Chapter 1145: Life and Death Choice

"What a joke!" Yelv shouted in the storm and had already leapt forward to shield Xiao Lin before his counterattack.

Steel Claw unleashed dozens of silver threads that intercepted the Assassin Group like meteors in the darkness, forming a primary defense to thwart the path of two people. Meanwhile, Yelv braced himself against the storm, his body launching with a bent right leg rapidly towards the assassin on the left.

The initially straight lines of advance were divided by Yelv’s sudden appearance. The assassin whose companion was under attack didn’t spare a glance but continued to sprint forward following his path, while the other, with left hand forward and right fist clenched, deflected Yelv’s attack and swung aggressively at his midsection.

The speed was swift, and the force was fierce, leaving Yelv, who was charging downward, unable to dodge. The foot he used to block hadn’t yet recoiled with strength, Steel Claw flicked lightly, shooting five independent claws at the assassin’s chest, arms, and thighs.

Just as Yelv launched his attack, another figure had reached behind Xiao Lin, and in the moment of stealth, Xiao Lin unexpectedly turned, evading the assassin behind him with only a slight foot shuffle.

"Is this what you want?" Xiao Lin, facing away from the assassin, didn’t feel any danger in the swift gale. The assailant’s attack position was always off-target, not aimed at the body’s weak points, so Xiao Lin refrained from counterattacking while dodging.

Weighing the ’Black Gold Staff’ in his hand, Xiao Lin smiled as he noticed the assassin’s pupils contract slightly upon seeing the staff. "You should know this thing wasn’t yours to begin with. Since I’ve killed its owner, shouldn’t his weapon rightfully be mine?"

As soon as he finished speaking, the assassin surged again toward the item in Xiao Lin’s hand. Through these exchanges, Xiao Lin discovered a common pattern: these individuals all possessed a certain level of speed. Whether this was a criteria for the Dan Clan selecting assassins was unknown, but even if they weren’t part of the Assassin Group, such speed was still breathtaking.

Utilizing a bizarre footwork, Xiao Lin evaded his attack, continuously staying by his side with an element of teasing.

"I’ll give you a choice, take this and leave, leaving your companion behind, or stay with your companion on this island."

’Staying’ meant death, Xiao Lin’s implication was clear. The assassin stopped, his stealthy glance at his companion did not escape Xiao Lin’s notice. "I’m giving you a chance to live, go back and tell your boss that their debt with him, I’ll shoulder it alone." he said, pointing with the staff toward the entangled Yelv. "In a month, I’ll personally visit the northeast to meet the Dan Clan, and our grievances will be settled then. Can you decide?"

The ’Black Gold Staff’ lay right in front of the assassin, and the choice was one-time-only—leave with news or remain on the island like his companion, a corpse.

The assassin hesitated, then grabbed the ’Black Gold Staff,’ while Xiao Lin’s left hand had already gathered invisible force, ready to strike at any moment.

Trust isn’t impulsive, for the person before him, a change of mind was always possible.

The assassin clutched the ’Black Gold Staff,’ taking one last look at his seemingly dominant companion, then glancing at the storm above swiftly charged toward the cliff on the right, disappearing into the jungle in the blink of an eye.

Xiao Lin didn’t care how this person left the island during such a storm, just as he was indifferent to how they arrived, but abandoning a companion and fleeing like that was truly unsightly.

Thunder and lightning roared in the distance, while Yelv’s excited roar echoed amidst the storm, the two men drenched to the core by the rain. Seeing Yelv, exhilarated, stripping off his shirt, bare-chested, fists slamming between Steel Claw’s imprints, Xiao Lin quickly moved to Lao Jiu’s side, crouching down to inspect his wounds.

His cold hand rested on Lao Jiu’s forehead, while the other held his pulse, beating fast and irregularly, sometimes with signs of stopping. "How long have you been like this?" Xiao Lin asked solemnly.

"Looks pretty bad, doesn’t it?"

Xiao Lin nodded. The wounds had caused complications, now compounded by the harsh weather, Lao Jiu might not last until their battle concluded.

"No problem, still holding on, but if you don’t get over there, that guy might go before me."

Without looking back, Xiao Lin used two fingers to rapidly press several major acupuncture points on Lao Jiu. He lifted him swiftly towards an outcrop of reefs and placed him inside. Though it still couldn’t completely block the storm’s assault, it at least provided some shelter from the rain. "I’ve blocked your acupoints, but this can’t make you better. What you must do now is stay conscious. Once you fall asleep, even I can’t save you, do you understand?"

Lao Jiu, whether moved or otherwise, nodded, sniffing. "Go ahead! I don’t want to lose a guy to verbally spar with me."

Xiao Lin laughed softly. He was not unconcerned about Ye Lu Shou behind him. He deliberately chose the weakest person to let go, leaving all the crises to Ye Lu Shou to buy time. He simply believed Ye Lu Shou would hold on until he joined.

Ye Lu Shou watched Xiao Lin’s every move with the corner of his eye, while Lao Jiu temporarily hid safely among the rocks. The storm showed no signs of weakening; instead, it intensified. The fierce wind speed repeatedly threw off the aim of effective attacks, playing on the edges to hit home runs. Ye Lu Shou was not adept at this type of play, while the assassin, whose speed was his forte, handled it with ease. He continually adjusted his angle and position due to the changes in nature’s wind speed and direction, blending with the storm, drifting everywhere.

"Damn it, I refuse to believe I can’t hit your edge!" Ye Lu Shou shouted loudly, seemingly annoyed by the passive situation, swinging Steel Claw toward the assassin.

"Full of flaws!" The assassin snorted coldly, retreating with his eyes shining. "I am Liu Yi. Remember the name of the one who kills you before you die. You can seek revenge in your next life."

Ye Lu Shou raised his eyebrows. "I won’t die, damn it!"

Smack... Crack...

The flawed attack was utterly smashed by Liu Yi’s iron fist’s howling wind, easily crushing it like squishing a bug. Ye Lu Shou’s body was sent flying.

Ultimately, his power was too single-dimensional. In a special environment such strength had no room to be displayed. Ye Lu Shou did not blame this guy named Liu Yi; he only blamed himself for his failure.

"Leave the rest to me!" At some point, a warm stream pressed against his soaked back. Instead of colliding with any hard object behind him, he was firmly caught and brought to the ground by Xiao Lin.

"Someone said if you die, there will be no one to argue with him!" Xiao Lin did not glance at Liu Yi and led Ye Lu Shou into the rock area. "I, Xiao Lin, cannot leave ’Darkness’ and ’Underground City.’"

Ye Lu Shou cracked a smile, but when he saw the glint in Lao Jiu’s eyes nearby, he was taken aback, quickly letting out a cold snort.

"What’s wrong, crying?"

"Get lost, whose eyes saw me crying? Don’t you know it’s raining now!"

Xiao Lin walked step by step into the battle circle, indeed greeted by the roars of two people behind him. It really felt good; with Ye Lu Shou here, Lao Jiu wouldn’t feel bored.

"Your name is Liu Yi?" Xiao Lin stood face to face with Liu Yi, seeming like he heard an assassin group member offer their name for the first time. "My name is Xiao Lin, remember my name, seek revenge in your next life."

Xiao Lin returned Liu Yi’s words to Ye Lu Shou intact.

"You’re too arrogant!" Liu Yi roared, extremely confident in his own strength, swinging the black robe wrapped around him to reveal inside purple-gold edged clothing, looking of a very high status. He held a sword in hand.

Clang! Sparks flew! The sword abruptly halted as Liu Yi’s long sword, essentially an exotic weapon, was unyieldingly blocked by Xiao Lin’s spike.

"Not everyone can be arrogant."

After blasting Liu Yi back, Xiao Lin, thrilled, pursued rapidly. Yet... just as he once again vibrating the spike toward Liu Yi’s chest, a fiercely cold purple gleam suddenly expanded in his vision, targeting his chest, throat, and forehead. His face turned pale, Xiao Lin forcefully withdrew his spike and spun out, leaping directly onto a rock.

However, even with his extraordinarily swift reaction, the darting purple light still sliced across his shoulder, though without harming his body; the fluttering fragments of clothing brought out a cold sweat.

Stabilizing himself, Xiao Lin focused his gaze, witnessing a purple figure slip past like a Night Eagle, gripping his neck and flying up. Several leaps later, they appeared on the rock where Xiao Lin stood, just ten steps away, outlined in Xiao Lin’s vision, it was Liu Yi.

Two people? Conjoined twins? Many bizarre terms emerged in Xiao Lin’s mind, failing to explain the Liu Yi standing before him. Yet now, he only saw one person—two feet, one head, two hands. But the purple shadow he saw moments ago was undeniably real, and launched an attack on him.

No matter what that is, it might be this guy’s source of confidence. The Dan Clan indeed mystifying to an incomprehensible extent. The ’Black Gold Staff’ earlier had already astonished him, and now this bizarre scene appears. If truly becoming an opponent on Quan Xianglin’s side, it would indeed require significant effort to deal with. (To be continued.
