Chapter 1221 - 1189: Clash by Force (2)
Chapter 1189: Forced Fight (2)
Receiving the plea for help from Murong Lengyue, Yelü Shou merely sat on the sofa as the lights around him flickered on. Recently, the nights had been unusually swift, and no matter who won or lost on the long street, it wouldn’t affect the others. This was absolute trust in his companions, believing they could handle their matters well.
"Are you just going to ignore it like this? Young Master Wu, he..." After meeting Yelü Shou’s gaze, Murong Lengyue found herself unable to continue.
Yelü Shou curled a corner of his mouth. Perhaps he wasn’t the best fighter among them, but he was certainly the most cunning and the deepest of heart. Of course, this was towards outsiders; towards his own people, he was immensely loyal. Birds of a feather flock together, after all!
"It’s not over until it’s over. Do you believe your subordinates can defeat us? Or do you think your wit can triumph over Xiao Lin?"
"What do you mean?"
"The world is nothing but lies intertwined, playing out the drama of life and death. People like us have no grand goals, but people like you live to surpass existing goals." Murong Lengyue felt a chill watching Yelü Shou. He seemed unapproachable yet made people feel he was a good person. "We are not the same kind of people. I am not as easygoing as Xiao Lin, nor as kind-hearted."
Another roar erupted, interrupting their conversation. Yelü Shou gazed out the window, his eyes fixed on the distance. At this moment, no one knew what he was contemplating. If Xiao Lin was someone who knew everything but kept it to himself, then this man only said what he wanted to, possibly knowing much more than Xiao Lin. For one who ruled the dark, acquiring information was no challenge, yet he never revealed everything. Xiao Lin, on the other hand, would trust such people, which she couldn’t fathom. If it were her, she would never keep such a person around.
From afar, the roars seemed to create a trembling magnetic field centered around two people, causing everyone to involuntarily freeze and listen intently.
Facing the skyward roar, Hua Qingyi, with his left elbow still bleeding, for the first time felt regret and fear deep in his heart. He never thought the young master of the Hua family would be that strong, nor had he given any heed to the people around Xiao Lin. To him, the only strong opponent he faced was Xiao Lin. But now, he regretted his arrogance.
After the roar, Hua Qingyi moved, tautening his entire right leg like an arrow, penetrating the air with a piercing sound, even swifter and fiercer by threefold than before.
In a panic, Young Master Wu gathered all his energy into his arms, trying desperately to block the terrifying kick. Boom... Young Master Wu didn’t even have time to scream as his whole body skidded along the ground, leaving a bloodstained trail and shattering the stone surface as it went.
Just as his body came to a stop, Hua Qingyi’s standing position left afterimages, and in the blink of an eye, he stood in front of Young Master Wu, his hands suddenly clawing at the blood-vomiting Young Master Wu.
Young Master Wu’s eyes widened in shock, his brain halting. Clearly, he had seen the Grim Reaper’s sinister grin, his bewildered eyes filled with despair and fear.
However... the Grim Reaper did not fully present himself. Hua Qingyi’s Reaper’s Claw halted abruptly just one centimeter from Young Master Wu’s heart.
Young Master Wu couldn’t help but focus on Hua Qingyi’s blood-dripping claws. Staring for a few seconds, enduring the ripping pain throughout his body, he strained to move twenty centimeters to the right, desperately trying to evade those fearsome claws that brought him such dread of death.
"Why don’t you kill me?"
"There’s no reason to kill you." Hua Qingyi shifted his hands, realizing that using claw techniques wasn’t fit for him. Looking at his blood-stained fingers with disdain, he pursed his lips. "Go on now, prisoner."
Having lost the previous arrogance, Young Master Wu, who narrowly escaped death, followed behind Hua Qingyi with a heavy body. "Will you really not harm the lady?"
Hua Qingyi placed his hands at the back of his head. "If I say I will, what can you do to me?"
"You..." Young Master Wu wanted to lift his right arm but suddenly realized it was immobile. He turned his head woodenly, surprised to find a red-haired young man he seemed to recognize standing on his right side.
"Ambush!" Lao Jiu waved the paper fan in his hand, shouting at Hua Qingyi. "You were too careless. Haven’t I told you not to show the enemy mercy? If you have the chance to kill, don’t leave him half-alive, or you’ll get yourself killed."
"Why did you become so verbose after coming out of the ’Dungeon’? You’re so annoying." Hua Qingyi continued forward without looking back.
"Are you Lao Jiu?"
"Young Master Wu, you’re lucky you’re not one of my dungeon people; otherwise, you’d have no chance to live." Lao Jiu lifted Young Master Wu, seemingly annoyed at his slow pace, hoisting him over his shoulder to catch up with Hua Qingyi ahead.
Night had entirely descended; their backs almost swallowed by darkness, as if the enormous mouth of an endless black hole was waiting for the ensnared to enter. Around the circular square, people were sporadically entangled in combat, the sound of clashing metals occasionally ringing out, every three steps a lamp would ignite. Beyond the light was deeper darkness, hiding unknowns behind that layer of black.
Young Master Wu was tossed to the ground, and two people came to escort him into a low-roofed house on the side. Hua Qingyi followed in, while Lao Jiu looked up troubled at the third floor where Yelü Shou stood at the floor-to-ceiling window, gazing down at him.
"Ah, what a pain!" Lao Jiu muttered, scratching his hair before rushing up the stairs.
"Ah, I thought you’d try to escape!" Hearing the footsteps, Yelü Shou, arms crossed, leaned against the wall.
Lao Jiu leaped up from where he stood and purposefully pushed Yelü Shou to the ground, venting his frustration before stretching himself across the sofa, not bothering to glance at Murong Lengyue sitting nearby.
"Alright! Qing Yi should be here after getting bandaged up."
"Tonight will be a hard one."
"Sitting here waiting to die, why not just go with me?"
"Hm, not a bad idea. You should try it. If you come back alive, we might imitate it next time." The two jested with each other, completely dismissing the woman beside them. (To be continued. If you like this work, feel free to vote for it on Qidian, your support is my greatest motivation.)
