Chapter 840: Completely Losing Her Composure
She was startled and instinctively wanted to scream.
However, the person covered her mouth and lowered his voice, saying, "Don’t make a sound! Miss Shana, it’s me!"
Shana recognized the voice—it was Amu!
She hadn’t had time to turn on the light; the surroundings were very dim.
Seeing that she didn’t scream, Amu let her go.
In the dim light, Shana saw Amu walking barefoot to the window, looking out through the gap in the curtains for a long time, then he said, "They have finally come."
They?
What is he talking about?
Shana looked bewildered.
Just as she was about to ask, the sound of shattering glass came from outside, followed by the rapid staccato of gunshots.
Shana was so scared that her hands and feet went limp, and she scrambled and crawled toward Amu.
"Amu, who is it? Who are they..."
Before she could finish her sentence, Amu had already crouched down swiftly, reaching out to grip her ankle and pulling hard.
Shana lost her balance and fell to the ground, and then Amu rolled over, throwing himself on top of Shana.
For a moment, Shana hadn’t realized what had happened when bullets, with a scorching breath, whizzed past her ear, sparking a line of flames across the floor.
Then came several dull thuds, like firecrackers muffled by a quilt.
Bang bang—
Crack—
Crash—
The mirror on the bedroom vanity was hit, making a chilling shattering sound, and glass shards scattered everywhere.
The body pressed on Shana shuddered visibly.
"Amu, what’s wrong with you?" Shana struggled to get up.
"Don’t move!" Amu softly rebuked, pressing hard on Shana, "Do you want to die?"
Shana also lowered her voice: "Who are those people? What do they want?" Sana was terrified.
Amu immediately covered her mouth, whispering, "Don’t talk!"
His voice was extremely low yet unusually calm.
Shana was completely panicked, obediently closing her mouth.
Amu dragged Shana, moving gradually to the dead corner behind the wardrobe, then leaned close to Shana’s ear and said, "It’s Sha Dong; he’s finally making his move!"
Regarding Sha Dong, Shana knew a little, knowing he was her father’s rival.
But she never expected Sha Dong to disregard the law and initiate a revolt.
Her first thought was of her parents, and she made to get up, "I need to find my dad and mom!"
"Do you want to die? Don’t go!"
Amu shouted, grabbing her tightly to stop her from running out.
"If you go out now, you’ll be walking into a death trap. If they capture you, you’ll become a strong bargaining chip against your father!"
Shana was stunned but couldn’t deny that Amu made sense.
Soon after, the sound of a car engine outside disappeared.
All around was an eerie silence, with only the clear sound of waves crashing in the distance audible.
Shana’s back was pressed against the wall, her whole body trembling, her ears filled with the sound of her heartbeat and their breathing.
She wanted to hold Amu’s hand but felt a cold piece of metal instead.
In the moonlight filtering through the curtain gap, Amu was exceptionally calm as he pressed the magazine into the gun’s chamber, opening the safety and pulling the slide with a clack.
Shana stared dazedly at Amu’s obscured features; these actions certainly didn’t come from someone new to handling firearms but from countless hours of rigorous training.
Over the past years, Amu had been her personal guard, but this was the first time she’d seen such a grave expression on his face.
