Chapter 23: School life is shit, literally.
It had been a week since Takuya officially joined the Hunters Guild.
The people there were surprisingly friendly, though he still hadn’t participated in any of the main raids. First, they wanted him to coordinate with the rest of the team, so he had been assigned as one of the frontliners alongside Cha Hae-In.
For the past week, they had focused almost exclusively on building teamwork. Takuya was positioned directly in front of the Guild Master during training because he could withstand Choi Jong-In’s flames and keep fighting as if nothing had happened. If they managed to polish their coordination—using Agnimon’s fire resistance as a shield while Choi unleashed his full firepower—the Guild Master believed there was even a chance they could eventually clear an S-Rank Gate together.
Takuya, however, seriously doubted that.
He knew exactly what was waiting inside one those gates.
The TEMU Meruem would wipe the floor with the entire guild.
There was absolutely no way he was stepping into an S-Rank Gate.
At one point during the week, when the Guild Master once again brought up the possibility of future S-Rank raids, Takuya couldn’t stop himself from muttering,
"The heck am I doing walking into TEMU Meruem’s territory?"
Of course, he meant it as a joke.
The Guild Master simply dismissed it as another strange meme from the younger generation.
"I really don’t understand kids these days..." he sighed.
Throughout the week, Takuya sparred against Cha Hae-In several times. The S-Rank hunter corrected his movements, refined his footwork, and taught him how to better read an opponent during close combat.
During one session, she made an observation that stayed with him.
"Your combat instincts are terrifying," she admitted. "It’s like you had decades of fighting experience"
Takuya almost laughed.
She wasn’t entirely wrong.
Agnimon had literally done exactly that.
Thankfully, he managed to keep that little detail to himself.
Barely.
His mouth had an annoying habit of almost revealing things it definitely shouldn’t.
Still, hunting wasn’t his entire life.
He continued attending school whenever he had time. Officially, it was because he wanted to keep up with his education.
Unofficially...
He mostly went to spend time with Jinah at school and Jinwoo afterschool.
Naturally, he had already told them he joined the Hunters Guild, which had become quite the topic of conversation.
At one point, Jinwoo even asked,
"Are you sure you still have time to come here? You’re in one of the biggest guilds in the country now. Shouldn’t you be busy?"
Takuya’s answer had been simple.
"There’s always time for friends."
It wasn’t a lie, he had only two after all.
However, there was another reason he had started spending more time at school.
A feeling.
Nothing more than a hunch.
But it was enough.
A few days earlier, Jinah had casually mentioned that something strange had been happening with the school’s nlights. Every now and then, the computers and electronic devices would suddenly glitch or shut down for no apparent reason. like a haunted house.
That single sentence sent chills down Takuya’s spine.
He immediately began investigating.
His first thought was simple.
If someone else from Japan had somehow arrived here the same way he had—someone connected to Digimon—there might be clues.
He searched through student records, names, rumors...
Nothing.
No suspicious names.
No strange transfer students.
No one that fit the pattern.
Neither the electronic devices reacted to someone.
That ruled out his first theory.
Even so, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong.
Remembering that a Gate had originally appeared at a school in Solo Leveling, his paranoia only grew.
So he started observing everything.
He noted every reported glitch, recording the exact time and location. He listened whenever teachers mentioned electrical failures, casually asking questions whenever he had the chance.
Days passed.
Every lead ended in nothing.
The glitches were real.
But they didn’t seem to be caused by him...
Or by anyone else.
They happened completely at random.
Still...
Takuya couldn’t shake the feeling that something was happening beneath the surface.
And more than anything...
He hoped it was nothing more than a simple glitch.
but until now his hopes, well were crushed constatly for the reality.
And just to be safe, Takuya decided to spend more time at school, completely separating his two lives.
The Guild Master hadn’t objected, so for now it wasn’t an issue. Besides, it would only last a week.
That day, during his usual patrol around the school, Takuya walked through the halls with the D-Scan in his hand, hoping it would react to something. It had become a habit recently. Carrying it around didn’t hurt anyone, and if anything unusual happened, he wanted to know immediately.
Eventually, he wandered into the school’s small theater.
Yes.
The school actually had its own movie theater.
The room was empty. There was only a single computer connected to the internet, and since no one else was around, Takuya decided to make himself comfortable. He picked a random movie, projected it onto the giant screen, and sat back in one of the seats.
Even then, he couldn’t shake the uneasiness that had been lingering ever since he discovered his powers.
He knew just how absurdly powerful Digimon could become.
And if he could cross into the Digital World...
What guaranteed that Digimon couldn’t cross into the Human World?
To Hunters, they would probably just look like another type of magical beast.
But Takuya knew the difference.
Technically, they were monsters.
The most obvious distinction was that when they died, their bodies dissolved into data instead of leaving behind corpses.
Then there was Veemon.
Yes, he had been friendly.
But another thought kept creeping into Takuya’s mind.
Veemon had volunteered to oversee his trial.
More importantly
That Digimon hadn’t looked...
Or acted...
Like an ordinary Veemon.
"...Aaah... so many questions and so few answers," Takuya muttered.
Still, if anything strange was going to happen...
This school was probably where it would begin.
After all, the first anomaly had started here.
Him.
For the moment, though, nothing happened.
Classes were still in session, while Takuya had skipped his own.
Fortunately, his class was Physical Education, so no one would really miss him.
With nothing else to do, he continued searching the campus one more time.
Nothing.
Absolutely noth—
The lights across the entire school flickered, stronger than the other times he hadn’t seeing it.
Once.
Twice.
Then everything went still.
Takuya immediately stood up and looked around.
A second later...
A girl’s scream echoed through the building.
Without hesitating, he sprinted toward it.
Truthfully, he had been on edge all day.
He raced through the corridors until he reached the girls’ restroom, where the scream had come from.
The first thing he saw was a familiar face.
It was one of his classmates.
She was sitting on the floor, staring toward the far side of the bathroom with wide, terrified eyes.
Without thinking, Takuya rushed inside and positioned himself in front of her, ready to transform at a moment’s notice.
Yet...
He couldn’t sense any magical power.
No hostile mana.
No threatening presence.
He relaxed ever so slightly.
At least he wasn’t facing something overwhelmingly dangerous.
Then he turned to look in the direction the girl was staring.
Something soft struck him squarely on the forehead.
...It was pink.
...Warm.
...And it smelled absolutely horrible.
Slowly...
Very slowly...
Takuya looked down.
Standing a few meters away was a small green creature.
It was short.
Round.
Pathetic-looking.
For weeks, Takuya had prepared himself for the possibility that a Digimon might cross into the Human World.
He had imagined Tyrannomon.
Maybe Meramon.
Even Greymon.
He had been ready for a desperate battle.
Instead...
Standing before him was an adult digimon with the power of a Rookie
A slug.
A Numemon.
...
And if the creature before him was a Numemon...
Then the thing currently stuck to his forehead was...
Pink poop.
It had literally thrown poop at him.
For a long second, Takuya simply stood there in silence.
Then, with the expression of someone whose expectations had been completely shattered, only one thought crossed his mind.
...Maybe my classmates were right.
School life really was shit.
Quite literally.
"Fuuuuuuck!"
For the first time since arriving in this world, Takuya genuinely yelled in anger.
The Numemon giggled before turning to run away.
However, the moment it did, flames erupted around Takuya’s head. His entire forehead burst into fire as he instantly hurled a fireball.
The projectile struck the Numemon head-on.
The Digimon exploded instantly.
Its body dissolved into countless particles of data, while the disgusting mess it had thrown onto Takuya’s face burned away into ash and digital particles.
Even so...
Takuya immediately rushed to the sink and began washing his face.
The girl from his class, who had witnessed everything, was still shaking.
Despite that, she looked visibly relieved.
She knew Takuya was a Hunter, and after seeing him effortlessly kill the monster, she finally felt safe.
Then Takuya turned toward her.
"Please..." he said with a completely blank expression while staring into the bathroom mirror. "You can tell everyone about the monster. Tell them everything that happened."
He paused.
"But please... don’t tell anyone I ended up with shit all over my face."
"I-I..."
The girl looked incredibly conflicted.
Then she quietly admitted,
"...I was doing a livestream."
"..."
A livestream?
Wait...
A livestream?
Like... live?
The kind people watch online?
The kind that goes viral?
...Me?
A single tear slowly rolled down Takuya’s cheek.
...
His social life was over.
Before he could process that tragedy any further, something caught the corner of his eye.
Movement.
Then more movement.
And then...
The bathroom practically exploded with activity.
It wasn’t just one Numemon.
It was dozens of them.
At least fifty.
They all scrambled toward the exit at once.
Without even transforming, Takuya snapped his hand forward.
A fireball shot across the room, engulfing the front of the swarm.
At least ten Numemon disappeared in a single explosion.
The rest scattered into the hallway.
Takuya could have eliminated every last one of them.
But he didn’t.
They were only Numemon.
Pathetically weak Digimon.
They couldn’t seriously threaten the students.
If he used too much force inside the school, he would end up causing more damage than the Digimon themselves.
He rushed out of the bathroom and began firing smaller, carefully controlled fireballs.
One after another.
Each shot accurately struck another fleeing Numemon.
Several tried to retaliate by throwing... their usual disgusting projectiles.
Takuya sidestepped them with visible disgust before blasting more of the Digimon apart.
Within seconds, around forty of the original fifty had already been eliminated.
The remaining few managed to scatter throughout the school.
Takuya immediately returned to the bathroom.
Looking around carefully, his eyes landed on something hidden behind the damaged plumbing.
A portal.
Not a Dungeon Gate.
The D-Scan reacted instantly.
Y / N
Without hesitating, Takuya selected Yes.
The gateway immediately began collapsing.
"..."
That confirmed his greatest fear.
Digimon could cross into this world.
Which meant this wouldn’t be the last incident.
Now...
He had to hunt down the remaining pranksters before they caused any more trouble.
"I just hope..." Takuya muttered as he looked down the empty hallway.
"...those were the only Digimon that came out of the Digital World."
