Chapter 588: Reuniting You and Your Brother as Soon as Possible
"No!" Evelyn responded loudly, "I just... don’t know what book I should read!"
Caden Lockwood stood up, walked in front of Evelyn, and blocked her way. His tall figure cast a shadow that completely covered her.
It was as if she was just a small shadow beside him.
"Don’t hide anything from me." Caden’s tone carried an undeniable demand, "You must have something to tell me."
Listening to Caden’s confident words, Evelyn simply put back the book she had casually picked up, then looked at him steadily.
Caden’s eyes narrowed slightly, waiting for Evelyn to speak.
"Do you have... any news about my brother?" Evelyn tentatively asked.
Upon hearing this, a momentary flustered panic flashed through Caden’s eyes, but he quickly regained his calm.
It was rare for him to hear anything about her brother from Evelyn.
Suddenly, she asked, and earlier she seemed anxious—could it be that L had revealed something to Evelyn?
Unconsciously, Caden clenched his fists, reminding himself to stay calm.
If he was overthinking and Evelyn casually mentioned it, yet he acted too cautious, it would instead make her uneasy.
Thinking about this, Caden couldn’t help but ask, "Missing your brother?"
"Yes." Evelyn responded.
Immediately, she shared the lie she had long prepared: "When I was sleeping, I dreamed about my brother. Didn’t you promise to help me find him before? It’s been so long now, are there really no updates?"
When asking, Evelyn’s gaze remained fixed on Caden, unwilling to miss any subtle expression on his face.
When she asked earlier, she felt his expression was somewhat off.
But she couldn’t quite pinpoint what was wrong.
Right now, Evelyn felt Caden’s reaction was a bit too indifferent.
So indifferent, it unsettled her more.
"Are you blaming me for taking so long without finding your brother?" Caden asked, instinctively touching the tip of his nose.
Though lying wasn’t foreign to him, in business, a few falsehoods were inevitable.
However, facing Evelyn, each time he lied or hid something, he felt incredibly tense.
This woman’s gaze was too clear, as if it could peer into his heart, preventing him from confidently deceiving her.
"It’s not like that!" Evelyn hurriedly replied, "I just feel that with your capabilities, finding someone shouldn’t take so long without any news!"
Listening to Evelyn’s query, Caden awkwardly chuckled, unsure of how to respond.
The fact that L was Evelyn’s elder brother was something Caden temporarily didn’t want to reveal to her.
After all, the matters between him and L were not yet resolved.
But if he said he found absolutely no clues, even he wouldn’t believe it.
Seeing the hopeful expression in Evelyn’s eyes, Caden raised his hand and gently patted her head.
Opening his thin lips slightly, he softly said, "I did find a few clues, but since it’s been so many years, the search is difficult. So, give me a bit more time; I will find him and reunite you siblings."
"Alright!" Evelyn pouted, "It’s okay! I’m not rushing you! After all, you have your own matters to deal with; you can search when you have time!"
"I will try my best to be quick," Caden promised, "I won’t let you wait too long."
