Chapter 1244 - 1213: Dan Clan Assassin One

’Wagangnai’ also began to wake slowly as the sunlight shone upon the earth. Today was no different from any other day. The people living here were busy with their livelihoods from dawn till dusk. Without labor, there was no food, a rule that remained unchanged no matter where one lived.

Dan Ning, with a look of surprise and excitement, caressed the treasure in his hands. Beside him stood several identical people, giving off a chilling aura at first glance. Carefully, he placed a small, short-handled shield-like cold weapon into a large wooden box, which contained many oddly shaped items, mostly firearms and ammunition.

"Ran into Xiao Lin?" Dan Ning seemed reluctant to part with the items in the box, giving them a longing look before closing it and leaving the dark room. The secret door on the wall silently shut, transforming into a decorative wall. The seam cleverly doubled as an unusual bookshelf, making it difficult to discern its true nature.

One of the four people waved his hand. The other three placed a bottle on the table and left. Dan Ning glanced at him and sat down on the sofa in front of the bookshelf, appearing neither arrogant nor submissive.

The Dan Clan was a mysterious large clan. Like other families, they had a detailed internal division of labor to ensure better management. However, this meticulous arrangement had its drawbacks, as it inevitably led to internal conflicts, a common issue for all families.

The Assassin Group served as protectors within the Dan Clan, with the sole purpose of safeguarding their Clan Leader. Their role was delicate, as they were the most intimate with the Clan Leader but also held the least real power within the family.

The Assassin Group consisted of twelve members. Even within the Dan Clan, few knew how they came to be or how they operated. These twelve individuals seemingly appeared from thin air, each possessing mysterious skills. Since they all looked identical, distinguishing between them was nearly impossible from appearance alone; only during combat could one discern slight differences.

Fingers tapped the tabletop, one hand propping up a head as they tilted their gaze at the person in front. "Liu Yi, although I’m grateful your Assassin Group did something they might never do in a lifetime for me, I know it wasn’t on my behalf, but rather at the Clan Leader’s request. Still, there’s something I don’t understand."

The person called Liu Yi stood before Dan Ning like someone who didn’t know how to breathe, seemingly frozen, making it hard for Dan Ning to even sense his breathing. Perhaps accustomed to talking to himself, whether there was a response didn’t seem to matter much.

"You and Xiao Lin, oh no, I should ask, what exactly is your relationship with the Xiao Family? Even if I’m not heavily involved with the Dan Clan, I’m still one of them. Setting aside everything else, what exactly did Yi use to persuade you, the head of the Assassin Group, to step in? Ah, but Xiao Lin truly is capable, forcing you to use a decoy to escape. The Liu Yi on the Deserted Island died quite miserably."

"This is Fourth Master’s bone. Her blood has been completely removed, and that manor has turned into ashes."

Dan Ning picked up the bottle on the table. Without mention, the yellow powder inside would be hard to associate with human bones. "What use do I have for such a thing? Or do you think I have such a fetish? Only you twisted members of the Assassin Group would have such needs!"

The expressionless face revealed no emotion. "Ah, you still haven’t answered my question. What exactly is your relationship with the Xiao Family? Since you’re staying here, I don’t want to be with someone who has secrets. In our line of work, those who hide in the shadows with malicious intent are the most feared."

"Keep this. You will thank me one day."

Kicking and screaming wouldn’t make them talk. Liu Yi left without concern, while what troubled Dan Ning most was the items hidden behind his secret wall. If you’re set to kill, why pocket things along the way? They should’ve perished with the manor in the flames, making it a dilemma of indecision with valuable items but nowhere to sell them, causing restless impatience.

Dan Ning sighed helplessly. At such a critical moment, who would dare take this risky inventory, a hot potato that’s impossible to shed or swallow.

With a start, Dong Province jumped up from the chair. The Assassin Group couldn’t possibly be so kind-hearted. He dashed out, colliding with his subordinate head-on. "Is Liu Yi still in this house?"

"Who?" His subordinate stared at him, bewildered.

"Ah, the people from the Assassin Group, are they still in this house?" He really was too much. How could his subordinates know the names of those in power?

"I just saw them heading down to the second floor. They seemed to be leaving."

The second floor? This is the fourth floor. Descending one level at a time won’t be in time. Dan Ning pushed past his subordinate, sliding down to the third floor, jumped out the window, landing just as the Assassin Group was leaving through the door, rolling to steady himself.

The sudden descent of someone startled others, but the four members of the group acted as if they were detached from everything, showing no reaction whatsoever.

Dan Ning stood up, looking somewhat disheveled from his downward slide. He chuckled, dusting himself off while reaching toward Liu Yi, who was walking at the front.

Lightly moving aside to avoid the reaching hand, the lack of support sent Dan Ning crashing down. He couldn’t help but curse, sitting on the ground indignantly. In ’Wagangnai,’ who would dare speak up? He wouldn’t believe it.

Raising his head, he met Liu Yi’s downward gaze. Today his mood seemed decent, at least not leaving with a flick of the wrist. "Speak, name your terms!"

Liu Yi bypassed Dan Ning, who grabbed him in one swift motion. "There should be a limit to your arrogance. After all, I’m the one providing for you."

Dan Ning’s words, or for whatever reason, caused Liu Yi to stop and turn to him. "Weren’t you once determined to kill Xiao Lin? Why now accept Dan Qing’s request to help him? Because you know that whatever method he uses, he cannot kill that monster, so you indulge in this triviality, is it?" Dan Ning shook the bottle in his hand. "When did the Assassin Group start going back on their word, Liu Yi? What exactly are you? Your terms?" (To be continued.
