Chapter 479 - 219: Every Secret Has Its Price, Are You Willing to Pay?
Ruan Guohua frowned. A sudden, inexplicable sense of foreboding washed over him.
He couldn’t quite put his finger on why.
Based on his son’s personality, he absolutely wouldn’t call unless he was completely out of money.
’Did he already lose the few million I gave him? So quickly?’
’It’s only been a short while.’
’Whatever. If he lost it, he lost it. I’ll just write it off as an entertainment expense for Xu Yun.’
’I can just give him more later. It’s not a big deal.’
Ruan Guohua didn’t dwell on it. He answered the call right in front of Fu Baoying. "What is it?" he asked. "Out of money again?"
"That’s not it, Dad."
Ruan Qingnian replied, "We ran into some trouble here. We might need you to help us out."
"What kind of trouble?"
"Today we ran into a group of morons who blocked our way. They even tried to shake down Brother Xu."
"What!"
Ruan Guohua asked, "Are you all right?"
"We’re fine."
Ruan Qingnian hesitated. "It’s just... all six or seven of them got cut down by Brother Xu’s bodyguard. They’re all lying on the ground now."
"..."
Hearing this, Ruan Guohua’s heart clenched. He was genuinely shocked.
This wasn’t the chaotic era before the Handover.
Dead bodies were no small matter, especially so many at once!
’This damn mess... not even God himself could sort this out.’
He glanced at Fu Baoying, then immediately stood up. With a dark expression, he walked to the other side of the room, deliberately moving out of her earshot.
’Of course he couldn’t let her hear this. Are you kidding me?’
Fu Baoying watched him walk away. Noticing the look he was desperately trying to conceal, she immediately summoned her secretary.
"Go find out where President Ruan’s son went and what he’s been up to. Now!"
"Right away, President Fu."
Meanwhile, Ruan Guohua found a quiet corner and asked in a cold tone, "Where are Xu Yun and his people?"
"I told them to go on ahead."
"..." Hearing this, Ruan Guohua nearly coughed up blood from sheer rage.
’How did I end up with such a stupid son!’
He took a deep breath and asked again, "How many are dead?"
"What do you mean, ’how many are dead’?"
Ruan Guohua snapped, "The people, you idiot!"
"Nobody’s dead. They’re just all a little injured."
Ruan Qingnian explained, "They need to be taken to a hospital to get patched up. I was just worried the police would get involved."
"Goddammit! Can’t you just explain things clearly the first time!"
Ruan Guohua had run with street gangs in his youth. After letting out a curse, his heart instantly settled.
’As long as nobody’s dead, it’s fine.’
He said, "Stay put. I’ll make a call and get someone to take care of it."
"Okay, Dad."
Ruan Qingnian hung up. Bored, he found a place to sit down and started chatting with the men on the ground.
"I mean, what the hell is wrong with you guys? You had nothing better to do than to come and mess with him."
Ruan Qingnian sneered. "You all should be thanking me. If it weren’t for me, you might all have been left for dead here today. The original plan was to just kill you."
"!!!"
The man with the gold chain begged for mercy. "I was wrong, big bro! Thank you for saving our lives! Please, just let us go, okay?"
"Nope. I promised Brother Xu I’d get you to a hospital for treatment."
The man with the gold chain: "..."
"Just wait. Someone will be here soon."
Just a few minutes later, a car pulled up. People from the casino had arrived. The first person to get out was Zhang Jinsu, the manager of the VIP hall.
Seeing him, the man with the gold chain immediately cried out for help, "President Zhang, save me!"
"Save you? My ass!"
He strode over and kicked the man squarely in the face. Then he took in the scene and felt a chill run down his spine.
Then he turned to the security guards behind him and said, "Drag all of them to the hospital. What a disgrace."
After giving the order, he turned to Ruan Qingnian and said respectfully, "Young Master Ruan, are you unharmed?"
"Did my dad send you?"
"No, your father called our boss."
"Oh."
Ruan Qingnian eyed him sideways. "You guys at MGM are really something else. Just because we stopped playing at your tables, you send people to ambush us? Trying to keep us from leaving?"
"No, no, this has nothing to do with us."
Zhang Jinsu quickly denied it. "These people don’t work for the company. But rest assured, since this happened on our turf, our boss has made it clear that we will give you and President Ruan a satisfactory explanation."
"There’s no need for an explanation. We’ll let the matter drop here."
Ruan Qingnian got to his feet. "If that’s all, I’m leaving."
"Of course, Young Master Ruan. Take care. We hope you’ll visit us again soon."
After Ruan Qingnian left, Zhang Jinsu walked up to The Only One—the woman who was the most lightly injured and hadn’t yet been dragged away. Expressionless, he said, "Bitch. You thought you could cause trouble in our casino?"
"President Zhang, no, I didn’t."
The woman shook her head in terror. "I didn’t mean to! I didn’t know they were your VIPs!"
"By all rights, and according to the boss’s orders, I should be dumping your body in the river today to give them a proper apology."
Zhang Jinsu continued, "But you’re lucky. They said to let the matter drop, so I’ll spare your life. But you are never to set foot in our casino again. Do you understand!"
"I understand, I understand."
Zhang Jinsu asked another question. "All of you were taken down by one guy?"
"Yeah."
The woman said, her voice trembling with lingering fear, "That man’s bodyguard was terrifyingly skilled. He had a knife. With just a few quick slashes, all of them were cut and went down screaming. We didn’t even have a chance to fight back."
"Alright, I get it. Now scram!"
’Someone who could make Young Master Ruan stay behind to handle the aftermath while he just walks away... he must be somebody important.’
「On the tarmac.」
Xu Yun and Lin Wanzhou had already taken off. They were on their way to Shenzhen.
