Xie Rong’s smile gradually faded.

"Furen—"

"What? Was I supposed to find it funny too?" Wang Gege’s brows pulled together tightly. "I was serious, and you were standing there imagining me climbing a tree and laughing at me!"

Xie Rong’s expression changed slightly.

Wang Gege pointed toward the window.

"Fine. Go climb it yourself. Go up there and laugh alone."

"Furen, this husband did not mean—"

"I don’t care what you meant!"

The room fell silent.

Xie Rong stared at her.

Wang Gege was still glaring at him, her face clearly showing that she was genuinely offended.

"You always do this. You say something, then when I react, you find it amusing." She crossed her arms. "Is making fun of me really that entertaining?"

For once, Xie Rong did not immediately tease her back. The laughter had completely disappeared from his face. "No."

Wang Gege’s expression remained cold.

Xie Rong took a step closer. "This husband was wrong."

"Stop there!" Wang Gege huffed angrily. "Why does this fucking heart keep trying to accept you when you always do things like this to me?!"

Xie Rong stopped. For a moment, he simply stared at her.

Wang Gege seemed to realize what she had just said only after the words had already left her mouth.

"Get out..." she said softly.

But when Xie Rong did not move, she shouted, "Get out!"

Xie Rong remained where he was.

The faint amusement from earlier had completely disappeared from his face. He looked at her quietly, as though waiting for her anger to subside.

"Furen—"

"I said get out!"

Wang Gege grabbed the pillow beside her and threw it toward him.

Xie Rong instinctively reached out to catch it.

Unfortunately, he used the wrong hand. The firm pillow landed directly against his injured palm.

His expression changed slightly.

Wang Gege’s eyes immediately widened. "Why did you catch it?! You should have just dodged!"

Xie Rong glanced at the pillow still in his hand before looking back at her.

"This husband thought this husband deserved a hit from Furen."

Wang Gege’s expression twisted. "Then you should let it hit you somewhere else! Why did you use that hand?!"

For a moment, Xie Rong simply stared at her.

Wang Gege’s eyes flickered toward his injured palm again. Although the bandage had not come undone, she could not tell whether the impact had worsened the wound.

Her anger gradually turned into frustration.

"Give me that." She held out her hand.

Xie Rong raised his brows slightly. "The pillow?"

"Your hand!"

He slowly walked toward the bed and placed the firm pillow back onto the bed before extending his injured hand toward her.

As Wang Gege checked his palm, Xie Rong’s soft voice suddenly reached her ear.

"I’m sorry..."

Unfortunately, Wang Gege flinched. She instantly raised her head, and the top of her forehead struck directly against Xie Rong’s chin.

"Ugh—"

Both of them froze.

Wang Gege slowly lifted a hand to her forehead.

Xie Rong remained completely still, his hand now resting against his chin.

She blinked, "Uh—ah, I didn’t mean to—I mean, why did you stay so close to me..."

Xie Rong slowly lowered his hand.

Wang Gege immediately narrowed her eyes. "You were too close. That’s why my head hit you. Serves you right..."

"Ah..." Xie Rong pressed his lips straight, "Then this husband apologised again, this husband didn’t mean to be that closed."

He suddenly stood up, "This husband will just sleep somewhere else..." he smiled, Xie Rong merely smiled before turning away, "Furen should rest."

With that, he began walking toward the inner chamber, clearly intending to find somewhere else to spend the night.

However, Wang Gege’s gaze suddenly fell onto his injured hand.

She froze.

A small drop of blood had fallen from his fingertips.

"Wait."

Xie Rong stopped.

Wang Gege’s eyes widened. "Is it bleeding again?"

Before he could answer, she had already rushed down from the bed and caught his injured hand.

"But I’m sure it was fine when I checked it just now..." Her brows immediately drew together as she carefully turned his palm over. "Did I throw the pillow too hard?"

Xie Rong lowered his gaze toward her. The wound had indeed begun bleeding again.

"It is nothing." He said calmly.

"Nothing?" Wang Gege frowned. "You are bleeding."

She carefully pulled his hand closer and inspected the bandage. A faint trace of fresh blood had already begun spreading through the cloth.

Her expression gradually became more serious, "You should not have caught it."

He raised his gaze, "This husband merely reacted."

"With your injured hand?"

Xie Rong remained silent, while Wang Gege sighed.

"Sit." She said, sounded like an order.

Xie Rong glanced toward the bed.

Wang Gege followed his gaze and immediately understood what he was thinking. "Just sit there."

He obediently sat on the edge of the bed.

Wang Gege stood before him, carefully examining his palm again. The blood had not spread too far, but the sight still made her feel slightly guilty.

She glanced toward the wooden chair.

"Just sleep on the bed tonight," she said, almost like a whisper.

Xie Rong slowly looked up at her. "What did Furen say? This husband couldn’t hear it clearly..."

Wang Gege glared at him. "I said for tonight, just sleep on the bed. Sleep somewhere else starting tomorrow..."

For a moment, Xie Rong simply looked at her.

Then, as though he had finally understood something extremely important, he slowly nodded.

"This husband understands."

Wang Gege narrowed her eyes. "You do?"

"Tonight, this husband is permitted to sleep on the bed." He pressed his lips together tightly. "Thank you, Furen..."

Wang Gege frowned. "Are you mocking me again?"

"No—no—no!" Xie Rong immediately raised both hands in denial. "This husband would not dare."

He then glanced toward the bed before looking back at her. "So... this husband would sleep over here, right?"

Wang Gege narrowed her eyes.

The way he was asking made it seem as though he were afraid she would change her mind at any moment.

"Yes."

"Here?"

"Yes."

"On the bed?"

Wang Gege’s expression darkened. "Ethan."

Xie Rong immediately raised both hands again. "This husband was merely making sure."

"Then you have made sure enough."

Xie Rong nodded seriously. "Understood."

He then carefully stood up, as though afraid even moving too quickly might cause Wang Gege to take back her permission.

Wang Gege watched him suspiciously. Why did she suddenly feel as though she had fallen into some kind of trap?

’No. He could not possibly be scheming just to sleep on the bed, right?’

"Lie down first, Furen. Your neck is still hurting..." He said, gently putting the pillow back into place.

Wang Gege slowly moved and lay back down, though her eyes remained fixed on him with the vigilance of a hawk.

Xie Rong merely looked at her.

Then, making sure not to disturb her injured neck, he carefully lay down beside her.

For a moment, he remained completely still.

Only after Wang Gege had closed her eyes did Xie Rong slowly turn onto his side, his back facing her.

The moment his face was hidden from her view, the corners of his lips slowly curved upward.

A faint, victorious smile appeared on his face.
