Chapter 311: House Of Seven Claims More Victims.
Kael wanted it to be that by the time the Guild expanded, its name would already be familiar to many of the people who mattered.
Of course, he knew whether everything went according to plan would depend on how successful the auction turned out to be. But with preparations nearly complete, he was quite optimistic.
And now, after several days of dealing with all those matters, he’d finally received another piece of good news.
His Spectre X Nano Armor had been repaired.
He’d gotten word that morning in a message from the Spectre Guild, requesting that he come by in person if possible.
Apparently, during the repair process, their technicians had stumbled upon something unexpected, a discovery that had led to several additional upgrades being made to the equipment.
The message didn’t go into much detail about the improvements, but it stated that the changes had been completed successfully.
They were now inviting him to visit the Guild and personally inspect the upgraded armor.
Kael couldn’t help smiling.
"Finally."
He had been waiting for this.
Although he possessed numerous powerful abilities, the Spectre X Nano Armor remained one of his most useful pieces of equipment.
Its defensive capabilities, mobility enhancements, and various integrated functions had proven valuable on more than one occasion.
Naturally, he’d been rather disappointed when it needed repairs. So now, not only had the armor been restored, but it had apparently received a few extra improvements too, something certainly worth looking forward to.
Kael glanced at the time. There was still plenty of daylight left, and since he’d already wrapped up most of the urgent matters requiring his attention, he saw no reason to put off the visit.
"Well, might as well go check it out."
With that, Kael stood up and began getting dressed.
He changed into a comfortable set of clothes suitable for going out before making sure he had everything he needed.
Kael glanced at the time. There was still plenty of daylight left, and since he’d already wrapped up most of the urgent matters requiring his attention, he saw no reason to put off the visit.
Once he was ready, he left his bedroom and headed downstairs.
As he approached the living room, a familiar sound reached his ears, the overly dramatic dialogue of a television show he’d unfortunately become all too familiar with.
Kael’s expression immediately changed as he stepped into the room. And sure enough, there they were, Lyra, Ezra, and his mother, sitting together on the sofa, eyes completely glued to the screen.
On the screen, another dramatic scene from House of Seven was currently playing.
Kael stared at them.
"..."
He couldn’t believe it.
His mother too?
He had already accepted that Lyra was obsessed with that ridiculous show.
And after spending enough time around her, Ezra had apparently developed the same unfortunate interest.
But now even his mother had joined them.
Kael shook his head.
That girl has corrupted everyone.
He couldn’t understand what they found so fascinating about the show.
From the little he had seen, it seemed to consist almost entirely of exaggerated arguments, unnecessary misunderstandings, and people making the worst possible decisions at every opportunity.
Yet somehow, Lyra could sit through episode after episode without getting bored.
And now she had apparently recruited two more victims.
Kael looked toward the sofa again.
Lyra was leaning forward slightly, watching the television with an expression of intense concentration.
Ezra sat beside her, looking equally invested in whatever was happening on the screen.
Even Hannah, who Kael had expected to be the sensible one, was watching with obvious interest.
The three of them were so absorbed in the show that they hadn’t even noticed him entering the room.
Kael sighed.
"Well, I’m heading out for a while, girls."
"Okay."
"Sure."
"Take care."
The responses came almost immediately, but not a single one of them turned to look at him. Their eyes stayed glued to the television.
Kael stared at them for another moment.
"...Seriously?"
Unfortunately, nobody seemed to hear him, or perhaps they did and simply didn’t think his complaint was worth interrupting the show for, either way, he wasn’t getting a shred of attention from any of them.
Kael could only shake his head helplessly.
Unbelievable, truly unbelievable.
Still, seeing the three of them curled up together like that brought a faint smile to his face. And even if he couldn’t quite understand their taste in entertainment, he couldn’t deny that the sight alone was enough to make him happy.
He lingered there a moment longer, watching them, before quietly turning away.
"Well, have fun, I guess."
As expected, nobody responded, but Kael chuckled quietly to himself anyway and left the living room behind him. A short while later, he stepped outside the house and made his way toward the garage.
After entering, he walked over to his motorcycle and gave it a quick once-over before climbing onto the seat and starting the engine.
Vroom!
The familiar roar of the engine filled the garage as Kael adjusted his position, gripped the handlebars firmly, and guided the motorcycle toward the exit. Once outside, he twisted the throttle and accelerated down the road.
The motorcycle shot forward, quickly leaving the house behind as Kael merged onto the road, his destination the Second District, or more specifically, the headquarters of the Spectre Guild.
The engine roared steadily as he carved his way through traffic, the city blurring past on either side.
A little over an hour later, the familiar outline of the Spectre Guild’s headquarters finally rose in the distance.
"There it is."
Kael eased off the throttle, slowing his motorcycle as he approached the massive building, then guided it toward the designated parking area and brought it to a smooth stop.
After switching off the engine, he climbed down and briefly straightened his clothes.
