The familiar screen displayed the progress of the assimilation.

Takuya barely paid it any attention.

His eyes remained fixed on the Veemon standing before him.

The little dragon had just given away evolution data as if it were nothing.

Takuya couldn’t understand it.

Everything he had learned so far suggested that evolution was one of the most precious things a Digimon possessed.

So...

Why?

Veemon laughed after noticing his expression.

"Hahaha... You look surprised."

He waved one hand dismissively.

"Don’t worry. I’ll be fine."

"I offered myself for this."

He smiled with complete confidence.

"And besides..."

"I believe we’ll meet again. no, if thing go well for you, we sure will."

As soon as he finished speaking, Veemon walked toward the edge of the arena.

When he reached it, a familiar digital pattern formed around his body.

Streams of blue data enveloped him.

The light expanded until it was larger than the Digimon himself.

Then...

He evolved.

Veemon’s body stretched.

His limbs grew longer.

Wings sprouted from his back.

The armor changed completely.

Standing there now was ExVeemon.

Takuya stared in disbelief.

"...You could evolve on your own?"

ExVeemon chuckled.

"I never said I couldn’t."

He folded his arms before looking back at Takuya.

"Well, Takuya..."

"It seems your trial isn’t over yet."

A confident grin spread across his face.

"I’m sure we’ll meet again."

"But next time..."

His eyes narrowed playfully.

"Put up a better fight."

With those final words, ExVeemon jumped from the edge of the cliff.

Instead of falling, he spread his wings and soared into the sky.

Then, while still airborne, another evolution circle appeared around him.

His body transformed once again.

Moments later...

An AeroVeedramon flew across the blue sky before disappearing into the distance.

Takuya simply stood there.

Completely stunned.

"...From the very beginning..."

"...my chances of defeating him were practically zero."

He couldn’t help but laugh bitterly.

"I wonder if he even had a name... or if everyone just called him by his species."

Before he could think any further, the screen floating before him suddenly flickered.

The previous message vanished.

New words slowly appeared.

Requirements fulfilled.

The Human Spirit of Fire acknowledges you.

You have been invited into the Firewall.

"The... Firewall?"

Almost as if responding to his voice, something happened.

At the very center of the four volcanoes...

A colossal pillar of fire erupted into the sky.

It rose hundreds of meters high, piercing the heavens themselves.

Takuya instinctively understood.

That wasn’t the Firewall.

It was merely...

The entrance.

He immediately started walking.

The journey back felt much shorter this time.

There’s no way this is another trial...

That would just be cruel.

By the time he reached the pillar, he realized how enormous it truly was.

From afar, it had looked impressive.

Up close...

It was like standing before a skyscraper made entirely of living flames.

Heat rolled off it in endless waves.

"So..."

He let out a resigned sigh.

"I really have to walk into the giant wall of fire."

Taking a deep breath...

He stepped forward.

To his surprise...

It didn’t burn.

The flames felt warm.

Comfortable, even.

The instant he crossed the boundary, the outside world disappeared.

The volcanoes.

The sky.

The valley.

Everything vanished.

Only fire remained around him.

It does matter we’re he looked at, fire was at every where and it was the only thing he could see until in a moment the fire around him started to condense before Takuya, the fire started to take shape.

Takuya distinguish the shape of the figure quite well, it was the armor of agnimon, the data was turning into his armor, his mind and hearth raced.

Finally, finally the misión ended and he was about to evolve, and even. He made a friend? Along the way. the evolution was the friends along the way?

It was a pretty good outcome, finally when the rough shape of the armor was done, the details and everything started to condense, the only thing didnt appeared was the flesh part of agnimon. Just the armor.

After twenty or so minutes, Takuya begun to see the volcán again, all of the flames that formed the huge pillar condensed in one pristine armor.

And then, it transformed into data again striking against Takuya, it did hurt, on the contrary, however the boy felt kid of abrumated for the sheer cuantity of data entering his body.

Once the process ended, the screen lit up again.

Data complete 25gb assimilated in total...

Evolutive line ready....

Human host ready....

DigiCore stable...

All parameters clear....

Immediately, without wasting another second, Takuya initiated the evolution.

He had waited long enough.

The transformation was almost instantaneous.

Streams of data flickered around his body, wrapping him in countless lines of light.

He grew taller until he stood at roughly 180 centimeters.

Armor materialized piece by piece, covering his body.

Flames spiraled around him throughout the transformation.

His crimson hair turned brilliant blond, rising and flowing like living fire. At times, it no longer looked like hair at all—it looked as though his head itself were burning.

Takuya slowly flexed his fingers.

Then he threw a punch.

A kick.

He opened and closed his hands, watching flames dance effortlessly around his fists.

Everything felt...

Better.

Lighter.

Stronger.

Above all, he could feel the difference.

If he fought the Kings of the Volcanoes again...

He could defeat them without much difficulty.

And now...

He was confident he could give even Flaremon a proper fight.

Only after satisfying his curiosity did he summon the D-Scan again.

This time...

The status screen finally opened.

Still transformed, Takuya stared at the screen in disbelief. There were so many changes.

The first thing that caught his attention was his hunter rank.

It was split into two values.

Human Form: B Rank.

Agnimon Form: A Rank.

That meant his transformed state was literally an entire rank above his normal body.

That was insane.

Even without transforming, he was now around B Rank, already much stronger than he had been as Flamon. But once he evolved into Agnimon, his strength jumped another full rank.

That was... a lot.

There was more.

The D-Scan classified Agnimon as an Adult Digimon, but it also carried the labels Hybrid and Special, with an additional note identifying it as a High Adult / Low Perfect.

"So that’s what it meant..."

It confirmed everything he had suspected.

Agnimon wasn’t an ordinary Adult-level Digimon. It stood at the very top of that stage, bordering on the Perfect level.

He had definitely chosen the right evolution.

His Fire Synchronization had also reached 100%.

He could actually feel the difference.

The fire inside his DigiCore no longer felt like an external power. It was simply... part of him, as natural as moving an arm or taking a breath.

Then there was something new.

Gaia — 1%.

Takuya frowned.

He didn’t know much about Gaia. The only thing he could vaguely remember was that WarGreymon had an attack called Gaia Force, but he was fairly certain Gaia wasn’t simply another word for fire.

It had to be something else.

Some different type of elemental affinity, perhaps.

"I guess I’ll figure it out eventually..."

A grin slowly spread across his face.

"Finally..."

"I’m not complete cannon fodder anymore."

At least...

Not nearly as much.

With that thought, Takuya let himself fall backward onto the warm volcanic rock, smiling as he stared at the clear sky above.

For the first time since arriving in this strange world...

He felt genuinely stronger.

Then another thought crossed his mind.

The Digimon he had met during the trial...

They hadn’t behaved like mindless enemies or NPCs created for a test.

They had personalities.

Dreams.

Goals.

They spoke.

This wasn’t some artificial simulation created by the D-Scan.

This was...

The real Digital World.

And then there was Fladramon.

No...

Veemon or Ex-veemon.

He had said they would meet again.

At the time, Takuya had been too focused on surviving to think much about it.

But now...

If Veemon expected to see him again...

"Looks like I’ll be visiting this place again," Takuya muttered. "Probably once I have enough data for Vritramon."

Then another thought crossed his mind.

"What about the other DigiSpirits?"

At the very least, Vritramon was guaranteed. He would probably have to undergo another trial to obtain the Beast Spirit, and if he somehow managed to fuse both Spirits, he could eventually become Aldamon.

But if obtaining Agnimon alone had required all of this...

What kind of trials awaited the rest?

"Now that I think about it..."

Takuya scratched his cheek.

"Anime Takuya had it way too easy."

The Human Spirit of Fire had practically fallen into his hands.

The Beast Spirit wasn’t much harder to obtain, and even Vritramon—the supposedly uncontrollable Beast Spirit of Fire—had become usable after only a Chapter or two.

"...Lucky bastard."

Reality, unfortunately, wasn’t nearly as generous.

As he finished thinking, a small notification appeared at the corner of his vision.

Curious, he opened it.

A countdown.

Time until return to the Human World.

"So I don’t even get a choice this time..."

Apparently, the D-Scan had decided his trial was over.

He wondered if it had somehow noticed his desire to stay longer.

"...Just what is happening in the Digital World?"

Before he could think further, another realization struck him.

He was still transformed into Agnimon.

"...Yeah, that’s not happening."

It wasn’t because he wanted to hide his power.

The reason was much simpler.

He looked like a powerful monster.

If he suddenly appeared in the middle of a city looking like this, every nearby Hunter would probably assume a Gate had produced a new magical beast.

"That sounds like a pain."

Without hesitation, he canceled the transformation, returning to his normal teenage appearance.

The countdown reached zero.

A portal swallowed him whole.

At almost the exact same moment...

Back in the Human World.

The Hunters from Takuya’s raid were desperately trying to explain what had happened to the officials from the Hunters Association.

"I’m telling you, the kid was swallowed by another portal!" one of them insisted.

"Then it disappeared!"

Several Association employees exchanged skeptical looks.

A second Gate suddenly appearing inside another Gate?

It sounded ridiculous.

Just as one of them was about to dismiss the story—

A portal ripped open beside them.

"...!"

Everyone turned.

An instant later, Takuya shot out of it like a cannonball.

"WHAAAAAA—!"

CRASH!!

He slammed straight into a news van parked nearby, crumpling the entire side of the vehicle before bouncing onto the pavement.

Silence.

Every Hunter.

Every Association employee.

Every reporter.

All of them stared at the smoking wreck.

Then, one of the Hunters who had been arguing with the Association slowly raised a finger and pointed at Takuya.

"...See?" he said with a smug grin.

"I told you I wasn’t lying."
