Chapter 138: Learning how to love...

Before the serving woman could understand what was happening, Zeka had already summoned the captain of the guards.

"I want to know how Felyn left the Trial Space."

He looked at the blindfolded woman on the screen. The blindfold made her face look different from before, but he could not forget Spring. Zeka had lived since the Gen.0 era and had witnessed her power. He had even been one of the people who forced her into the world within the Trial Space back then.

He had thought she would never return.

Yet now, Spring was sitting in a young man’s house, even smiling when he kissed her cheek.

"Investigate her, then prepare people to bring her back here," Zeka ordered.

The female captain lowered her head, but she still hesitated.

"Sir, that villa is private property. Moreover, the program is still being broadcast..."

"I did not ask you about the program."

Zeka accepted a black pen from the serving woman. The moment he lightly touched its body, the female captain collapsed to her knees, clutching her throat with both hands as she trembled in pain.

"Remember this. Do not let Felyn leave Silver Moon."

He paused. The female captain struggled to stand upright, bowed, then hurriedly left.

On the screen, Erik had just pulled out a chair for Felyn. Zeka watched that scene for a while longer before slowly smiling.

He did not know how Erik had brought Spring back.

But he would certainly find out.

...

At the villa, breakfast was finally served on the table.

Elowen placed the dish she had just cooked in front of Erik. Her silver hair was slightly messy after such a busy morning, but her expression was full of anticipation.

"Try it."

Erik took a bite and nodded.

"It is better than last time."

"Really?"

"Really. It is only a little salty."

Elowen tasted it too, then secretly took a sip of water.

"...Can you ignore that part?"

"Alright. But I will still remind you next time."

She looked at him with dissatisfaction, then laughed when Erik pulled her closer and kissed her forehead. Meira, sitting beside him, immediately held out her plate.

"Master, I want to be fed too."

"Elowen cooked this for me."

"Then Master can feed me one bite too."

Erik sighed, but still indulged her. Felyn heard everyone laughing and tilted her head to ask whether she could receive a similar reward.

"I think no one in this house will be willing to eat by themselves soon," Erik sighed.

The doorbell rang at that exact moment.

Laviana looked at the notification device and raised an eyebrow slightly.

"Two people have come to see you."

Erik set down his chopsticks, walked to the door, then was surprised to see Saraya and Vylana.

Saraya wore a simple cream-colored dress, her blonde hair tied neatly back. She held a thermal food container with both hands. Several bandages were still wrapped around her fingers, while a red mark on her left wrist had not completely faded.

Vylana stood beside her, carrying a paper bag. When she saw Erik, she nodded in greeting, no longer carrying the confidence that often made others uncomfortable.

"Hello, you two." Erik looked at the container, then at Saraya. "Is something wrong?"

Saraya swallowed lightly.

"I brought some food."

"For me?"

"Mhm. I cooked it myself."

Erik fell silent for a moment. His gaze unconsciously stopped on her two bandaged hands.

"You are still injured."

"They are only a few small wounds."

"I mean the burns too."

Saraya blushed and tried to hide her hands behind the container, but she did not know where to put them. Seeing that, Erik simply opened the door wider.

"Come inside first. If you keep holding that container any longer, I am afraid the food inside will get cold."

Saraya looked at him in surprise before finally stepping inside.

Erik suddenly remembered the cameras in the living room and stopped.

"I am broadcasting today. If you do not want to appear on screen, you can sit in the next room. I can also ask them to turn the cameras off for a while."

"I know there is a program today," Saraya replied softly. "But I did not come here to be seen by everyone."

"I understand."

She looked toward the living room and took a deep breath.

"If you do not mind, I do not need to avoid the cameras. I only want to bring you food."

Erik nodded. He turned to Laviana and asked her to remind the technical team to avoid close-up shots of guests if they felt uncomfortable, then led the two women to the dining table.

Elowen was the first to stand.

"Saraya, Vylana. Have you eaten breakfast yet?"

"No." Saraya shook her head. "I planned to leave after giving him the container."

"Then sit down first. I made a little too much food today."

Elowen stepped forward to take the paper bag from Vylana. Seeing the bandages on Saraya’s hands, she gently asked:

π—³πš›πšŽπšŽπ˜„π•–π•“π•Ÿπ• πšŸπšŽπ•.𝗰𝕠𝐦

"Have you changed the bandages? If they get wet, you need to change them."

Saraya looked at her, slightly flustered. The two had once faced each other as opponents, yet Elowen was now only concerned about her injured fingers, as naturally as she would be with any guest.

"I changed them already. Thank you."

"Mhm. Then sit beside Vylana."

Elowen did not ask further about the past, nor did she force herself to act overly close. That was precisely what made Saraya feel more at ease. She sat down, while Vylana silently pulled out a chair for her.

Erik returned to the table. Saraya placed the thermal container in front of him, her fingers trembling slightly as she unlocked the lid.

Inside was stewed meat with vegetables. The pieces of meat were unevenly cut, and several slices of carrot were softer than the rest, but the sauce had a rather pleasant color.

"When did you learn?" Erik asked.

"Since I returned to the apartment. Vylana helped me buy more ingredients."

"Only helped you buy them?" Vylana interjected from beside her. "Last night, I even had to stop her from throwing away the entire pan because she ruined a batch of meat."

"Vylana!"

Saraya’s face turned bright red.

"I told you not to tell him about that!"

"But you were about to say that you did not work hard."

Erik laughed, picked up a clean spoon, then scooped some meat with sauce. Saraya watched so intently that Vylana had to lightly touch her elbow, as though reminding her to relax.

Erik took a bite.

He chewed slowly, looked at the container again, then nodded.

"Not bad."

Saraya abruptly raised her head.

"Really?"

"Mhm. The meat is still a little tough, but the sauce is good. How long did you stew it?"

"Almost an hour."

"Try adding a little water from the start next time. If you let it dry out before adding more in the middle, the meat can become dry."

Saraya memorized his words so seriously that Erik could not help laughing.

"Wait, are you planning to go home and write down everything I said?"

She became flustered.

"I am afraid I will forget."

"Then I will write down the recipe for you later. It is not difficult."

Saraya looked at him. It was such an ordinary offer that Erik seemed not to have thought twice before saying it. But to her, it suddenly made her eyes burn.

Last night, even when Vylana had encouraged her to come, she had stared at the food for a long time, wondering whether bringing it over would only trouble Erik again.

Now, he was eating it and asking how long she had stewed the meat.

"You do not need to finish it," Saraya hurriedly said. "I know it is not very good."

Erik looked at her, slightly surprised.

"I am eating it because I want to. If I did not like it, I would have said so."

He scooped up another piece of carrot, then frowned very slightly.

"This piece is a little too soft."

Saraya jumped in surprise, while Vylana immediately turned away to cover her mouth as she laughed.

Erik laughed too.

"But at least it is no longer crunchy like raw carrot. That is progress."

"Erik!" Saraya was both embarrassed and unable to stop herself from laughing.

It had been a long time since receiving criticism had not felt as frightening as she had imagined.

When Erik took another piece of meat, Saraya unconsciously moved the container closer to him, then placed a tissue beside it, afraid that the sauce might stain his sleeve.

Only after she sat down did she realize that she wanted him to find it delicious, even if only a little.

In the past, Erik had often stood beside the table like that, waiting for her to taste a new dish before asking whether it suited her palate. At the time, she had only thought he was waiting to be praised.

Now, she was beginning to understand why he had been happy just because she ate a few more bites.

"Erik..."

"Hm?"

"I did not know that watching someone eat food you made could feel this happy."

He raised his head.

Saraya smiled. Her eyes were already slightly red, but her voice remained calm.

"Before, I truly never noticed. You did that many times."

Erik looked at the spoon, then nodded faintly.

"Mhm. When you cook for someone you care about, seeing them enjoy the food makes you happy."

He thought for a moment, then added with a completely serious expression:

"But it makes you even happier if they are willing to wash the dishes too."

Elowen was the first to laugh. Meira leaned against Erik’s shoulder, while Vylana had to cover her mouth. Even Saraya laughed, though tears were already threatening to fall.

"I can wash the dishes," she replied softly.

"Your hands are injured. You are excused today."

His tone was so natural that Saraya did not know what else to say.

...

On several screens, viewers began to recognize Saraya.

[Is she the Rank S Succubus whom Erik returned? ??]

[She treated him badly, and now she brings food over. Does she think one container of stewed meat is enough? ??]

[Look at the bandages on her fingers. Maybe she really is learning.]

[A man like Erik is even willing to eat food cooked by his former Partner? I cannot believe what I am seeing...]

[Do not forgive her on his behalf too quickly. Things between them are not that simple.]

Laviana glanced at the comments and quietly reduced the display speed on the screen in the room. She did not want the meeting to become a place where others casually judged Saraya.

Saraya did not look toward the camera either. She was looking at the small cuts on her hands, then raised her head when Erik put down the spoon.

"Erik, about what happened before..."

He shook his head faintly.

"I remember."

Saraya looked up. He did not say it with irritation, but neither did he smile and let her misunderstand that everything had passed.

"I already heard your apology at the hospital," Erik said. "I appreciate you bringing food today. But you do not need to do these things to prove anything to me."

She was silent for a moment.

"I know we cannot return to how things were before."

Erik nodded.

"Mhm."

Only one short answer, without blame but also without a promise. Saraya lowered her head and slowly exhaled.

"Then... if I occasionally want to ask you about a dish, would that be alright?"

Erik let out a slight laugh.

"Of course. I never prohibited you from learning how to cook."

"That is not what I meant..."

"I know."

He took out his phone, opened the notes section, and placed it beside the thermal container.

"I will send you the recipe later. If you find something difficult, just ask. But remember not to force yourself until both hands are injured."

Saraya looked at the phone for a while, then nodded.

"Alright."

She wanted to say much more, but in the end, she only took the tissue Elowen had just handed her and wiped the corners of her eyes.

Vylana, sitting beside her, gently placed a hand on her back.

"Are you alright?"

Saraya nodded.

"Mhm. I am fine."

Vylana looked at Erik, hesitated for a moment, then lowered her head.

"I have something I want to say too. But you already know everything I have done. I do not want to bring it all up again in front of everyone."

"Then you do not need to say it here," Erik replied.

Vylana was slightly surprised.

"You are not angry?"

"I was angry before. Now, I just do not want to spend the entire breakfast being angry again."

Laviana laughed softly. Vylana finally relaxed her shoulders.

"Thank you."

"Do not thank me yet. If you do something like that again in the future, I will still be angry."

"I understand."

Saraya turned to look at her friend and silently took her hand beneath the edge of the table. Vylana was slightly surprised, but she still gently squeezed back.

No one needed to say anything more.

Erik scooped up the last bit of sauce with his spoon, then turned toward Elowen.

"May I have some more bread? This would go better with bread."

Elowen smiled and stood.

"I will get it."

Saraya looked at him. She was no longer waiting for a sentence that would make everything return to how it had been. Just the fact that Erik ate the food she had made, clearly told her what was not good about it, then asked for more bread, was enough to make the morning far from meaningless.

A tear rolled down her cheek. She hurriedly wiped it away, but Erik still saw it.

"Saraya?"

"It is nothing." She shook her head with a smile. "I just... feel happy."

Erik gently pushed the tissue box toward her.

"Then have breakfast with us. You have not eaten anything yet."

Saraya nodded.

"Mhm."

...

In the apartment where Karin and Velyss were watching, a young Succubus raised a hand to wipe her eyes.

"I thought he would chase her away."

Karin crossed her arms.

"Not chasing her away does not mean he has to return to her. I think this is how it should be."

Velyss looked at Erik discussing the loaf of bread with Elowen, then nodded slightly.

"Mhm. He is still living his own life."

At the villa, a small notification appeared before Erik’s eyes.

[Emotional Energy is increasing.]

[Faith continues to accumulate.]

He glanced at it, then ignored it. Elowen had just returned with the bread, while Saraya was seriously asking Vylana whether adding water could truly make the meat softer.

Hearing that, Erik reached out to take a piece of bread.

"It can. But first, remember not to burn the pan next time."

"Erik!"

Saraya blushed, Vylana laughed, and Meira happily rested her head against his shoulder.

Laughter blended with the soft clinking of dishes. On the livestream screen, it was only an ordinary breakfast.

But for Saraya, it was the first time she truly felt the joy of preparing a meal for someone else with her own hands.
