"Mr. Li, the secretary wants to invite you for lunch. He..." Jiang Hu finished his business talk, then lowered his voice slightly and said.

Li Yifei shook his head and said, "I’ll pass on lunch. I have things to do in the provincial city. I’ll treat you next time."

"Then... okay, I’ll inform the secretary," Jiang Hu didn’t expect Li Yifei to refuse directly. After a slight pause, he quickly nodded.

After Jiang Hu left, Li Yifei looked at Lang Wenqin and said, "I need to leave first. You still have to stay for one or two days until things are sorted out."

"Yes, sir. Where are they?" Li Yifei asked.

"His family went out last night and hasn’t come back yet." The old man replied.

"Where did they go?"

"I don’t know. They left last night!"

They’ve gone? Li Yifei clicked his tongue, nodded, waited in front of the door for a while, but naturally, no one showed up, so he drove back to Dan City. Since Li Manli wasn’t home, he couldn’t fulfill his promise to bring her back.

Li Yifei didn’t foresee that, despite rescuing Li Manli twice, she couldn’t escape the Grim Reaper or her tragic fate. When Li Yifei returned to Dan City and Jiang Hu was giving the final report, he received a call from his subordinates. As soon as he answered the phone, Jiang Hu’s expression changed, and Li Yifei overheard that a jump incident had occurred at a commercial building in downtown Dan City. Two people jumped together: a young girl, jumping from a hotel on the building’s first floor, died with disheveled clothing... suspected of being violated. "Well... thank you, Mr. Li." Jiang Hu initially wanted to refuse; although he didn’t drive here, he had a dedicated driver waiting. However, riding in Li Yifei’s car isn’t something just anyone can enjoy, especially when the other party personally drives. "The police are handling a case inside, you can’t go in!" A policeman came over and stopped Li Yifei.

"I know the victim!" Li Yifei applied a bit of force, blocking the policeman’s hand reaching out, and continued walking inside, moving through the crowd, where he already saw a small figure lying beside the deceased, crying mournfully. It was Li Manli’s mother. Two policemen were holding her back, preventing her from damaging the body. Wu Gang was also kneeling nearby, looking distraught.

As for the deceased... Li Yifei recognized Li Manli’s shoes. The cheap shoes, costing just tens of yuan, yet Li Manli was very careful with them, meticulously cleaning even a bit of dust. "Who did it?" Li Yifei asked in a low voice.

That tone... Jiang Hu’s heart skipped a beat and replied, "Mr. Li, I just asked a hotel staff member, and she said she didn’t know; the girl just jumped from the hotel room and died!"

How did Li Manli end up in a hotel room under such circumstances? And with her clothes disheveled, Li Yifei ignored Jiang Hu, walking a few steps towards the dazed Wu Gang, grabbing his collar and angrily demanding, "Wu Gang, what the hell did you do?"

Wu Gang initially had an unfocused look but immediately recognized who was before him, his eyes widened instantly. After understanding Li Yifei’s question, he shook his head repeatedly, saying, "No... it has nothing to do with me. Don’t blame me; her mother and I didn’t know anything!"

Li Manli’s mother just cried, so Li Yifei turned to Wu Gang for an answer. The latter was equally scared, stammering, "We don’t know either. Last night, we intended to bring Li Manli’s mother to Dan City for a check-up. The money came from Wang Feng; he even drove us here. We had dinner at the hotel. Wu Gang seemed genuinely unaware, not appearing to lie. Hearing Wang Feng’s name made Li Yifei’s eyes flash with a trace of killing intent; the other party had organized the check-up and deceived Li Manli to leave overnight?

He quickly dispatched a team with Wu Gang to arrest the person. Meanwhile, Li Manli’s mother still wept heartbreakingly. Her only family member in this world had died, and it was her daughter. Regardless of nationality or ethnicity, anyone would find it unbearable. Li Yifei didn’t know how to console her, for he was also deeply saddened.

He saw Li Manli’s remains because she fell flat; though it was just five stories high, she landed on the back of her head and died instantly. Despite Li Yifei being an extraordinary expert, he couldn’t revive someone already deceased. Li Manli’s face was pale, her hair unruly, her looks delicate, her eyes unfocused and open as if she couldn’t rest in peace. Her clothes had signs of tearing; even the lower pants only had one leg on, the undergarment was torn.

Such a scene could never be considered a normal death, so Li Yifei was very angry because fate led him to save Li Manli twice but still couldn’t prevent her death. Li Yifei felt a sense of helplessness, causing him to be very angry; if Li Manli had died normally, he would only regret it.
