Chapter 430: The Heaven-defying Green Liquid
The three grave robbers had no idea that in the short time they were out looking for food, they had picked up a tail.
"What did you all find?"
In a clearing beside a mountain stream, a man in his thirties with a scar on his face leaned against a large tree. Next to him, a paler-looking man was diligently massaging his shoulders. When he saw the three men return, the scar-faced man asked the question.
"Heh heh, Boss, we caught a few snow chickens. Look how big they are! We also found a bunch of wild fruit," one of the grave robbers said, trying to curry favor.
This scar-faced man was the leader of this band of grave robbers. He listened to the man, glanced at the snow chickens in his hands, and nodded in satisfaction. "All right, go get them cleaned up. When Hu Zi and the other one get back, we’ll have ourselves a feast today."
"Alright, Boss! We’ll get right on it." One of the grave robbers chuckled. "Hu Zi’s the best hunter. I wonder what kind of prize he’ll bring back for us this time."
"Hmph. You’re such a glutton."
"Heh heh, we’re on it, Boss."
The three grave robbers hurried to the nearby stream with the snow chickens and fruit. They exchanged knowing glances, shooting looks of disdain at the man beside Scarface. Sneers appeared on their faces in unison.
Su Qing sat on a branch not far away, her gaze shifting from the three robbers busy preparing the food to Scarface and the man beside him. She couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow. ’I’m not some naive little girl. I wasn’t born yesterday, you know.’
’So I could tell what that man’s deal was with a single glance.’ A cold sneer touched her lips. ’Spend enough time in the mountains, and even a pig starts to look pretty, I guess.’
Since it sounded like some people still hadn’t returned, Su Qing was in no hurry. She took out a few sticks of beef jerky and chewed on them as she waited.
After another ten minutes or so, two more men returned from a different direction. They were an impressive pair, leading an injured deer. Scarface was overjoyed at the sight. "Excellent, excellent!" he boomed with a laugh. "Well done, Hu Zi! We’ll slaughter it today and have ourselves a whole deer feast!"
"Yeah! The Boss is awesome!"
At Scarface’s words, the other grave robbers all whooped with excitement.
Su Qing’s brow furrowed as she listened to the grave robbers. She saw the injured sika deer’s glistening eyes, wide with panic and fear. With a cold snort, wisps of gray mist began to seep from her hands, rushing toward the men.
The grave robber about to kill the sika deer hadn’t even plunged his knife into its body before he was overcome by a wave of drowsiness and collapsed to the ground.
The other grave robbers were struck by a dizzy spell, fainting before they could even process what was happening. Scarface, however, managed to force out a single word: "Who—!"
Then, Scarface passed out too.
Of course, the sika deer was also affected by the gray mist and collapsed.
Seeing that everyone had collapsed, Su Qing finally climbed down from the tree. She ignored the grave robbers and went straight to the sika deer. This time, instead of the green mist, she dripped two drops of Green Liquid into the deer’s mouth. The Green Liquid’s main purpose was to repair nerves and eliminate foreign substances from the body, but Su Qing wasn’t sure how well it treated external injuries. Today, she intended to find out; this was an experiment.
The sika deer’s legs had been injured. There were two bone-deep gashes on its hind legs, a testament to the force used to inflict them. In addition, its body was covered in numerous other cuts, both large and small.
Then, Su Qing’s eyes slowly widened.
’This Green Liquid... it’s unbelievable!’
Before her very eyes, the many cuts on the sika deer’s body healed and vanished. The two bone-deep wounds on its hind legs were also closing at a rate visible to the naked eye. In just five or six minutes, even those gruesome gashes disappeared without a trace.
Su Qing stared at the sika deer, dumbfounded. She felt a wave of relief. ’Thank goodness I experimented on this deer today. If I had used the Green Liquid on a person later, its effects would have been a dead giveaway.’
Su Qing patted her chest in relief. ’Thank goodness, thank goodness.’
Su Qing then infused the sika deer with some of her green mist, and it soon regained consciousness.
Perhaps because Su Qing had infused it with the green mist, the sika deer showed no fear of her upon waking. Instead, it gazed at her gently with its large, limpid eyes.
Su Qing was completely won over by those big, innocent, doe-like eyes. She gently patted its head. "There now, you’re all better. You should go. Be more careful next time. Run and hide if you see people, or you’ll get hurt again."
The sika deer seemed to understand. It docilely stretched out its tongue to lick Su Qing’s hand before getting to its feet. After circling her twice, it vanished into the forest with a few graceful bounds.
Once the deer had left, Su Qing turned her attention to the grave robbers sprawled in disarray on the ground. With a light wave of her hand, the creeping vines on the forest floor shot up, binding the men tightly.
Then, Su Qing fashioned a whip from a vine and lashed it viciously at the men. ’These are traitors, selling their lives to the Japanese. I’m not about to waste my green mist on them. A whip will do just fine.’
"OW, OW!"
"AGH, IT HURTS LIKE HELL!"
...
A few cracks of Su Qing’s whip were all it took to jolt the men awake. Their bodies seared with a burning pain, and they began to cry out before they had even opened their eyes.
"Who are you?" Scarface’s body smarted from several lashes. He opened his eyes to see Su Qing swinging a vine whip with gusto. Seeing the whip arc toward him again, he scrambled to dodge, but failed. It struck him hard once more. Hissing in pain, he hastily asked, "We don’t have a grudge against you, do we?"
"Oh, you’re awake," Su Qing said, raising an eyebrow as if she had just noticed him. "You were sleeping so soundly, I thought I’d never be able to whip you awake."
Scarface choked with rage. ’I saw it perfectly clearly! That damn girl saw I was awake and whipped me anyway! She did it on purpose!’
"You... you did that on purpose!" Scarface sputtered.
"I did. You figured it out," Su Qing said, the corner of her mouth twitching. The whip in her hand lashed out at the other grave robbers.
"OW, OW! Miss, stop whipping us! We’re awake! We’re awake!"
