As he spoke, the elevator doors opened with a ’ding’ at that moment.
"Please follow me," Old Zhang led Chi Wen forward.
After walking down a long corridor and turning a corner, he pointed to the ward ahead and said, "There, he’s in the room at the very end of the corridor on the right-hand side, you’d better go check on him."
Chi Wen nodded, quickening her pace as she walked in.
Coming to the door of the ward, the door was ajar with no glass window, so she couldn’t see what was inside.
She raised her hand and cautiously twisted the doorknob. With a slight ’click’, the door opened.
At the instant the door opened, she froze in place.
Inside, it was pitch-black, and there was no one on the hospital bed.
The eerie setting in the room set off alarm bells in her mind.
Upon closer inspection, through the light streaming in from the street lamp outside, she vaguely saw a silhouette sitting on the sofa.
She widened her eyes, her hand reaching for the light switch by the door.
With a flick, the light came on.
Gazing intently, the person sitting on the sofa was none other than Lu Jihan!
"Lu, Mr. Lu?"
Chi Wen blurted out, yet suddenly realized that this was indeed a setup, Song Huaizhong didn’t have a sudden brain hemorrhage at all.
And she had fallen into Lu Jihan’s trap!
He had set the trap for her, waiting at the sanatorium like a predator lying in wait, while she walked right into it without realizing it was a trap.
It seemed that Lu Jihan had already uncovered her true identity!
Her heart skipped a beat, and instinctually, she turned to leave.
But just as she turned around, Shen Kang was there blocking her path outside the door.
"Chi Wen, do you really think you can escape?" Lu Jihan’s deep voice came from behind, chilling like a voice from hell, sending shivers down her spine.
Yet, Chi Wen was clever and didn’t panic.
She rolled her charming eyes and feigned ignorance, "Well... Mr. Lu, I’m not trying to escape, I was just... just startled by you."
"If you haven’t done anything wrong, what are you afraid of? Sit down, Mr. Lu wants to talk to you," Shen Kang said coldly, forcing her back into the ward.
Seeing that escape was futile, Chi Wen simply stopped trying. She bit her lip and sat down on the sofa.
"Mr. Lu, why are you here?" she continued to pretend not to know.
"Of course, to find you."
Lu Jihan got straight to the point, without any detours:
"Chi Wen, confess honestly, tell me all your secrets, you know you can’t escape today."
Chi Wen bit her lip: "Mr. Lu, I... I don’t know what you’re talking about..."
"Let me put it differently, what is your relationship with Song Huaizhong, speak quickly!" Lu Jihan tensed his jaw and asked in a deep voice.
"Song Huaizhong? Mr. Lu, I don’t know what you’re talking about."
"Hmph! Seems like you won’t shed a tear until you see the coffin!" Lu Jihan looked up at Shen Kang, signaling with his eyes, "Shen Kang, let her listen!"
"Yes!"
Shen Kang nodded, pulling out his phone, tapping the screen.
The next second, a recording played from Shen Kang’s phone—
"Yes, I am a friend of his daughter, I was once helped by their family, he is like a father to me, so I want to take care of him for his daughter."
Chi Wen’s heart jolted, recognizing it as the words she had said earlier when Old Zhang asked about her and Song Huaizhong’s relationship at the hospital.
Her mind buzzed, realizing things had gone south.
It turned out Old Zhang had betrayed her and even recorded her!
