The huge sound of the door being knocked open made Shao Weihua look towards the entrance in horror. When he saw it was his own people, he finally laughed, as if completely drained. His lifted shoulders collapsed instantly, and those pointing guns at him seemed utterly indifferent to the intruders, as if they were just part of the air.

"Who’s there!" Two henchmen were the first to enter, but Wang Zhanting, who intended to enter first, hesitated for a moment before retreating to the last position. One held a machete, while the other fired a bullet immediately.

Bam! Bam! The bullets didn’t hit the body but pierced through the wall instead, and the second sound came from a different caliber gun, relatively more muffled.

The first one to attack was shot back and collided with companions behind him, causing several people to fall simultaneously. The gun was still smoking as the assassin, facing Shao Weihua, only exposed his eyes full of disdain beneath the mask. The smoking gun barrel seemed to convey it wasn’t joking, angled towards Shao Weihua’s groin.

The shift from joy to fear was too swift for him to process, and he heard the third gunshot at that moment.

Ahh! A scream sharper than any woman’s echoed along with the gunshot, as Shao Weihua half-closed his eyes, unsure if he was dead. The gunshots seemed to linger eternally in his ears.

Mmm! He started moaning; feeling the weight on his body, he slightly opened an eye, seeing a blurred figure slumped over him.

"Zhanting?" The appearance of Wang Zhanting, who suddenly materialized amidst the attack, shocked him more.

Wang Zhanting turned his head towards Shao Weihua and forced a smile, struggling to protect Shao Weihua. Just then, more armed men rushed in, the gunfire drew many people, and the assassin, seeing the crowd, didn’t linger but turned and entered the bathroom, disappearing from the window within a blink.

It was the fourth floor! The people rushed to the window and looked down; there was no sight of the assassin, gone faster than a rabbit.

Blood flowed from Wang Zhanting’s abdomen, momentarily stunning Shao Weihua, who then shouted for his men to take the injured Wang Zhanting to a hospital. The front of the club became chaotic, like ants on a hot pan, scattering everywhere.

Having jumped from the fourth floor, the assassin didn’t flee but instead got into a nearby parked car, removing his mask, watching the scene coldly.

His phone rang timely. Hua Qingyi deliberately curled his lips, staring at the flashing screen until the ringtone nearly faded, then answered with a magnetic voice.

The other side complained for a long time, and Hua Qingyi chuckled softly. "Alright, alright, let me make a splash. Everything’s going as predicted; Shao Weihua is taking Wang Zhanting to the hospital now. Yeah, yeah, I’ll be back soon. Wait for me for breakfast; I’m starving."

After hanging up, Hua Qingyi found the surroundings had quieted considerably, and the club unusually closed early.

Palermo’s hospitals are many, but only a few are of rank. Even without following, one could guess where Shao Weihua would head.

Standing by the operating room, Shao Weihua rubbed his hands anxiously. Fortunately, after more than an hour, the surgery light went out, the lead surgeon came out, and Wang Zhanting was wheeled into a ward, allowing him to breathe a sigh of relief.

Left alone in the hospital corridor, the previous unresolved fear seized him again. Just then, someone approached, catching his attention.

"Dear Godfather, what a coincidence. I didn’t expect to meet you here again." Nicholas, hurrying by, was stopped by Shao Weihua, who raised an eyebrow, watching him silently. He hadn’t seen him in a while, wondering how the man was still alive, which was his truest thought.

"Ah, Mr. Shao, such a coincidence. How have you been lately?" Out of courtesy, Nicholas showed a slight smile. "And what brings you here?"

Nicholas, sharp-eyed, noticed the abrasions on Shao Weihua and appeared suspicious. "Ah, encountered an assassin. Fortunately, someone took a bullet for me, so I survived."

Coincidence? Or perhaps it was Nicholas’s doing; Shao Weihua pondered deeply, wondering about the man’s sudden presence at the hospital after him.

"Ah, that’s terribly dangerous. Any idea who it was?"

"Not yet, but I’ll find out. I hope the Godfather will fully support me."

"Indeed, easy to say. If Mr. Shao needs anything from me, just ask. Although our previous deals were always hindered by unexpected events, I’m very grateful you’ve entrusted your fiancée to me. For that, I ought to help you."

"Ah, haha! But it’s late; what brings the Godfather to the hospital? Are you unwell?"

"Oh, Augusto woke up, so I hurried over." Nicholas blinked his blue eyes, his golden hair gently floating with the motion. "Does Mr. Shao have any suspects in mind now?"

"I suspect it might be related to whoever killed Robert!"

"You mean? Xiao Lin!" Nicholas feigned surprise. "Mr. Shao, one mustn’t suspect without reason. You know the Murong Family is very sensitive about Young Master Xiao’s matters now. If such words get out, life could be hard. The Murong Family, with just a flick of the finger, could ruin your business prospects here."

"Hahaha, didn’t expect the great Mafia Godfather to be afraid of a woman."

"It’s not fear, it’s wisdom. We value evidence. But speaking of which, Robert’s act of kidnapping someone’s woman was disgraceful, as a Godfather, I’m embarrassed to face Young Master Xiao!"

Shao Weihua looked deeply at Nicholas, said nothing, and retreated to the back, making way. Nicholas, undeterred, passed by with his back remaining to the man. Though he could feel the sharp eyes from behind, he smiled, knowing it’s wise to move with the times. Given the current situation, siding with this person wouldn’t yield much profit, and partnering with such conceited people would only tarnish his reputation. (To be continued.
