Sweet Reincarnation
241 Stories Sage from the East
Horwood-Mill Sokiholo stepped into the southern most marginal lands for the first time in his life.
Land uninhabitable to people. Frontline with enemy countries. harsh natural environment. I heard rumors like that, it was supposed to be a place roughly far from me.
"This is Mortairn territory!!
"It's busy inside."
Next to Horwood is Digidelio-Mill-Harbonch, who was his junior researcher. They are all currently unemployed. I slapped my resignation into the lab where I worked, and I just quit. But there's something bright in their faces. Because my next job is in Mortairn territory.
They had spent nearly a month travelling by carriage and had finally arrived in Mortairn territory the other day. My body should be tired on the long journey, but I am full of energy from the exhilaration I have stepped into New Heaven and Earth or in vain. Regardless of the still young Digidelio, it's amazing how active it is up to Horwood, who should be middle-aged.
At the end of those two gazes, I see a shadow waving big.
Approaching the shadows, it was a welcome for the Mortairn family.
"Welcome to Mortairn territory. Mr. Horwood, Digidelio, you're both welcome."
"Pro hol!! Mm, you picked me up."
"Of course. I'll show you from here, don't worry."
It was Prohort-Agerpov who welcomed two former fellows in the realm. Digidelio is a fellow student named Cherry Blossom in sync, who made him a fellow student at boarding cadet school and taught the same instructor. Each other, once despised by name of inferior student, but his talent blossomed when he taught Pais. Prohor has accomplished the feat of graduating in chief when he graduates.
"You're Pro Hol, junior. I've heard from you."
"Hi, Mr. Horwood. No, should I call you Dr. Sokiholo?
"I quit my research job. It's also awkward to be called a teacher. You just have to call me by name. From now on, we're going to be colleagues."
"Yes, you did."
The reason Horwood went out of his way to get to Mortairn territory was because he was single-fished by the Mortairn family. Pais appeared to him smoking in the general purpose magic lab, and there was also a Digidelio driving to make groundbreaking discoveries, inventing candy that would make magic available to anyone.
Naturally, this technology became classified and could not be taken out of the mouth except by the Mortairns. Even if research continues with generic research, the situation continues where results cannot be presented. Then it is better to transfer the axial foot entirely to the Mortairn family and to continue the research under the Mortairn asylum. That's how I was persuaded. The amount of the offered salary was also offered eight times the amount at the time of general purpose research affiliation. Eight times the salaries of royal laboratory researchers, also known by the average person as high salaries. If you change jobs, you can get rich with an easy win. This keeps people from moving their minds.
After the transfer, the inability to make an external presentation of the research contents remains unchanged, but at least there will be no longer any problems with supervisors or colleagues to hide the research contents, nor will they be seen as having no results. The result of the decision is now that the research budget will also be lubricated.
"Did you have any trouble quitting?
"That's what happened. There have been some stories about you trying to hold me back. This one pays forty crowns a year. Plus research costs for hundred crowns. Housing costs free. Four-and-a-half crowns a year over there and five shilots of annual research money. I'm not talking about it anymore. Rather, I felt sorry for the rest of them."
"Wow, he saw the laughing chief and mistakenly thought he was crying"
"It is"
The elite of the Royal Institute has high pride, and in terms of pay, it's never cheap pay. Rather, it's a high-paying category. Normally, it's hard to think about kicking this treatment.
There's something wrong with the Mortairn family, which ponds salaries that exceed those of a national organization called the Royal Institute.
If I tried to make it a Horwood that has been scattered cold, I could naturally choose the Mortairn family that would value me highly everywhere.
"So, how long does it take from here?
"It's still going to take a while. We have stays along the way, but we arrange for the finest hospitality, so we promise you a comfortable journey"
"I'm glad. Now, this is Mortaire territory, right?
"Yes, it will be the Eastern Region"
Mortarn territory refers to the entire semi-arid zone surrounded by mountains, originally known as the Mortarn region. There you will find the present Mortauern territory by swallowing the territory of Sir Liptauer. It refers to the area of the former Liptauer territory, which is relatively precious to rainfall, and is called the Eastern Region. That's where they are now. If you come through the main streets from Wang Du, you will enter from the edge of the eastern region.
"You don't have a lot of livestock."
Horwood felt the number of livestock was higher than what he had imagined from stories he had previously heard. I'm not talking about it compared to other territories I've been through, so it's a very standard pastoral landscape.
"It's part of agricultural instruction."
"Agricultural guidance?
"They call it the Sanjuku system. You think this is an attempt to increase productivity by growing livestock, growing wheat and root vegetables and farming without creating complete fallow land"
The Sanjuku system is an old method of farming that is learned in schools in modern times, but in this world it will be the most advanced technology.
Originally, when something called agriculture continues to grow the same crop on the same land, the nutrients and ingredients in the soil become more and more biased and crop production falls. It's called a dysfunction. The harm caused by this succession has itself been well known for a long time in the southern continent, and it was common to give the land a rest every year.
That was around the West, where incomplete but triple farming emerged from the search for ways to rest the land while keeping livestock, specifically horses. Also referred to as nomadic agriculture. It was from here that Sanjuku farming was born. Against that background, there may be the activity of agricultural researchers at the Royal Institute, but Horwood and others were simply surprised because of their unprofessional nature.
We are currently in the middle of a trial and error in Mortarn territory in search of further ahead of the Sanjuku system, but so far we have not been informed of this area at the lower end.
"Are you doing well?
"It's only been a few years since I started, but so far they're doing well. When it comes to seniors, there's a disagreement between Pais, who wants more cows and goats, and Shiites, who want more pigs and sheep."
"Why is that again?
"Mr. Glasage said the battle between milk and booze."
It was unanimously decided to colonise livestock when land was incorporated that could be farmed relatively better on Mortaire territory. But opinions broke over what kind of livestock to increase.
Pais strongly pushed livestock, especially cattle, capable of producing milk. When it comes to derivatives such as cheese and yogurt, the nurturing of the dairy industry was a line that could not be conceded as a paste.
On the other hand, the adults, starting with Shiites, strongly pushed pigs in particular, with a view to producing sausages and bacon. Pigs grow fast and also produce a lot of meat. It was a fact that even Pais admitted that pig farming was excellent if he simply considered the efficiency of agriculture or the efficiency of land use.
Pais claiming that cattle should be raised to make dairy products and Shiites claiming that pigs should be raised to make meat processed products.
When it comes to what this difference was made, it is the difference between Pais, who wanted to make sweets out of milk, and the soldier who wanted to make the liquor of his choice.
It's not really crap if you know the inside story, but it's about hobbies, so there's definitely no folding. It is an uncompromising, benevolent battle.
In the end, both opinions are compromised. This dispute is now in Kokan state. Under the water, the fighting continues because Pace is showing a gradual move to increase the number of cattle.
"Pretty much everyone works alive."
"Yep. That's it already"
From the view of the middle-aged man, the peasants working in Mortairn territory are seen to smile more than those who have seen them along the way all the way before. What difference does it make when the content of the job itself seems to make no significant difference?
It is the researcher's sexuality that persists when in doubt.
"As a researcher, I just want to know why. It's disgusting to see only the results and not the process"
"I'm not familiar with myself either, if you like from what I've heard"
"Of course. Tell me"
"One is simply that taxes are cheap. There is no church tax in Mortairn territory, nor do unreasonable instruction. When they mobilize, they take care to be idle, and they play the price."
"Heh."
Land ruled by a faithful lord, for example, imposes both a tax on the lord who owns the land and a tax on the church. This is common sense in this world, and land like that is more overwhelming.
Lords' taxes are also less for the Mortairns to do their own business and make money, but many try to squeeze as much as they can elsewhere.
Kamado Tax, Water Car Tax, Land Tax, Road Tax, Forest Use Tax etc. Some territories take taxes such as marriage taxes.
Mortarn territory is a periphery, always understaffed and has a policy of actively embracing migration. For that reason, it's a big policy to keep taxes simple and low.
"The other thing is that there are a lot of migrants"
Does that make sense?
"Of course not."
Mortairn territory, which has managed to open up lands where people cannot originally live. Residents are almost all migrants. The upper management sees this unexpectedly leading to an increase in happiness.
Man, happiness is an absolute value. Whether you feel happy or not is not a number from the outside. Some people feel unhappy even when they're making money, and others feel unhappy even when they're surrounded by warm families.
But the very thing about happiness is that there are many people who judge relative.
When even higher-income people are dissatisfied with their income, they look at more earned people and think so. Alternatively, parents who are dissatisfied with their very normal children are dissatisfied compared to their better children elsewhere.
When you feel you are blessed, it is rare that there is an appraisal tangent within you. Often I realize that I am blessed to have a person below me.
I know it's not a compliment, but it's the story of this world that has so many people like that as a reality.
That is why in other territories and elsewhere, for example, policies are also carried out that dare to put slaves as rebels in a hostile environment and divert popular dissatisfaction from them by exposing them.
The general public gets the same “comparable" information by constantly accepting migrants, even if they do not try to do so, even though they do not do anything to comfort others by leaving their misfortunes unattended in Mortarn territory. Experienced people tell terrible stories about other territories. They tell us from the bottom of their hearts that it is good to come to Mortairn territory.
When we hear that, the inhabitants of Mortairn territory say they realize that it is a very privileged environment. It seems that this contributes to an increase in happiness.
It can be said that Mortairn is unique to lay good governance and free movement of information.
"Hmm, that's really interesting."
I'm sure I will speak ill of my former predicament and speak loudly of the splendour of my new predicament. That was easy to predict for Horwood as well.
"There's a lot more...... Oh, for now, I'm overnight there today. We'll continue the conversation at night."
"Looking forward to it."
One line of accommodation is in the heart of the Eastern region. It was originally established as the capital of Liptauer territory. Here, too, it has been lively in recent years and is undergoing large-scale development. In particular, the Nata Chamber of Commerce funded accommodation.
Fourteen luxury inns for nobility, two intermediate inns for general millionaires, and five inns for the masses, two hundred and thirty. After staying in these inns, such as in the dining halls and taverns, when the large merchants arrive, only the blind will travel to the Mortairn capital of Zarsden.
Though Zarsden also maintains inns and taverns, the land cannot dig wells. The Eastern region is therefore better suited to accommodate large numbers of guests and horses. Horses and others drink many times more water than humans, so when a group of merchant class came in the past, the water level of wells in Zarsden dropped terribly, and the experience of imposing water intake restrictions on the inhabitants has taken this form.
The day after dawn, a line of researchers finally enters the main part of Mortairn territory.
It would be the hardest part of the road to cross the mountain, and there are places where the carriage can only be so wide as to be faintly different.
When we crossed the river, what was spreading there was vast agricultural land.
"Wow..."
Horwood's surprise is not a vast piece of agricultural land to look at. Maintained waterways and roads just to support it. Whether it is the eye shape of an Acer board, or a field that is really delineately separated, there is even a geometric beauty.
Is it a neat, cut beauty that arises because we have maintained where there was nothing originally? Is it artificial but the late functional beauty? Exclamation leaks into a landscape that feels few books, rather than farmland that is complicated and subdivided like elsewhere.
"From here we will go to the new village, pinch the break and then go to Zarsden. From there, Mr. Pais will show you around."
"Huh? Master Pastry is right away?
"Yes."
Horwood is a nobleman. However, it stands further beside the side system, and I am surprised by the “lightness“ of the Mortairn family just because I know the exacting identity difference of my parents.
Speaking of Pais, the next successor to the Mortairn family. It is the son of a son. Anyway, a position to inherit all of this majestic landscape. I'm not supposed to be in a position to move lightly, but they say they'll guide themselves. This is honestly a delightful story.
"Let's go then"
As declared, after passing through the new village, in Zarsden it joins Pais.
The boy, when he saw Horwood and the others, opened his hands and showed them welcome.
"Welcome. You're both welcome."
"Deliberate welcome. Painful."
It was Horwood showing a tough salute, but Pace laughs that such a thing is useless.
"From now on, you're one of us. I'm a compatriot. We'll have a welcoming party later, but let's hurry up and show you the new building."
"New building?
"We've expanded the building to keep it confidential. To make you feel at home. The place there, so far, is a secret, so I'll travel by my magic. In case there's a tail, then I can't follow you."
"I see."
I thought Pro Hol and others would say something amazing right now, but wise he wouldn't say it.
From the spot, Pais and the other two travel [instantly] just as quickly as possible.
The place I came to was a well-equipped building. Is it about three stories tall? From the outside, there's no such thing as a philosophy, it just looks like a box.
This building has magic measures in place, so it cannot be moved directly inside. Even the magic of Pais is no exception. For this reason, everyone enters the building blaming the digital delio that looks up to the exterior.
Some of the buildings are equipped to make the main produce candy, and of course private rooms are available. There are even showers and lodging facilities, so if you feel like it, you can pull it off and live here. How much money did you hang? Outpatient groups are often surprised.
"This is your castle."
In one room with a sweet scent, a laboratory with four rooms available.
This was the whole of the Moltern Territory Institute.
