Chapter 182 - 72: Zhao Xia and Yang Mei’s Mahjong, Zhong Mufeng’s Dinner
Jiang Li covered her face, unable to bear the sight. "Alright, hurry and get up. People will start talking if they see you."
"Let them talk. I don’t have any idol baggage to worry about."
Despite saying that, he still scrambled to his feet.
He leaned closer to the screen, flashing a smile that showed off his pearly whites. "So, my dearest sister, what can your humble servant do for you?"
Jiang Li desperately wanted to reach through the screen and ruffle Jing Jichuan’s hair.
He was like a Samoyed right now, so obedient.
A smile finally graced Jiang Li’s face. "It’s nothing, really. I just want you to have dinner with me tonight."
Jing Jichuan breathed a sigh of relief. He’d thought it was something serious, but it was just a dinner invitation.
’I’m the worst,’ he thought. ’How could I have suspected her of having some ulterior motive?’
To atone, he immediately agreed, "Okay, no problem. I’ll come and pick you up."
Jiang Li shot him down instantly. "No need to pick me up, I already have a ride. Just bring a gift."
’They’re having dinner with Zhong Mufeng. As her suitor, how could he possibly show up without a gift?’
’It wasn’t that she didn’t want to tell Jing Jichuan he’d be dining with Zhong Mufeng. She was just worried that if she told him in advance, he’d start pestering her again.’
’She remembered the last time—he had video-called her every ten minutes, asking what he should wear, which accessories to pick, what kind of cologne to use, and on and on.’
’So this time, she’d just let it be a surprise.’
’Let’s just hope it’s a pleasant surprise and not a nasty shock.’
Jing Jichuan nodded. "Sure, no problem."
’It’s just a gift. As it happens, I have a set of couple’s watches from a brand sponsorship. They’d be perfect for Jiang Li.’
Recalling Jing Jichuan’s fashion sense, Jiang Li repeatedly warned him, "Also, dress a little more maturely. If you don’t know how, hire a stylist. Don’t wear one of your childish hoodies."
Jing Jichuan pouted. "Sis, do you really find me that distasteful?"
Jiang Li nodded without the slightest hesitation. "Yes. Extremely."
’It was precisely because he dressed so childishly that Zhong Mufeng wasn’t romantically interested in him.’
’Honestly, Jing Jichuan was very handsome. It was just his day-to-day style that was so juvenile, making him look like he was seventeen or eighteen.’
’She had only seen him in a suit twice: once for his team’s victory banquet, and the other time just yesterday—and only because she had practically ordered him to.’
Jing Jichuan put on an aggrieved expression. "Sis, am I not your favorite little brother anymore? How could you look down on me like this!"
A chill ran down Jiang Li’s spine, and she shivered. "Alright, that’s enough. I’m hanging up. I’m not watching this act of yours."
Just as she hung up, the car came to a stop.
Xu Shijie spoke. "President Jiang, we’ve arrived."
He then got out, walked around to the rear passenger door, and opened it. With one hand on the car’s roof, he helped Jiang Li step out with the other.
After getting out, Jiang Li looked at Xu Shijie. "I’ll probably be here for a few hours."
The implication was that he was free to take on other fares in the meantime.
Xu Shijie nodded. "Understood. Just call me when you’re finished, and I’ll be right back to pick you up."
But just as Jiang Li got to the entrance, she ran into a bustling Zhou Jiawen.
Zhou Jiawen beamed. "Sister-in-law! What a coincidence! You just got here too!" she said, linking her arm with Jiang Li’s.
Jiang Li nodded. "Mhm. I wasn’t too far away when you called."
Zhou Jiawen grinned. "Perfect!"
But as her eyes landed on Jiang Li’s face, she stopped short. "Sister-in-law, your skin... how did it get so good?"
’I don’t remember it being this good yesterday.’
Jiang Li answered openly, "I had a spa treatment earlier."
Zhou Jiawen pouted. "And you didn’t even invite me."
Jiang Li patted the back of Zhou Jiawen’s hand. "Next time, I promise."
Seeing Zhou Jiawen was still pouting, Jiang Li couldn’t help but laugh. "Besides, your older brother was there. Even if I had invited you, I doubt you would’ve dared to come."
Zhou Jiawen shivered. "Now that you mention it... you’re right, I really wouldn’t have dared."
’With Shen Yanzhi’s face, which always looked like someone owed him millions, spending even one extra second near him felt like being in an icebox.’
’Her tolerance for stress wasn’t that high.’
Jiang Li simply smiled without a word, and the two went upstairs arm in arm.
Upstairs, they found that Zhao Xia and Yang Mei hadn’t arrived yet, but the two takeout meals Jiang Li had ordered were already there.
Seeing Jiang Li start to unpack one of the orders, Zhou Jiawen blinked in confusion. "You haven’t had lunch yet?"
Jiang Li explained, "Yeah, I fell asleep during the spa treatment and didn’t get a chance to eat."
Worried that Jiang Li might be starving, Zhou Jiawen immediately pointed to a nearby sofa, ushering her to sit. "Then you should eat quickly!"
