Over two hours later, Zhang Tianxing finally received a reply from the girl, saying she had been discussing business and now needed to accompany a client for a meal. Zhang Tianxing let out a sound of understanding, asking why she still had to entertain clients after work. Of course, even though he asked this, Zhang Tianxing understood. The girl’s role at the company was indeed to negotiate with clients, and since she’d only recently joined, she usually accompanied the leadership. But today, she was going with a colleague.

Even though Zhang Tianxing felt a bit disappointed, he supported the girl. Learning she still had to take the clients out to eat, Zhang Tianxing looked at the bouquet and cake in his hand, shrugged, and replied, "Be safe, don’t drink too much, and let me know the address so I can pick you up."

The girl responded, "No need to pick me up. I won’t drink, and I’ll take a taxi home once the dinner is over."

"It’s not a hassle to pick you up. I have nothing else to do, so just send me the address."

"Alright, I’ll let you know when I get there. Remember to have your meal too!"

These were their text exchanges. Zhang Tianxing felt a bit disappointed, but it was work, after all, so he didn’t dwell on it for long. After waiting for over an hour, Zhang Tianxing received the address from the girl—it was five or six kilometers away. Zhang Tianxing hailed a taxi and went over right away; although the dinner might last longer, he wanted to see the girl first and surprise her with a gift.

Little did Zhang Tianxing know that the surprise he intended turned into a shock—something happened to the girl. When he arrived at the restaurant where she was hosting, just as he was about to settle the bill, a crowd of people rushed out of the restaurant. Suddenly, someone jumped down in front of the restaurant—a girl. As the girl was falling, Zhang Tianxing’s eyes widened, and his breath halted because he recognized the dress and saw who was jumping.

It was her, the girl who was celebrating her birthday today, and she had jumped directly from the fourth floor. Zhang Tianxing’s mind buzzed, and his heart seemed to stop. The next second, Zhang Tianxing rushed forward, pushed through the crowd, and saw the girl lying on the ground in a pool of blood. There was a scratch on her face, and her dress was torn.

People around were shouting and making calls to the police and ambulance. The girl was unconscious and barely breathing. Zhang Tianxing raised his head towards the window where he saw a few shadows retreating.

Why, why did having a meal lead to being forced to jump? Zhang Tianxing’s years with the Flying Hawk Squad gave him an instinctive sense that something was wrong. However, getting the girl to the hospital for emergency treatment was crucial now, so he had to temporarily let it go.

The girl was rushed to emergency care. On her birthday, when she’d supposedly secured a deal, she instead jumped from the fourth floor.

Supposedly, the fourth floor wasn’t that high, and she shouldn’t have fallen so badly, but it seemed as though she was pushed, making the fall severe. Even though she didn’t land on her head first, she landed on her back and bottom, which led directly to her coma despite two days of emergency care. The diagnosis suggested she might become a vegetative state; even if she woke up, she might be paralyzed given her spine was severely damaged, and she couldn’t even turn her head.

Of course, this definitive diagnosis came later. At the time, when the girl fell into a coma, her parents rushed over upon hearing the news and were devastated to see their daughter like this. The police couldn’t give a clear answer when the girl’s family asked; their responses were vague.

Zhang Tianxing realized there was something fishy, so he decided to investigate it himself. The girl’s parents were ordinary people, a teacher, and a civil servant, struggling to cover their daughter’s medical expenses, leaving Zhang Tianxing to start his investigation.

Through his investigation, Zhang Tianxing noticed discrepancies. Initially, the restaurant staff said the girl was dining with three men, then two more men came in, two left, and shortly after, the girl jumped.

From the scene investigation, it was noted that it would have been difficult for the girl to jump on her own. Though the restaurant windows were floor-to-ceiling, the opening was about 1.2 meters high. Who would suddenly want to jump while dining?

Not even someone who drank too much would do that, especially since the girl didn’t drink that day.

When Zhang Tianxing asked for the footage, the hotel staff initially said there was some, but the police had taken it without leaving a copy. When Zhang Tianxing approached the police, he was told the hotel didn’t have surveillance, and all cameras were malfunctioning.

Days later, the police concluded the investigation, claiming the girl jumped due to emotional distress or a sudden mental breakdown.

How the hell is that possible? Zhang Tianxing almost lost it on the spot, but as a retired soldier without any connections in the city, he couldn’t do much against the police even though he knew the bastards were lying and covering for wrongdoers.

The girl’s parents were deeply grieved when they learned of the results. How could their perfectly normal daughter suddenly jump and have a sudden mental breakdown? This was impossible. When they questioned the police, they couldn’t even name the men dining with their daughter that day, and the police refused to disclose any information.

Such incidents undoubtedly indicated something extremely fishy; there were clearly issues. Zhang Tianxing decided to continue his investigation. In this area, he was a professional, even if it meant things got more complicated with police involvement.

Half a month later, Zhang Tianxing uncovered the truth behind the events, which plunged him into intense rage.

It was orchestrated by the man who harassed the girl at work the previous day. A son of a local tycoon, he had been dating the girl but was unfaithful, juggling multiple partners. When the girl discovered this, she broke up with him, thinking the relationship was behind her as she moved on and adjusted her mindset post-graduation. But the man came back to harass her, especially after being provoked the previous day. Unable to bear it, he orchestrated the plot.

Essentially, this was a calculated scheme. Knowing the girl’s line of work, the man planned to use a business contract to attempt a reconciliation. Furthermore, since it was the girl’s birthday, he intended to set up a scene to win her over emotionally.

Unfortunately, when the girl noticed the man named Fu Changsu coming over, she immediately confronted him. Fu Changsu didn’t deny his involvement, saying it was all arranged by him, and promised to give the girl a double business deal and a sports car to make up for his mistakes, provided she could forgive him.

The girl, of course, refused, leading to an escalation. The room was filled with Fu Changsu’s people, and when apologies and temptations didn’t work, threats began. He menacingly warned he would deal with the security guard if she didn’t comply. Desperately, the girl claimed to have no ties, and yesterday’s actions were merely to provoke Fu Changsu.

Fu Changsu was pleased to hear this answer. With a sinister smile, he approached the girl, demanding a kiss. The girl kept backing away, reaching the edge of the bed. Fu Changsu pressed on, and the girl shouted for him to stop, threatening to jump.

"Haha, go ahead, jump! You think the girl Fu Changsu fancies will get away? A mere security guard dares to provoke me? I’ve treated you well enough. We dated for months, and I haven’t even gotten you. You’re still ungrateful. Damn it, I’m here today to seek your answer: Will you agree or not?"

"I refuse. Don’t push me! Fu Changsu, we’re long over. I want someone who genuinely cares for me, not someone like you who have no feelings and are unfaithful!" the girl shouted.

Fu Changsu was furious. He pressed on, a coldness in his eyes. Looking back at those around him, he said, "Everyone here is mine. Believe it or not, even if I forced you here, nothing would happen to me!"

"You!" The girl believed he might actually do it. But for her dignity, she got tougher, refusing to show weakness lest he escalates. She declared, "I won’t give in to you, Fu Changsu. If you dare touch me, I’ll jump off."

She had no other means of threatening him, resorting pathetically to threats of suicide.

"Do you dislike me that much?" Fu Changsu asked chillingly.

"It’s not about liking or disliking. Fu Changsu, I admit I used to like you. You’re handsome and stylish, and you seem righteous. But I’m picky about relationships. You play with women—no, you toy with them. So I can’t like you any longer. Besides, I’ve found someone new, a new love..."

"Enough!" Fu Changsu yelled, suddenly reaching out to strangle the girl, malice in his eyes. He’d had numerous flings over the years, with an indifferent attitude. Still, he easily became fixated when a woman he made an effort for eluded him—believing that what’s unattainable comes across as the best.

With her declaring attachment to another, Fu Changsu’s emotions flared. He squeezed the girl’s neck tightly, asking again, "Will you be with me or not?"

"I’d rather die than associate with you again!" the girl replied coldly, resolute. At that moment, she envisioned Zhang Tianxing’s face—unattractive, somewhat aged, and troubled but with an inexplicable charm. Her resolve strengthened.

"Fine, fine!" Fu Changsu nodded repeatedly, his demeanor hardening with each word—truly losing control. Concerned about escalating trouble, a few men attempted to intervene but were stopped by Fu Changsu’s roar, urging them to step back. Grabbing the girl’s clothes roughly, he snarled, "Did you threaten to jump? Let me help you. Jump! If not, I’ll force you today and let my men take turns. I mean what I say!"

The girl, with her blood boiling, stood up for her dignity, anger surging as she stood her ground. She might not have genuinely intended to jump, merely aiming to scare them away. Yet, with Fu Changsu losing his mind, he forcefully pushed the girl, opening the window, intending to push her out.
