Tears fell from Caden Lockwood’s eyes, one drop after another, onto Evelyn Morgan’s face, mixing with her blood, quickly disappearing.

"If you die, what am I supposed to do?" Caden held Evelyn tightly. "I still have so much to tell you, so many explanations left unsaid! How can you bear to leave? You haven’t even claimed your scholarship, you haven’t seen Cecilia Lynch’s wedding, you haven’t fulfilled your dreams yet! As long as you wake up, don’t die, I’ll promise you anything, even if it means getting a divorce... I..."

Caden clenched his fists, but the tearing pain couldn’t compare to the ache in his heart—it was hardly worth mentioning.

"I agree too." Caden uttered each word slowly, and the last shred of his remaining spirit extinguished in that moment.

It was like those precious lingering embers, filled with love and hope, were now extinguished, never to reignite.

Yet, even with Caden’s compromise, Evelyn gave no response.

She lay there, peacefully like an angel, asleep, as if she would never wake again.

Caden closed his eyes, holding Evelyn tightly, and tears flowed down her neck into her body.

"It’s my fault." Caden whispered in Evelyn’s ear, "Don’t be afraid, dear, I’ll come... to be with you soon."

Logan Shaw stood not far away, watching Caden holding Evelyn closely, his own heart felt empty too.

Evelyn... was she gone?

But, clearly, the IV was still attached to Evelyn’s hand!

The cardiac monitor also showed her heartbeat was steady.

Logan frowned and turned to Ashley Sutton, who was resting in the corner, coldly asked, "Did you deceive us?"

"Not at all!" Ashley smiled innocently, "The attending doctors are right beside us, if they operated on Evelyn, she wouldn’t have survived! That’s why they apologized to you, saying there was nothing they could do to save her."

"You!" Logan’s face darkened, impulsively wanting to throw Ashley out.

This woman was infuriating, effortlessly igniting people’s anger.

Listening to Logan and Ashley’s conversation, Caden understood something.

Caden slowly released Evelyn, looked at her with determination, then turned to Ashley.

He opened his mouth, wanting to speak, but no sound came out.

Ashley’s smile widened, she stretched lazily and casually said, "These so-called experts and chiefs in the hospital, how can they compare to our Sutton Family? Evelyn truly is fortunate! If I hadn’t been here, she would definitely have been gone!"

Then, Ashley added with a laugh, "You both said anything belonging to you two would belong to me, you better stick to your word!"

Listening to Ashley’s words, Caden awkwardly lifted his lips in a small smile.

Despite Ashley’s infuriating nature, Caden wasn’t angry, instead, he felt overwhelming gratitude and thankfulness.

Evelyn wasn’t dead?

Evelyn wasn’t dead!

That’s wonderful!

Only then did Caden notice the figures on the monitor, showing Evelyn was completely normal.

He chuckled to himself for panicking so much he hadn’t noticed anything.

Indeed, caring too much makes one confused!

"I knew, you’d be fine." Caden’s voice was full of joy as he embraced Evelyn again.
