At first, Fu Baoying was still a little embarrassed and awkward.

The little girl said, "The doctor said she needs a lot of money for treatment. I want to help my mommy. I want her to get better soon."

The group fell silent.

Just then, a middle-aged woman hurried over, looking for the girl.

She pulled the little girl aside and said to Xu Yun’s group, "I’m so sorry to have disturbed your meal. I’ll take her out right now."

Xu Yun held the little girl back. He fixed his gaze on the woman and asked, "Who are you to her?"

"She’s Aunt Peng."

The little girl spoke up. "Aunt Peng is very nice. She’s helping me save my mommy."

"I’m a community worker here. This is my ID."

The woman knew he suspected her of being a criminal, so she showed her ID to Xu Yun and explained, "This child’s name is Ah Ji. She slipped away when I wasn’t looking. I’m sorry."

With that, she took the little girl by the hand and left.

The proprietress watched the two of them leave and sighed.

Director Peng looked at the ID in her hand, then at Lin Wanzhou’s discharge certificate. She was already mostly convinced.

However, for safety’s sake, she said she would need to verify their information and would get back to them in the afternoon.

Xu Yun and the others said that was fine; they could wait. In the meantime, they inquired about the required adoption procedures so they could start getting things ready.

They had expected the process to be complicated, but it turned out to be surprisingly simple here.

A little after 3 p.m., the community office called and asked them to come over, telling them their basic information had been confirmed without any issues.

The only remaining concern was the fact that Xu Yun was still single.
