Chapter 69: Not a trap
He quickly shook the disturbing thought from his head, a cold wave of hatred surging back into his chest as he glared at Leon’s approaching figure.
He gritted his teeth tightly, thinking to himself, ’Nah, I’d rather he just walk away forever and die!’
The idea of his rejected, pathetic brother coming back into their lives was entirely unpalatable, and he wished nothing more than for Leon to vanish off the face of the earth so that the family’s legacy would belong to him alone.
If Leon indeed wanted to return to the family, then Yeon was sure he would easily take all their father’s attention away from Yeon and direct it entirely towards himself.
Teon Allistar was a man who only cared about raw power and utility, and Leon’s sudden, miraculous growth into an unstoppable monster would make him the ultimate trophy in their father’s eyes.
Yeon knew that all his hard work, loyalty, and flawless service would be instantly overshadowed by the mysterious, god-like potential his twin brother now possessed.
Yeon certainly didn’t want this terrifying nightmare to become a reality, but he couldn’t even voice out his complaints to anyone around him.
He was completely bound by his father’s strict, absolute command, knowing that disobeying the guildmaster’s orders would bring severe punishment down on his own head.
He had to keep his burning jealousy and resentment locked deep inside his chest, while forced to play the role of the dutiful, welcoming brother.
The heavy glass doors slid open automatically, allowing both brothers and the tense guard detail to step into the cool, air-conditioned interior of the massive building.
The heavy silence between the twins persisted, creating an suffocating atmosphere that followed them across the entrance threshold.
Leon’s eyes widened slightly as he stepped fully inside.
His sharp, black eyes swept across the polished marble floors, the towering digital displays lining the walls, and the high security checkpoints guarding the elevator banks.
The headquarters didn’t look very different from what he remembered from his childhood days before his exile.
Standing in the middle of the room brought back a sudden rush of familiar memories, reminding him of the brief time he had walked these halls as a young, hopeful child before his F-rank talent ruined everything.
The reception of the guild was extraordinarily large, built to accommodate hundreds of hunters and corporate clients at once, but it was surprisingly scanty at the moment.
There were far fewer players than he remembered moving around the spacious floor, with only a handful of guild members present in the main hall.
The vast, empty space made the grand architecture feel strangely desolate, amplifying the quiet echo of their footsteps as they walked across the floor.
They all froze in place the exact moment Leon walked into the lobby, their bodies trembling violently as if they had just seen a terrifying ghost walk straight through the front doors.
The guild members dropped whatever documents they were holding, instantly locking their eyes on his familiar, dark-haired figure, who they recognised as the rogue player killer in those videos.
They were all still deeply on edge from the sudden, unbelievable announcement Teon had decided to drop out of nowhere just moments ago.
The public broadcast had thrown the entire organization into a state of panic and confusion, leaving the staff completely unsure of how to react to the news of the abandoned son’s newfound power.
They doubted an hour had even passed since Teon dropped that explosive nationwide announcement on the city screens, and Leon was already standing directly in the center of their main headquarters.
Yeon was the most annoyed out of all of them standing in the grand reception hall, his sharp eyebrows twitching uncontrollably in irritation as he stared at Leon.
’This isn’t a dream... I’m really standing side by side in the guild with this pathetic loser!’ he thought.
For an entire year, he had reveled in the reality that Leon was rotting away in the filthy, forgotten slums of the country.
To now be forced to walk shoulder-to-shoulder with him inside the very heart of the Roaring Lions felt like a surreal, sickening twist of fate that he was completely unprepared to accept.
He felt like killing Leon right at that exact moment, his fingers twitching violently as a dark impulse urged him to tear his brother apart.
But he forcefully held back, knowing that he would be dead at Teon’s hands if he tried that.
Still, everything felt like a terrifying nightmare playing out directly in front of him, twisting his reality into something he could barely stomach.
Leon chuckled softly, taking in the suffocating tension of the room as he casually glanced around at the surrounding players.
The moment his sharp, black eyes swept across their faces, every single player flinched and pulled back in terror, utterly terrified that the he might snap and kill them.
Leon found their pathetic reactions deeply amusing, realizing that the very people who used to look down on him with utter contempt were now cowering in fear at his mere presence.
Surprisingly, this whole situation didn’t feel like a trap at all, which was what further confused him.
"Where is he? Didn’t you say... father had an explanation for me?" he said, turning towards Yeon.
Yeon forced a stiff, unnatural smile onto his face, his lips trembling slightly as he strained to maintain his fake composure under Leon’s piercing gaze.
He swallowed the bitter rage in his throat and said in a tight, controlled voice, "Of course..."
He gestured toward the far end of the grand reception hall, preparing to lead his brother toward the private elevator banks that led straight to the executive floor.
Before they could take another step forward, Teon suddenly walked into the room from another grand door situated directly opposite Leon.
The massive double doors swung open smoothly, and the imposing S-rank stepped onto the polished marble, his commanding presence immediately filling the vast space with a suffocating pressure.
A chubby woman walked in right behind him, keeping a respectful distance of two paces as she followed the guildmaster into the room.
She had long, flowing blonde hair that fell smoothly over her shoulders, and her pitch-black eyes matched the cold, unyielding gaze of the patriarch she served.
Her face was heavily covered in a thick, immaculate layer of makeup, enhancing her soft features while giving her a polished, almost artificial appearance as she stood quietly in the shadow of Teon Allistar.
