Chapter 418: Another Demigod Tree
Chen Yu quickly realized he had picked up Count Bran’s crow mouth.
He had just been thinking this exploration trip was going much smoother than expected, when suddenly Oros ahead stopped, carefully observing his surroundings.
Chen Yu’s Divine Sense extended outward as well, and he too noticed something strange.
He spat out the Star Charts and checked them, discovering that several extra silver-threads had appeared in the originally empty void.
These silver-threads weren’t as neat and orderly as the routes marked on the Star Charts. They were twisted and interwoven, as if casually woven together by something, scattered across the star field ahead.
The Star Charts showed only six silver-threads, corresponding to six coordinates, each clear and distinct with no extra branches.
These extra silver-threads had no markings on the Star Charts at all, as if they had grown out of the void spontaneously.
Oros hovered in the void and gently touched the nearest unmarked silver-thread. A ripple spread where his fingertip met the thread.
He withdrew his hand and guessed, “It might be like I said before—other creatures or humans wandering nearby wove these silver-threads.”
“Although this star field is obscured, some creatures that have wandered the void for who knows how many years might still stumble in here.”
“There are humans in the Astral Realm?” Chen Yu asked curiously.
“Of course there are,” Oros replied without hesitation. “But not like what you’re thinking.”
“These humans are more like savage beasts compared to the humans of Zeyarila, no different from those Demi-humans living in the swamp wilderness.”
“Perhaps long, long ago, their ancestors came from a great Astral Realm city-state, or had some kind of ancient glorious past, but none of that matters anymore.”
“Long-term wandering in the void has caused them to completely lose their cultural heritage. Now the biggest difference between them and barbarians or bandits is that they’re stronger than ordinary humans and know how to weave silver-threads and make simple Star Charts.”
He bypassed a silver-thread, moved forward a distance with Chen Yu, and continued, “They usually hide in unknown Fissures and deep dreamscapes off the main routes, relying on hunting weak Astral Realm creatures to sustain their tribes.”
“Normally, they wouldn’t dare provoke a Legendary, let alone a Giant Dragon, but you’d better be careful. It’s said these humans have ooze on their menu.”
Chen Yu was speechless.
They could even eat ooze—these guys really weren’t picky eaters.
Since they ate ooze, there was no reason they wouldn’t prefer slimes, which were even tastier...
Thinking about it this way, slimes were really in danger in the Astral Realm.
The dragon and the slime chatted idly as they went deeper. The further they went, the denser those unmarked silver-threads became.
They extended from the void in all directions, converging toward the same point—which happened to be the sixth coordinate marked on the Star Charts.
Oros carefully observed the convergence direction of these silver-threads, his brow furrowing deeper. “The way these silver-threads are woven reminds me of some disgusting creature. I hope not.”
“Be careful, Your Majesty. There might be trouble ahead.”
Chen Yu wobbled his gel in acknowledgment.
Actually, he could see farther than Oros and had already noticed the anomaly deeper in.
When his Divine Sense extended toward the sixth coordinate, the deeper it went, the more it felt like sinking into an invisible quagmire. Every inch forward required several times more effort than before.
And he had this intuition that if he kept pushing his Divine Sense deeper, he might wake some slumbering existence.
He thought it over and decided to assume his strongest defensive form.
His gel bulged, black scales flipped out from the surface, dorsal spines arched along his spine one by one, and his dragon wings stirred up a turbulent ether current as they spread behind him.
In the blink of an eye, he transformed from a round blob of green jelly into a massive black dragon.
Honestly, he sometimes wanted to try mimicking other creatures, but the dragon form was just too convenient.
The physical and magical dual resistance of the black dragon’s scales was ridiculously high. With the enhancement from Magic Muscle on his physical body, he could even withstand Oros’ claw strikes and breath attacks head-on.
Most importantly, this form had stable power output. It wouldn’t send enemies flying everywhere like his gel body’s attacks, and he had claws to grab things. It was the perfect second form for a slime.
When Oros saw him in this black dragon form, his eyebrow twitched. He held it in for a few seconds but couldn’t help blurting out, “Can’t Your Majesty mimic some other type of dragon? A silver dragon, a gold dragon, anything would do.”
“If that’s too much, even a bronze dragon would be acceptable.”
Chen Yu helplessly shook his massive dragon head.
“I have the Bloodline of a black dragon. It’s easier to mimic this form. It’s not like I can just change the color and fool anyone.”
“Turning into a silver dragon would require restructuring the scales. Too troublesome, and the power would be lacking.”
Oros’ obsessive-compulsive disorder clearly wasn’t eased by this explanation. He muttered something under his breath. Chen Yu didn’t catch it all, but he vaguely heard something like “figure out a way” and “dye it silver.”
“What did you say?”
“Nothing. Let’s go. We need to hurry.” Oros shook his head, also revealing his massive silver dragon body.
One silver and one black dragon flew side by side, following the increasingly dense silver-threads into the depths of the void.
The closer they got to the sixth coordinate, the denser the silver-threads became. They could even see some silver cocoon-like objects floating in the void.
These cocoons varied in size. Some were as small as a fist, while others were big enough to hold a small mountain.
The surfaces of the cocoons were covered in fine silver threads that faintly glowed in the ether, pulsing like the breath of some creature.
Oros’ expression turned visibly disgusted. “Looks like I guessed right. What’s living here is either those disgusting astral matter spider swarms, or the larger, solitary Astral Realm spiders that prefer independent nests.”
“Either way, it’s troublesome.”
“They’re skilled at using silver-threads to glide through the void to catch prey. They have extremely high magic Resistance and can also suppress magic, controlling Force Fields in combat.”
“Your Majesty, prepare for battle.”
With a roar, he accelerated directly and dove toward the sixth coordinate.
Chen Yu could tell now. This old dragon especially hated two things: black dragons and spiders.
He didn’t know what grudges he had with these two creatures in his youth, but every time he encountered them, he had the momentum of not stopping until he’d destroyed them.
He flapped his wings and followed.
At the end of the sixth coordinate, a massive nebula wrapped in countless layers of silver-threads appeared.
The nebula had a translucent quality somewhere between a dream and reality, its edges slowly twisting in the ether.
Inside, he could faintly see a vast landmass and a weak light. The light seeped through the gaps in the silver-threads, making the nebula look like a giant piece of amber wrapped in spider silk.
“It’s in a dream Fissure. Charge!” Oros didn’t slow down and plunged headfirst into the nebula.
Chen Yu silently marveled at how bold this old dragon’s fighting style was. Relying on the protection of a dragon Deity, he charged recklessly through the Astral Realm, not hesitating to plunge his head into an unknown nebula.
Thank goodness he had a god watching over him. Otherwise, with this fighting style, he probably wouldn’t have lived to over a thousand years old.
Despite his complaints, he followed closely, tucking his dragon wings and sticking close to Oros’ wake as they plunged into the nebula.
The surrounding scene suddenly shifted.
It felt like passing through a water membrane. When their vision cleared, they found themselves hovering above a vast Underground World.
The ceiling of the Underground World stretched so high it was impossible to see the end, dotted with countless glowing crystal moss, casting a dark green light.
Looking down, the ground was covered with dense spider nests and spider eggs. In the translucent egg sacs, fist-sized larvae curled up, slowly wriggling.
Sensing the intruders, the egg sacs began to break open one after another. Larval spiders crawled out, spraying silver threads as they rapidly climbed along the ceiling and rock walls, surging toward the two dragons in the sky.
Chen Yu didn’t bother being polite to these little things. He raised his head, gathered power, and spat a stream of Acidic Breath at the ground.
The acid mixed with mana flames swept down, burning large patches of spider nests into a sea of fire. The larval spiders let out sharp hisses in the flames before turning to ash.
The silver threads curled and melted in the high heat. A large area of spider nests was instantly scorched into blackened flat ground.
Then he noticed something wrong.
The burned spider nests left no remains, as if they had been directly erased. Only empty ground remained. Even the moss scorched by the flames was slowly repairing itself.
As the illusion of the entire Underground World twisted, a massive, pitch-black figure silently emerged from the void.
Its body was even larger than Chen Yu’s current mimic dragon form. Eight legs covered in silver patterns slowly descended from the Darkness, each step shaking the ground.
It was an Astral Realm spider.
“Those spider eggs and the small spiders that just crawled out were all illusions. This one is real.”
Oros warned, simultaneously spouting a stream of Frost Breath.
The breath struck the spider. Frost rapidly spread across its body, as if trying to freeze it entirely.
But before the ice layer could fully cover it, the spider simply shuddered slightly. The frost cracked and fell off, shattering into ice shards on the ground.
Clearly, this was a Legendary-level Astral Realm spider.
The Astral Realm spider recognized the dragon identities of these two uninvited guests.
Not only did it not retreat, but it raised its head and let out a screech that shook the entire Underground World.
With that screech, countless massive rocks were forcibly torn from the ground and ceiling by its Force Field, wrapped in silver mana, and hurled at them.
Chen Yu shielded his front with his black dragon wings. The rocks struck his scales with dull thuds.
The physical damage from the rocks was nothing to him, no different from bumping into a few larger pieces of hail.
But the Force Field energy attached to the rocks penetrated the physical defense of his scales, directly affecting his gel body, causing some not-insignificant damage.
But honestly, that was about it.
Probably a bit stronger than Casaric, that Legendary demon warlock.
He was about to get serious and finish it off when the Astral Realm spider suddenly let out a huge screech, raised its abdomen high, and sprayed countless silver threads, weaving a sky-covering net in the air.
It looked like it was about to unleash a big move. Chen Yu braced himself to withstand it.
The next second, the Astral Realm spider turned around and bolted.
All eight legs pushed off at once, rapidly climbing between the rock walls of the Underground World at a speed that completely defied its size.
Chen Yu was stunned.
Well, well. Even spiders could bluff these days.
He and Oros didn’t hesitate. They chased after it, their dragon wings flapping rapidly in the cramped underground space.
This spider was indeed fast, and its familiarity with the terrain far surpassed theirs. But it underestimated the dragons’ pursuit ability.
With an acceleration burst, Chen Yu’s dragon claws directly pinned the spider’s back abdomen, tearing its entire body off the rock wall and slamming it to the ground.
Then he and Oros gave it a patient physical lesson.
After receiving an education of dragon claws and Acidic Breath, the spider tried to fight back, using silver threads to bind Chen Yu’s wings. But he easily broke free and got another round of physical instruction.
This Astral Realm spider finally submitted. It lay on the ground, all eight legs tucked against its body, not daring to move even its compound eyes, afraid any twitch might be mistaken for an attack and get it beaten again.
Chen Yu’s dragon body gradually shrank, returning to slime size as he floated in front of it.
The spider stared for a long moment at the black dragon that had been beating it up suddenly shrinking into a blob. Then it fearfully lowered its head.
A voice came through its mental energy, crisp like a little girl’s.
“Dragon, don’t kill me. I’ll be good.”
Chen Yu was curious. “You can speak the Common Tongue?”
The spider nodded gently, its feelers nervously scratching the ground. “I learned it from Elves a long time ago. They taught me a lot, including the Common Tongue and Astral Realm travel.”
Chen Yu floated a bit closer with interest. “Where did you come from, and how did you meet those Elves?”
The spider was silent for a moment, as if recalling something very distant. Then she spoke softly.
“When the Elves were wandering the Astral Realm with Lord Tree King, they found me in the void. I was very small then. My nest was destroyed by a void predator. All my siblings died.”
“The Elves brought me back to Lord Tree King’s palace. They taught me to speak, taught me to recognize silver-threads.”
Her tone grew even softer, transmitting a sad emotion through her mental energy.
“Later, the Elves died. Lord Tree King was also on the verge of passing. Sophie stayed here to protect Lord Tree King.”
“Lord Tree King says you carry the aura of kin. He welcomes your arrival.”
Chen Yu exchanged glances with Oros.
For a Legendary Astral Realm spider to call someone a Tree King... that creature couldn’t be simple.
Sophie directly answered their questions. She said seriously, “Lord Tree King told me to tell you he is a Demigod. He has Sophie lead you to see him.”
A Demigod...
Damn. He finally understood why even Oros couldn’t find this star field.
