To go through life happy and carefree, without getting married or having kids.

Seeing Jing Shiyun frown, Jiang Li reached out to smooth the furrows from her brow. "Come on, don’t be upset! Maybe there will be good news soon!"

Jing Shiyun let out a silent sigh. "Don’t think I’m just nagging, but no matter what, you still need to be mindful of your spending."

Jiang Li nodded obediently. "I know!"

After Jing Shiyun and the others left, Shen Yanzhi pulled Jiang Li down onto the sofa. "What did Mom say to you just now?"

Jiang Li shrugged. "Oh, nothing. Just the usual nagging about having kids."

Shen Yanzhi was both amused and exasperated. "I didn’t think my mother-in-law would be in a bigger rush than my own mom."

After a moment, he added, "Though, for a second there, I thought you were going to tell her you’re pregnant."

"Let’s wait until the three-month mark. I’m worried Mom will make a big fuss if she knows now."

’She’s already nagging me about having a baby. If she knew I was pregnant, she’d probably forbid me from doing anything and everything.’

Finishing her thought, she glanced at Shen Yanzhi. "You, on the other hand... When I came downstairs earlier, I thought you’d told her and everyone. You really gave me a fright."

Shen Yanzhi chuckled. "You said to wait three months, so I had to obey your royal decree."

Jiang Li raised an eyebrow, surprised by his response. "I’m noticing you’ve been getting a lot more playful lately."

Shen Yanzhi’s lips curved into a slight smile. "Well, didn’t you complain to Zhong Mufeng that I was like a little old man? I had no choice but to change."

Jiang Li’s face instantly flushed crimson. "Hey! Why are you reading my chat logs?"

"I didn’t mean to," Shen Yanzhi explained.

Jiang Li planted her hands on her hips. "Don’t you know that a girl’s chat history with her best friend is off-limits?"

Shen Yanzhi raised his hand as if to swear an oath. "I’ll never look at your chat history again."

Jiang Li huffed and turned away. "Considering you’ve already done it once, your promise doesn’t count for much right now."

Shen Yanzhi asked with a sigh of resignation, "Then what do I have to do for it to count?"

A glint appeared in Jiang Li’s eyes as a plan formed in her mind. "We’re sleeping in separate rooms tonight."

Shen Yanzhi’s expression immediately darkened. "Absolutely not. Pick something else."

’If Jiang Li weren’t pregnant, it might be one thing, but she is. How could I possibly rest easy letting her sleep all by herself?’

Jiang Li clicked her tongue. "Fine. Go to the office tomorrow, then."

Shen Yanzhi nodded. "Deal."

As it happened, he needed to go to the office tomorrow to check on the renovations, so Jiang Li’s request was no skin off his back.

Since Shen Yanzhi had agreed, Jiang Li didn’t press the issue any further. "Let’s go out for a walk."

’Even though all I want to do is collapse into bed,’ she thought, ’pregnant women need to exercise more. It’ll make the delivery easier later.’

It was almost nine by the time they returned to their room after their walk.

She hadn’t paid much attention before, usually just collapsing into bed the moment they got back. But now, glancing around, she realized it looked quite different from when they’d left. "Is there a lot of new stuff in here?"

Shen Yanzhi nodded. "I had Xie Wan buy some maternity items."

Jiang Li looked at him in surprise. "You work fast."

Shen Yanzhi’s reply was completely serious. "When it has to do with you, I can’t afford to be slow."

Their gazes met in the air. Jiang Li felt herself almost burned by the heat in his eyes and quickly looked away, touching her hot ear. "When you say things like that, you might give me the wrong idea."

Shen Yanzhi’s Adam’s apple bobbed. "What wrong idea?"

"That you..." ’...like me.’

But before she could finish, a ringing phone cut through the silence. Jiang Li pointed to Shen Yanzhi’s pants pocket. "You should get that."

Shen Yanzhi nodded and pulled out his phone. It was Lu Zhi’an.

He answered, his tone sharp with annoyance. "This had better be important."

Lu Zhi’an’s anxious voice came through the phone. "Can you ask your wife if she can get in touch with Zheng Qi? She hasn’t streamed in three days, and she didn’t post any notice about taking a break. I’m worried something’s happened to her."

They were standing so close that even without speakerphone, Jiang Li could hear what Lu Zhi’an said.

Jiang Li immediately pulled out her phone and called Zheng Qi, but the call went straight to a message saying the user was unavailable.

Seeing this, Shen Yanzhi immediately put his call on speakerphone. Jiang Li said, "It’s ringing, but no one’s picking up."

"Do you have her address, then?"

Jiang Li shook her head, then, realizing Lu Zhi’an couldn’t see her over the phone, added verbally, "No."

Jiang Li tried calling again, but she still got the same message: temporarily unavailable.

"Okay, I get it."

The moment she heard that, Jiang Li called Xue Fan. "Do you have any contacts back in the country? Can you help me find out where someone is?"

Xue Fan replied without a second thought, "I can. Send me her name and a photo."
