Chapter 2512 - 2576: Taking Action to Stop It

"I..." The older man didn’t expect Li Yifei to be so fearless, actually daring to hit someone, looking even more fierce than them. When asked for evidence, he hesitated.

"What evidence? I can prove that I’m her aunt, she’s my brother’s daughter, what kind of proof do you need? Young man, you’ve already hit someone, we can call the police at any time, and when they come, you won’t be able to escape."

"Oh? Is that so?" Li Yifei looked at her indifferently, and the latter immediately felt as if she was placed in an environment dozens of degrees below zero, her body shivering uncontrollably.

Li Yifei was also unwilling to waste time with them, so seeing her still trying to argue, he directly walked towards the remaining two.

"What are you doing? You really think I won’t dare hit you?" The older man said while trying to retaliate against Li Yifei, but unfortunately, he was completely incapable, and as soon as he reacted, he was already sent flying. Li Yifei’s cold voice followed, "Whatever you have to say, explain it to the police!"

"What did you say?" The fat woman seemed not to hear clearly, but Li Yifei saw her turning to run away. Want to run? If Li Yifei lets her run, that would be strange. He chased with his foot, kicking up a stone and hitting the woman directly on her back. Her legs gave way and she fell forward with a scream.

"Good!" Although the people around couldn’t intervene, seeing Li Yifei subdue these suspected traffickers or kidnappers made them happy. When Li Yifei knocked the three people down, he picked up his phone to dial a number. As he dialed, he hesitated, realizing he didn’t know whom to call. He couldn’t possibly call in the Chief Deputy Director for a suspected trafficker.

Li Yifei wasn’t easily trusting; it seemed he believed the young girl without verifying, but he actually felt the girl’s fear and plea for help were real. As for these three, they seemed to have a guilty conscience. Moreover, one claimed to be a daughter, one said sister, yet they spoke in southern dialect, while the girl struggled with Chinese, resembling a foreigner trying to speak Huaxia language.

Based on these judgments, Li Yifei couldn’t hold back.

Even if it was a misunderstanding, without precise judgment, or if he had misjudged, encountering such a thing warranted intervention. If the young girl was kidnapped, and you saw it and didn’t intervene, she might miss her only chance to cry for help, caught and possibly beaten, facing tragic consequences—how could one live with such a burden?

Many native people prefer less trouble over more trouble, for instance, seeing men hitting women, adults hitting children, or forcibly detaining others, they might feel uneasy yet only voice reluctance.

Before the new year, Li Yifei saw similar news on Twitter, which he shared, rallying many young followers to respond in kind.

If within one’s ability, walking over to obstruct could change the fate of the suspected victim.

In Huaxia, there are some outdated traditions or inertial thinking, believing one shouldn’t interfere in others’ affairs, merely observer. This could evolve into husbands hitting wives, parents hitting children, or young people hitting older ones, and no matter what, neighbors and outsiders can’t intervene—is this right?

Whether hitting one’s own children, spouse, or elders, it’s illegal. If you met it, would you intervene? This is Li Yifei pondering. Ultimately, he actually didn’t need to think, because whenever it happened, Li Yifei would intervene, regardless if it was a misunderstanding, afraid of the slim chance it wasn’t, feeling it his responsibility.

Of course, there are many means of intervention beyond personal obstruction; you can call the police, seek help, and more. Li Yifei once saw a program arranging for a sleazy guy to harass a girl in public places, with hidden cameras capturing people’s reactions. As the sleazy uncle made a move, surrounding people quickly noticed, yet disappointingly, few took action, less than one in ten did. It was thought-provoking, so Li Yifei shared young boys’ reactions in the video, who bravely intervened against the uncle’s behavior, not retreating amidst threats, continuing to protect the girl.

Such actions are beautiful, and Li Yifei praised them heartily, the tweet provoking significant social response.

Regarding the incident, as the girl asked for help, Li Yifei would certainly aid her, and the two men and one woman’s words were flawed and frantic—making them even more suspicious.

In a flash, he subdued them, and the surrounding people began to discuss. Li Yifei didn’t think their previous inaction was wrong, just hoped his actions could influence someone among them, especially a few young kids.

With the people subdued, nothing else could be said but to call the police. Nearby road patrol officers arrived promptly, with Li Yifei driving along.

The girl chose to sit in his car but only dared to sit in the back, her gaze timid. On the way, Li Yifei asked a few questions to which the girl answered simply. She was heading to Dan City from Mile City when she was targeted by the two men and one woman. They quickly learned about her situation and harbored ill intentions. The girl was initially unguarded especially when the woman offered her food and drink, tending to her car sickness.

Yet the girl soon sensed something amiss; initially muddled from the car ride, thus reducing the trio’s guard, they exchanged glances, sending cellphone messages, planning to kidnap her after disembarking. She glimpsed the words on the fat woman’s phone screen—stating ’this girl looks good, appropriate for Young Master’s enjoyment.’ The girl recognized the phrase despite poor Mandarin, realizing its meaning. So when they reached the rest area, she said she needed to descend to ease herself. The woman opposed but had no choice as the girl claimed she was about to vomit, allowing her to disembark, with the two men following.

As soon as she got off the bus, she frantically dashed ahead, crying for help, leading to what unfolded next.

Li Yifei understood the situation, sighed inwardly, comforted, "Uncle assures they will be duly punished, don’t bear the mental burden."

"Uncle, thank you, without you, I truly wouldn’t know what to do."

"Hmm, never mind, let the police handle it!" Li Yifei said.

The girl nodded vigorously, still fearful.

Upon reaching the police station, Li Yifei led the girl out of the car; those three had recovered and cast hostile glances, cursing as they saw them. Li Yifei turned to look, causing the younger man to shut his mouth but stare at Li Yifei with hatred.

After a brief inquiry, Li Yifei left his contact, gave a statement, yet they refused to release him, insisting the case hadn’t been clearly investigated. Frustrated, Li Yifei stepped out to make a call. Soon after, the police station’s director received a superior phone call, releasing Li Yifei and the girl, detaining the two males and one female.

"Uncle..." The girl exited, glanced up at the sun, squinted her eyes, hesitated, seeing Li Yifei turn prompting her to say, "Are you heading to Dan City?"

"Yes, heading to Dan City."

"Then may I ask... can you take me? My bus has left, and I... am unfamiliar."

"Sure, of course, I can!" Li Yifei said.

The girl smiled, "Thank you, uncle."

After getting in the car and driving some distance, Li Yifei suddenly asked, "Why do you trust I’m not a bad person?"

"Ah?" Initially somewhat carsick, hearing Li Yifei’s question, the girl immediately opened her eyes, looking at Li Yifei with fear.

Li Yifei didn’t expect to scare her with a word, chuckled, "I meant to say, don’t easily trust strangers, especially men. Consider, you just escaped bad people yet quickly trusted me. What if I were also bad?"

The girl bit her lip, shook her head, "No, uncle already saved me, can’t be a bad person."

"What if?"

"Then it’d just be unlucky for me, but I still believe uncle is good."

This good person card issued... although I indeed have no ulterior motives, merely enjoy helping others, Li Yifei shook his head hearing this, chuckling, "You judged correctly, yet uncle still advises you not to easily trust strangers unless you have great strength safeguarding your safety."

The girl nodded, understanding and not understanding, feeling reassured by Li Yifei’s words; in such an environment, if Li Yifei was bad, she’d likely not survive.

The car drove at a steady pace, Li Yifei played soothing music, and the girl on the back seat looked pale, evidently carsick again but had fallen asleep.

Li Yifei mentally revisited prior events; he encountered them. If he hadn’t, would the girl be kidnapped by the three today? If it wasn’t him, would others intervene? Would they hesitate at threats and ultimately believe them, watching the girl get dragged back...

And such occurrences, in different places, how many are there? Li Yifei doesn’t know.
