Chapter 1231 - 1199: Lifesaving Straw
Chapter 1199: Straw to Save a Life
The Curved Saber and the spike were tightly entangled. This was a unique feature Yelu crafted when forging this spike. If the opponent overly relies on their weapon and wants to vie for time with their arms, they will only be ensnared by the spike, like a magnet gripping the opponent’s weapon tightly. However, for someone with absolute confidence who doesn’t overly depend on their weapon, the spike’s special effect is completely useless.
Right after Xiao Lin swung his arm to attack, Miller, holding the Curved Saber, was completely exposed. His right foot, which had been poised to strike for a long time, suddenly attacked, slicing through the air with remnants aimed fiercely at Miller’s lower abdomen. The force of this impact swept across the arena, knocking down those closest, sending them flying and crashing onto the ground. The wails echoed through the crowd, while those who weren’t hit were frozen in place by Xiao Lin’s immense power and speed.
Boom! Miller, unable to dodge in time, suffered severe damage. Intense pain spread from his abdomen throughout his entire body. After a brief pause, he was sent flying backwards.
Before Miller could rise from his thunderous fall, Xiao Lin coldly shouted and leapt in the air, his feet kicking forward at lightning speed in a series of heavy, ferocious kicks, all landing on Miller’s chest.
With each fierce kick from Xiao Lin, Miller let out a deep groan, retreating step by step. At the moment the series of kicks ended, Xiao Lin, like a nimble cat, leapt onto Miller’s broad shoulder, crouching slightly downwards.
Furious and frightened, Miller suppressed the blood surging upwards, his foot slamming into the stone pillar behind him to forcibly stop his backward motion, his wide hand slapping fiercely towards Xiao Lin on his shoulder.
But Xiao Lin, already poised like a drawn bow, shot upwards into the air, executing a rapid three hundred and sixty-degree spin. His powerful right leg struck down with an unparalleled force, slashing towards Miller’s neck at a speed and angle that was terrifying, seemingly a lethal blow.
Miller was utterly enraged, his head bloodshot as he threw the Curved Saber away, his wide-open eyes like brass rings, fixating intently on Xiao Lin shooting down diagonally like a cannonball.
Boom! Crack!
Just as Xiao Lin dove down, Miller swiftly retreated to one side, grabbing a random person to shield in front of him. The chilling sound of cracking bones reverberated, causing those present to shudder.
The thug used as a human shield had his ribs shattered by Xiao Lin’s fierce stomp, brutally impaled into his own heart, dying on the spot.
Everyone was too shocked to scream, as Miller watched Xiao Lin in sheer terror, his discarded Curved Saber lying quietly on the ground. Xiao Lin glanced at the corpse with a light hum.
Silence! The entire manor was eerily quiet. The thugs surrounded the two people, glancing between Miller and Xiao Lin. Whether due to Miller’s shamelessness or Xiao Lin’s intimidating prowess, they all felt like helpless gazelles stalked by a hungry wolf, a feeling akin to being caressed by the Grim Reaper, nearly suffocating them. Coldly watching Miller, Xiao Lin was their Grim Reaper, ready to summon them like he did to the person earlier.
One step! Two steps! Xiao Lin’s gentle footsteps shattered the frozen air, as Miller let out a bizarre cry, rushing toward his Curved Saber, intent on a final desperate struggle. But Xiao Lin did not intend to give him that last chance; he leapt swiftly into the air, arriving in front of Miller, kicking his face, sending Miller’s body flying back.
The roar abruptly stopped. Before Miller could land, Xiao Lin accelerated again, clawing his hands over Miller’s head, smashing it hard against his rising knee.
Crack! The chilling sound of bones breaking echoed again; Miller’s fingers barely touched his Curved Saber, his body only twitching a few times before collapsing to the ground, silent.
Xiao Lin stared at the bloodied and mangled face for a long time, then wielded the spike towards the remaining twenty or so people. "Is anyone else ready to come up and die?"
Miller is dead, an even more terrifying death than the shadow length. Xiao Lin saw no one dared to advance, and indifferently scraped the long spike on the corpse several times, wiping off the flesh and blood droplets. When everyone thought he would let them off, Xiao Lin suddenly darted forward, instantly appearing before someone with the icy spike pressed against their neck. The spike owner was so close you could see his facial pores; as a man, Xiao Lin’s pores were so fine as to be almost invisible.
"If you don’t want to die, tell me where the woman they captured is being held."
"I, I don’t know!"
Thud! The spike unhesitatingly pierced his artery and pulled out forcefully, bringing out a spray of blood. Xiao Lin turned to another person.
"Without the answer I seek, you’ll end up like the person earlier."
"W-we really don’t know anything!"
"Is that so!"
Thud, thud, thud! Several more people are sent down the path to Hades, and those remaining can almost hear themselves swallowing, not knowing who will find Xiao Lin in front of them next. When they try to flee, they find themselves unable to move at all.
"There are ten of you left. I’ll ask just one question. If none of you speak, you all die." The spike in his right hand has already been stained red with blood, mixed from different people, dripping down the spike. "I’ll count to three. If no one speaks, you can’t blame me for being ruthless."
One! Two! Three! Just as Xiao Lin counts to three, someone cries out without knowing who it is, the sobbing shout making the thin air feel sorrowful.
"Third floor, on the third floor!"
"Move!" Xiao Lin flips himself over towards the third floor of the main building, while the people guarding the annex have already disappeared. Xiao Lin pays no mind to them at all.
Xia Xue quietly watches as Robert enters. The windows in the room are nailed shut with wooden boards, blocking out even the slightest hint of light. On such a night, the room is pitch black. When Xia Xue is the only one staying in the house, this is a place where even a lamp is absent, so dark that you can’t see your own hand.
When first locked in here, Xia Xue was terrified. This place feels like a sealed box, with stifling air and stifled breaths. Time here seems to have stopped, leaving only her alone, only her own voice, only her own breathing. Staying here long enough, in such a dark room, terrifying hallucinations arise. From the moment she entered, the room has been filled with a strange fragrance, pleasant to smell but making one sleepy. Over time, a person becomes lethargic, drifting aimlessly throughout the day, sometimes hallucinations occurring in her mind coming into vision.
A sliver of light pierces the darkness, shining directly on her face. The door opens in front of her, a person enters, his face blurry. Is this another hallucination? Xia Xue wonders.
"Little beauty, did you sleep well? Your hero has come to rescue you, aren’t you happy?" Robert lifts a flashlight, the only source of light striking Xia Xue’s face so harshly that she must raise her hand to shield her eyes, her head heavy and longing for sleep.
"Ah, it seems you’re not that happy, but even if you don’t want to, you still need to meet your hero. I’m humane; after killing so many of my people, I’ll just give him a final meal before he dies." With this, two people walk out from behind Robert, each one taking an arm and dragging Xia Xue out.
Xia Xue, just like a doll, doesn’t struggle at all. Her pretty face is adorned with a pair of grey, blank yet beautiful eyes.
"Boss, what do we do with this woman..."
"Don’t worry about it. Take her out first, then we’ll see." Robert also notices something different about Xia Xue. He didn’t expect the incense given by Lord Si would be so potent.
Fresh air suddenly rushes into her nostrils, making Xia Xue instinctively sneeze. She blinks her heavy eyelids, her mind becoming much clearer. Looking around, she finds herself being carried upward by two people, and she begins to struggle, trying to break free of their grip.
Apparently not expecting Xia Xue to struggle, one of them is thrown off by her sudden brute strength, but quickly steps forward to pull her back. One arm of the other hand feels a sharp pain, and when Xia Xue is grabbed back, she bites down on the wrist of the other person. The one in pain reverses his hand, using the gun’s hilt to strike Xia Xue’s head. The boss said to take her away, but he didn’t specify how or that she couldn’t be harmed.
The gun’s hilt strikes her forehead, instantly causing it to break open. Xia Xue lets out a cry, her struggling intensifying. Annoyed, the man raises the gun’s hilt to strike her again, when suddenly a large figure bursts out from the corner.
Without even seeing what’s happening, the man knocked to the ground pulls the trigger in panic as the sound of gunfire rings out.
Robert, following behind, hesitates for a moment, and so does Xiao Lin, who has just darted into the main building!
Bang, bang, bang! More sounds echo from the third floor. Xiao Lin leaps from the railing between the first and second floors, flipping up to the landing between the second and third floors. With no foothold further up, he decides to take the stairs.
The gunfire comes from the man’s terrified, blind shooting. He can’t see what’s there, only feeling something sharp tearing at his body. The other person, however, sees clearly, his eyes wide. One hand still clutches tightly onto Xia Xue, as if she’s a lifeline, a lifeline promising survival as long as he clings tight.
"Crow!" When the bullet fires, Xia Xue screams, fearfully watching the crow that crashed onto the ground. The man’s screams are shrill and dreadful, accompanied by gnawing sounds as chunks of flesh splatter around. (To be continued.
