Chapter 162 - 66: Guo Yao Is Beaten, Irreconcilably Opposed
"Who are you talking to?"
Hearing silence on Guo Yao’s end, Mr. Guo couldn’t help but ask.
Guo Yao asked, refusing to believe it, "Dad, you’re lying to me, right?"
’Jiang Li is just a little well-off. She can’t possibly have the power to bankrupt a publicly listed company in a matter of minutes.’
She even started to wonder if the man on the other end of the phone was really her father.
Mr. Guo clutched his chest. He didn’t need to think to know that Guo Yao was definitely involved in this. "Be honest with me. Did you offend someone?"
Guo Yao stammered, "N-No, I didn’t."
As the saying goes, a father knows his daughter best. Hearing Guo Yao’s hesitation, he knew he was right. "I don’t care if you did or not. Go apologize to them this instant. Otherwise, I’ll consider myself as not having a daughter, and you don’t ever have to come back."
Whether or not the company could be saved, making Guo Yao apologize was the right first step.
After all, an adult has to take responsibility for their own actions.
Hearing that he would disown her and that she couldn’t go home, Guo Yao nearly dropped her phone.
’So what’s Jiang Li’s deal, anyway?’
’But as far as I know, besides her family owning a supermarket, she has no other status. How on earth did she do this?’
’Could it be that mysterious husband of hers?’
She said reluctantly, "I get it."
After hanging up, she snapped at Jiang Li, "I’m sorry. I ran my mouth. Don’t stoop to my level."
Jiang Li scoffed. "And you call that an apology?"
Seeing this, the few people behind Guo Yao immediately pulled out their phones to check the news.
Once they saw the news that Guo Yao’s family had declared bankruptcy, the very people who had once been under her thumb started to chatter. "Who does she think she’s kidding, putting on airs like that? Her family’s bankrupt, but she still acts like she’s some great heiress!"
"Exactly! Strutting around like she’s all that, looking down on everyone. Well, look at her now. Her family’s bankrupt. Now she’s become the very person she used to despise."
"Someone like her deserves to be homeless, sleeping under a bridge. She should never be allowed to get back on her feet, or she’ll just go on to ruin more lives."
Jiang Li hadn’t expected Guo Yao’s little followers to be so vicious. ’Looks like they really put up with a lot from her,’ she thought. ’Otherwise, they wouldn’t harbor this much resentment.’
No wonder people say to kick a man when he’s down. She was seeing it firsthand.
She crossed her arms and settled in to watch the drama unfold.
Guo Yao spun around, staring at them in disbelief. "So this is what you really think of me!"
One of the women let out a derisive laugh. "If your family wasn’t rich, did you really think anyone would want to be friends with a person like you?"
Guo Yao’s anger flared. She sneered, "You certainly didn’t act this way when you were spending my money."
The woman snapped her fingers. "What are you all waiting for? Her family’s bankrupt now! It’s now or never!"
In an instant, they all swarmed forward, punching and kicking Guo Yao.
To avoid getting caught in the crossfire, Jiang Li quickly got up and moved to a different spot.
Getting hurt herself would be one thing, but if her baby was harmed, she’d be wracked with guilt for the rest of her life.
Truthfully, she hadn’t planned on taking things this far. After all, Guo Yao hadn’t caused her any actual physical harm.
But then, Guo Yao had to call her a "bitch."
She hated that word more than any other. Guo Yao had completely crossed the line.
Knowing Liu Qian would want to see Guo Yao get what she deserved, she even took a video and sent it over.
When Shen Yanzhi returned with his purchases, he saw that Jiang Li had moved.
He glanced over in confusion, just in time to see a group of people ganging up on Guo Yao.
Shen Yanzhi crouched down beside Jiang Li, tilting his chin toward the commotion. "What’s all this?" he asked quietly.
Jiang Li quickly summarized what had happened. Shen Yanzhi’s eyes narrowed. "Just bankrupting her family is letting her off too lightly."
Although she wasn’t sure what Shen Yanzhi was planning, Jiang Li immediately grabbed his wrist. "Hold on! We’re not about to commit any crimes, got it?"
Shen Yanzhi took a deep breath. He didn’t want Jiang Li to see his ruthless side.
He quickly presented the miniature flower arrangement he was holding. "I didn’t just get you a cake. I also bought you this preserved flower. It will never wilt."
The flower arrangement was miniature and exquisite—it completely stole her heart. "These can’t be cheap, can they?"
Shen Yanzhi smiled. "It wasn’t too expensive."
’Just a few tens of thousands. Compared to all the money Jiang Li had spent on him, it was nothing.’
