Chapter 1187 - 1155: Black Street
Chapter 1155 Black Street
"That’s right, Rex, the point I want everyone to pay attention to is this."
"I understand, Robert. Come to my study at nine tomorrow morning. Today’s meeting ends here. Everyone except those on the list can leave!"
The dinner was lavish. Nicholas sat at the head, sipping red wine and eating steak. The choice fillet and aged wine seemed like a pistol placed on the plate in front of everyone, making the food tasteless.
While looking over the information Robert submitted, Nicholas suddenly raised his head with a puzzled look in his eyes. "Has my chef’s skill deteriorated?"
"Godfather..."
"Talk after eating. I don’t want to lose my appetite facing a bloody scene." Nicholas spoke coldly. In the list submitted by Robert were the names of Casab, Augusto, and two clan leaders. He gently placed the knife and fork down, and the slight sound of impact made everyone put down their hands.
"I’m giving you a chance now!" Looking at these people, Nicholas placed his clenched fists on the table. "Throw up everything you’ve eaten. If there’s even a little bit missing, I’ll kill someone from your clan as a substitute. Those who can’t make up for it, await their clan’s annihilation."
Everyone understood the implication of annihilation. While they were still immersed in this layer of fear, Nicholas spoke again. "Everyone, how was Robert’s performance today?"
"He deserves to die!" Everyone replied in unison, filled with extreme anger and hatred.
"Two days later, I want to see our Mafia’s treasury replenished. If you feel discontent, you can come to me two days later. I look forward to your decision."
Nicholas left the dining room calmly. What Robert said still impacted him. Xiao Lin’s return from the storm wasn’t a good thing for all of Palermo. Robert’s boldness at today’s meeting also hinted that those orchestrating behind him began further actions. The tie in the rubber band, where he found himself, could snap at any moment. This was the final warning Robert communicated from his backers to the Mafia Godfather!
Meisai angrily stormed out of the security bureau. Today was his day off, and he had promised to take Tang to a newly organized electronics expo. However, all his good mood was overshadowed by a layer of gloom, but more so by anger. He felt he had been toyed with by Xiao Lin, blindsided by the security bureau people. Despite being in different departments of the same system, he, on the front line, always had to pay for the mistakes made by those who only gestured from behind. Mistakes were due to police inefficiency; successes were due to everyone’s cooperation.
Damn it! Holding the steering wheel, Meisai dropped Tang off at Caesar Street and drove straight to Sin City, rudely barging into the ’Rhine’ building.
Standing at the fanfare-laden entrance, he took deep breaths, trying to suppress his anger. He didn’t believe Xiao Lin was someone who would manipulate him, yet... opening his painfully brown eyes, he knocked on the door.
"Sir!" On the third knock, Meisai created enough noise that a young girl frowned at him. "Sorry, this is still an office area. Could you please keep it down?"
Perhaps aware of his loss of composure, Meisai blushed slightly. "I apologize, but is Mr. Xiao here?"
"Mr. Xiao?" The girl, with an innocent look, stared at Meisai. Clearly, she hadn’t heard of the name.
"Ah! Never mind." Just as Meisai was about to give up, his phone emitted a cute ringtone, and the girl covered her mouth, giggling.
Rushing all the way to the underground garage, a sharp braking sound stopped in front of him as soon as he stepped out of the elevator. "Get in!" Meisai hesitated for a moment but got into the car. Before he could fasten his seatbelt, the car swiftly sped out of the underground garage.
Sitting in the car, Meisai felt the driver was driving like a maniac, eyes with pitch-black pupils focusing solely on the road ahead, not uttering a word. His inner fury somehow was suppressed, though they remained within Sin City’s territory, seemingly heading into its depths.
"Meisai, you almost scared all the staff at ’Rhine’ today. A police chief bursting into a ten-floor office area, frantically banging on a private lounge door. You looked awful." Xiao Lin slowed down the car after it passed through a tunnel. "What could make a gentleman like you lose your manners?"
"You’re a liar!"
"A liar?" Xiao Lin savored the word with amusement, letting out a scornful laugh. "Can I know why?"
"Do you know where I came from?"
"I’m not so bored as to stalk and surveil just anyone." Clearly, Xiao Lin’s mood today wasn’t great either. When Meisai rushed up to the tenth floor, someone had already reported the director’s frenzied actions to him, but he hadn’t expected the first thing he’d hear would be that he was a liar.
"I thought the matter with Troy is over!"
"Indeed, it is over. Is there a problem?" Xiao Lin glanced at Meisai, the unextinguishable anger still evident in his eyes. "Is that why you rushed here so rudely?"
"Young Master Xiao, if you plan any actions next time, please notify me beforehand. At least let me be prepared so I won’t be helpless in front of those bastards."
"Meisai, I will say it again, you’ve got the wrong person."
The car stopped in front of a wide street. There were no commercial facilities or residential areas around; the place seemed somewhat remote but not desolate. Meisai wanted to continue the previous topic, but Xiao Lin had already jumped out of the car. "I’m taking you to meet two people."
This place was the legendary Black Street, known throughout the Sicilian underworld. Meisai had never thought he would step onto this street one day. The people in legitimate circles wouldn’t even touch this place, and nobody in the underworld wanted to enter either. Black Street was ruled by the Black Doctor, and nine out of ten who came here were seeking treatment at the price set by the Black Doctor. No sensible person would want to be here otherwise.
"Is this Black Street?" Xiao Lin nodded.
Black Street was about four to five meters long. Through the long street, tall trees had now been planted on both sides, merging with the urban layout outside. But if you looked carefully, you could still spot dark posts hidden under the dense rows of trees. Only by passing through this avenue of greenery could one truly enter Black Street.
A plaza! A three-story building with three doors! Two connected single-story houses! A small artificial garden!
Meisai particularly noticed the small garden, roughly about fifteen square meters, where poppies were planted! "Not all poppies are used to refine heroin. If used in the right amounts, they can temporarily replace anesthetics. For an unlicensed doctor, obtaining anesthetics might not be an easy task!" Xiao Lin explained the doubt he saw in Meisai’s eyes.
Suddenly, a gray shadow flashed before them. In an instant, Meisai saw Xiao Lin lift off the ground, making several agile movements before landing on the round plaza in front, looking a bit stunned by the scene.
One person and one wolf, it looked like they were in a standoff. The wolf’s howling pierced his heart, what was this?
"I didn’t expect Xiao Lin to bring you here." Yelu Shou stood behind Meisai, looking at the two figures in the plaza, feeling a bit helpless. "They won’t back off for a while. You’d better come in with me."
"That’s the Mongolian Wolf, right!" Meisai pointed at the large animal in the field, his voice trembling slightly.
"Director Meisai, haven’t you heard about it in Palermo?"
"There are rumors, but seeing it in person is another thing."
"Crow, it’s not an ordinary wolf!" Yelu Shou didn’t explain further, instead clapping Meisai on the shoulder, signaling him to follow into the three-story building behind them.
From the layout of the building, it looked like a villa. Half of the hall was filled with various equipment, while the other half seemed like a living room. Meisai followed Yelu Shou to the second floor, where the arrangement was much simpler. Beyond the stairway was a reception area, while the rest consisted of rooms and a kitchen. Up above might be the resting area, Meisai thought, but Yelu Shou didn’t go up any further. He turned past the reception area and entered the back part of the building. Passing through a glass partition, the view suddenly opened up. As a designer, he had to admire such a clever design, as if stepping from a city into a paradise, truly an extraordinary place.
"Quite remarkable, right!" Yelu Shou continued forward. Behind the glass partition was a very small sky garden, with all vegetation cultivated through pipelines, giving a defying feeling yet neatly organized, clean, and full of the fresh scent of grass. Suddenly, Meisai remembered the conversation between Xiao Lin and Xia Xue, easily locating the table piled with test tubes.
"Can you tell me who the designer here is?"
"The one who just brought you here." Meisai’s eyes flickered, saying nothing more. Only after passing through the sky garden did they truly enter the workspace. From the outside, the interior area seemed much larger than imagined.
"In the room on your left is the only survivor of the car accident, and on your right is Mr. Su, a drug lord from the Golden Triangle." Yelu Shou stood at the second reception area on the second floor, with an electronic door before them. "Director Meisai, which one are you more interested in?"
"Just by mentioning an object of interest, will you let me see them?"
"Yes!" (To be continued. If you like this work, you are welcome to vote for recommendations or monthly tickets on Qidian (qidian.com). Your support is my greatest motivation.)
