Middle East.

Also known as the Middle East region.

That refers to the eastern and southern regions of the Mediterranean, from the eastern Mediterranean to large areas of the Persian Gulf, parts of Western Asia and North Africa, and regions of some 23 countries, including West Asia and Egypt in Africa, with the exception of Afghanistan.

It covers an area of more than 15 million square kilometres and has a population of 490 million, connecting the three continents of Asia, Europe and Africa, communicating with the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian Ocean.
