System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

April 16th, Friday, the beginning of late April.

The trauma center’s duty rotation is every three days, and it was now the turn for Lu Cheng, Dai Linfang, and Liu Nongqiu.

After finding out that Professor Qu Daowen and Associate Professor Dong Liumeng didn’t want to "eat without contributing," Lu Cheng privately adjusted the scheduling.

Professor Qu Daowen, being the most competent, is best trusted to oversee Du Hua’an and He Dongsheng, the new trainees, during the day shift.

Chen Fang is a seasoned attending physician, and though not as skilled as Lu Cheng, she actually has more experience than Dai Linfang.

Associate Professor Dong Liumeng, whose skill is relatively lacking, paired with Chen Fang, just happens to complement each other.

Lu Cheng specifically emphasized that Professors Qu Daowen and Dong Liumeng can be excused from night shifts; if any challenging patients appear at night in the trauma center, it’s simply unfortunate for the patient.

These two professors are eventually going to leave, and the patients in Xiangzhou would need the "luck" of having capable people available consistently for consultations.

It’s not solely relying on Professors Qu Daowen and Dong Liumeng to strive.

In practice, Lu Cheng sometimes also helps cover night shifts.

For instance, yesterday was the 15th, with plans for the trauma center to take over the emergency rescue room’s responsibility for spleen rupture cases on the 16th, Lu Cheng didn’t go home the entire night.

Dai Linfang and Liu Nongqiu arrived early at the trauma center: "Brother Lu, did you order breakfast?"

"I went to bed too late yesterday, as I was busy modifying a paper. By the time I got up, it was already 7:40."

Dai Linfang knew Lu Cheng was on duty last night, but the paper output from the project group needed revision, submission, and there is a new project requiring sequencing; he wasn’t much help, so he didn’t follow directly.

"Already ordered, Du Hua’an and He Dongsheng are inside eating, you should go as well."

"Initially, Director Tian called me saying he would come over, and take me to the emergency clinic for some explanation."

"Our trauma center assuming the reception for spleen rupture needs to be communicated to the clinic doctors," Lu Cheng explained.

"Alright!~" Dai Linfang immediately darted into the break room to eat.

The doctors rotating in the emergency surgical clinic weren’t Zhou Lü, Chen Faming, and the other two anymore; the three had completed their emergency rotations and returned to their specialties.

New to the emergency surgical clinic rotation are several, including gastroenterology’s Xie Gan’an, breast-thyroid surgery’s Deng Yue, and thoracic surgery’s Liang Duolin attending physicians.

At State Hospital, promotion quotas for vice-high are quite limited each year; professionals must queue for advancement.

Before queuing for advancement, one must have grassroots work experience and emergency work experience to qualify in order.

Lu Cheng has worked at grassroots level and spent time in county hospital’s emergency department, thus adding the buff where the resume is directly qualified!

The on-call last night was breast-thyroid surgery’s Deng Yue, a slightly plump young woman, carrying an aura of maternal presence.

Upon seeing gastroenterology’s Xie Gan’an, she bashfully said, "Brother Xie, thank you for your hard work; mainly, my husband must go to work, leaving no one to care for the kids at home, so I have to hurry back every time."

Xie Gan’an came early to take over the shift, understanding Deng Yue’s difficulties, having returned from maternity leave to rotate in emergency for promotion: "It’s no problem, Dr. Deng, you’ve worked hard."

"I left to handle some car damage this morning, and headed out by 6:30."

"I’ve ordered some drinks, placed them in the break room for you to refresh, and will ask my mother-in-law to bring some local specialties when she returns in a couple of days."

Deng Yue wasn’t implying poor relations with her mother-in-law; it’s just that her mother-in-law’s father passed away, and the elderly must return to ’fulfill their filial duties.’

Her husband and she both have work, and her husband has already been back and forth several times.

Deng Yue also needs to work, with a toddler just a few months old, unable to apply for leave, thus temporarily inconveniencing Xie Gan’an to take over her shift.

Deng Yue and Xie Gan’an both turned to look at Lu Cheng with admiration but not surprise.

Yet, hearing it again from Tian Zhiliang, both still felt admiration.

Spleen preservation surgery is no minor procedure, it’s highly demanding and requires considerable learning effort.

Both gastroenterology and breast-thyroid surgery are subspecialties under the general surgery category, aware of how challenging spleen preservation surgery is.

At Lu Cheng’s age, being able to perform such a surgery is truly incredible.

Moreover, Lu Cheng indeed is quite young and accomplished.

Xie Gan’an smiled lightly, "Director Lu, the stronger the ability, the greater the responsibility, you will surely have more to endure in the future."
