Chapter 444 - 208: Tonight, I’m Bringing My A-Game
Xu Yun was just about to begin selecting his companion for the night when someone else approached him.
The newcomers were none other than Wanqing and her best friend.
Xu Yun looked at the two women, who were clearly making a beeline for him, and mentally gave them a score.
Out of a perfect 10, they were both eights.
The remaining two points weren’t lost on their figures or looks, but on the fact that they shouldn’t have been at this party. Think of it as them failing to score any ’character’ points.
Had he met these two women anywhere else, they would’ve scored at least one more point, making them nines.
There’s a difference between original and refurbished goods, after all.
Although sometimes refurbished goods are of better quality, more durable, and more comfortable to use than the originals, on a psychological level, everyone still has some favoritism.
Don’t try to argue.
Let me just ask you: if you were looking for a wife, you have two choices.
One is stunningly beautiful, big boobs and a great ass, incredibly sexy, and her skills are second to none.
The other has average looks, a mediocre but acceptable figure, and no technique whatsoever, but she’s a virgin.
So, who would you choose?
For a girlfriend, you’d definitely pick the first one. For a wife, you’d absolutely pick the second!
If you say you’d choose the first one, all I can say is, bro, you can’t even be honest with yourself!
Of course, Xu Yun wasn’t here today looking for a wife, or even a girlfriend.
He just wanted to experience the beauties of Victoria here in the Port City.
"Hey handsome, what a coincidence. You came to this party too?" the woman said, approaching Xu Yun with an easy familiarity.
Xu Yun looked at her and asked with a smile, "Hey beautiful, do we know each other?"
"Weren’t you at the Louis Vuitton store in K11 Mall this afternoon?"
The woman smiled. "We were in the store this afternoon, too. We saw you there. You were wearing this exact outfit."
"Oh, so that’s it. It seems our meeting was a matter of fortune, then."
Xu Yun raised his glass. "Care for a drink?"
"Sure."
The woman clinked her glass against his, took a demure sip, and said, "Handsome, judging by your accent, you’re not from Hong Kong Island, are you?"
"I’m from the Mainland, just here on vacation."
Xu Yun asked, playing dumb, "What about you, beautiful? You’re so pretty and elegant, you’re not some kind of celebrity, are you?"
"Not at all."
The woman was instantly amused and broke into a laugh. "I’m just a model for commercials. My name is Michelle. I’m nothing compared to a big star, but my dream is to become an entertainer like Sister Beibi."
"Sister Beibi only got where she is because she found a good, strong tree to lean on."
Xu Yun said, "Beautiful, if you want to succeed, you’ll have to keep working hard."
"Isn’t that what I’m doing right now?"
Michelle said to Xu Yun flirtatiously, "Handsome, why don’t you be my big tree? I promise I won’t let you down."
"I’m just an ordinary guy. I can’t do that."
Xu Yun laughed. "I have a bit of money, if that’s what you want. But if you’re asking for my life, I can’t give you that."
"Don’t kid me, handsome."
Michelle laughed. "I just saw you talking to a big celebrity, and she was acting very chummy with you."
"Honestly, I don’t really know her."
Xu Yun’s gaze shifted to Wanqing, who was standing behind her. "Hey beautiful," he said suddenly. "Fancy meeting you again."
The woman, Wanqing, had seen that her best friend was interested in Xu Yun, so she hadn’t planned on competing. She was prepared to play second fiddle for a bit before looking for another target.
But she never expected him to suddenly start talking to her.
’It seems like he even knows me.’
Michelle was a little surprised that Xu Yun actually knew her best friend, Wanqing.
She asked, puzzled, "Handsome, you and Wanqing know each other?"
"We’ve met once, briefly."
Xu Yun looked at Wanqing and smiled. "At the bar in the Four Seasons Hotel Shenzhen. She was sitting right next to me, having a drink."
With Xu Yun’s reminder, Wanqing finally remembered.
’No wonder he looked so familiar!’
’So he was that handsome man from the bar’s corridor last night, the one who could really hold his liquor.’
When he and his friend had looked over at her, she had glanced back at them.
After observing him for a moment, she’d noticed he was dressed quite impressively. She had been about to go over, say hello, and try to make a new friend when another woman had suddenly appeared and swooped in.
"What a coincidence. So it was you."
Now that she remembered, Wanqing smiled and said, "I didn’t expect you’d be in Xiangjiang too. Did you come just for this party?"
"No, it was a last-minute invitation."
Xu Yun’s gaze flickered past Michelle as he spoke. "I’m here by myself and don’t really know the area. How about you show me around? We can have a few drinks, chat, and admire the Victoria Harbor skyline at night."
"Of course I can," Wanqing agreed with a smile.
Seeing that he and Wanqing already knew each other, Michelle knew she had to give up on this blue-chip stock.
"Well, handsome, Wanqing, I’ll let you two talk. I’m going to see who else is here."
"Alright."
After Michelle left, Xu Yun and Wanqing began to talk.
Xu Yun asked, "You’re not from Hong Kong Island, are you?"
"No, I’m from Guangzhou."
Wanqing laughed. "Everyone said there were more opportunities here, so I came over. But it’s been two or three years, and I’m still a nobody, just a minor model. I mostly get by shooting product photos for a few brands, just enough to make ends meet."
"That’s definitely not easy."
Xu Yun lamented, "The people who have it hardest in this world are the ones at the bottom. They do the most work and earn the least money!"
"..." Wanqing was speechless.
’You’re some rich kid, so why are you trying to empathize with me?’
Their conversation was casual and meandered from topic to topic—relationships, life, even careers. They talked about whatever came to mind.
Xu Yun also had her fill him in on some local Xiangjiang gossip and other things he didn’t know about the city.
Throughout their conversation, Wanqing was also trying to probe the extent of Xu Yun’s resources and background.
