Chapter 160 - 65: Guo Yao’s Provocation, Bankrupting the Guo Family (Part 2)
Perhaps because it was Valentine’s Day, and right at dinnertime, the barbecue restaurant was pretty packed.
Every table inside was taken, and several groups were waiting outside.
Shen Yanzhi went to get a number. "There are five tables ahead of us. Let’s find a seat and wait."
He found a stool with a backrest for Jiang Li and helped her sit down. Then, he stood naturally to her side, like a valiant guardsman.
Thankfully, they were inside the mall, which had central air conditioning, so it wasn’t hot.
After a short wait, he worried Jiang Li might be getting hungry. "Should I go get you a bubble tea first?"
Jiang Li shook her head. "I don’t really want one."
Shen Yanzhi thought for a moment. "How about a little cake?"
Jiang Li was about to say no, but her stomach betrayed her with a loud RUMBLE.
She patted her stomach and grinned sheepishly. "Don’t get anything too big, or I won’t have room for the barbecue later."
Shen Yanzhi handed the ticket to Jiang Li. "Alright. You wait here for a bit. I’ll go get it now."
The moment Shen Yanzhi left, Guo Yao arrived with a group of people. She looked down at Jiang Li and asked condescendingly, "Well, well, if it isn’t Jiang Li. What are you doing here all alone?"
It was because of Jiang Li that she’d been forced to give even the last bit of her allowance to Feng Yuan.
Now Feng Yuan had skipped town, and when her father found out about her foolish mistake, he’d cut her allowance in half.
It’s true what they say: when enemies meet, sparks are bound to fly.
Seeing Jiang Li sitting there by herself, she couldn’t pass up the chance to ridicule her.
Jiang Li hadn’t allowed her classmates to record videos, take photos, or post on social media during her wedding. As a result, those who didn’t attend had no idea she and Shen Yanzhi were married, and that especially included Guo Yao.
Jiang Li had been looking down at her phone. When she heard the voice, she glanced up at Guo Yao.
She saw a group of men and women following behind her; some were dressed extravagantly, others were just dressed up to look the part.
She raised an eyebrow. "Not like you. With such a big entourage, I imagine your Valentine’s Day is quite lively."
She locked her phone, crossed her arms, and a faint smirk played on her lips. "But for all these people, not a single one of them brought you flowers. Guess you’re not as popular as you think."
Guo Yao started to retort, but then she glanced at the empty space around Jiang Li and clicked her tongue. "Listen to you. It’s not like you have any flowers either."
Jiang Li shrugged nonchalantly. "I don’t have flowers because I’m by myself right now. You don’t have flowers because no one likes you enough to get you any. There’s no comparison."
’Actually, Shen Yanzhi had asked her earlier if she wanted him to buy her flowers.
Her answer had been, "What’s the point of buying flowers? They aren’t practical. They’ll just die in a few days. You’d be better off spending that money on treating me to a nice meal."
Besides, it was Valentine’s Day, so flowers were double the usual price. It really wasn’t a good deal.
Still, she had immediately ordered a bouquet for Zhong Mufeng.
As Zhong Mufeng’s best friend, she deserved to have everything everyone else did.
If she didn’t have a boyfriend to give her flowers, then her best friend would.’
Guo Yao was seething. She jabbed a finger at Jiang Li. "Jiang Li! You’ve gone too far!"
Jiang Li’s eyes narrowed. "I hate it when people point at me. I suggest you put your hand down."
Guo Yao sneered. "I’ll point all I want. What are you going to do about it?"
Jiang Li shook her head, laughing to herself at Guo Yao’s ignorance.
She took out her phone, unlocked it, and called Liu Qian. "Here’s your chance. Ruin Guo Yao."
Hearing this, Liu Qian practically rubbed her hands in glee. ’She’d wanted to take down the Guo family for ages, but she’d never had the resources.
But things were different now. With an order from Jiang Li, it was time to settle all their scores, old and new.
She had no idea how Guo Yao had managed to offend Jiang Li, but Liu Qian felt like setting off fireworks to celebrate.’
Her voice was tinged with excitement. "Sister Jiang, don’t you worry. I’ll make sure everything is handled perfectly."
A small smile touched Jiang Li’s lips. "Good. Let me know if you need more funds."
’When it came to getting revenge on Guo Yao, Liu Qian was the only one she could trust to do the job.’
After Jiang Li hung up, Guo Yao scoffed. "Seriously, Jiang Li? Have you been watching too many of those cheesy web dramas? You really think you can bankrupt my family with one phone call?"
’She has no idea how much my family is worth. As if we could go bankrupt that easily!
So naive!’
Jiang Li shrugged. "Then I guess we’ll just have to wait and see!"
The man who had been standing behind Guo Yao the whole time chose this moment to step forward. He lifted his chin and asked, "Yaoyao, who’s this? What makes her so arrogant?"
Guo Yao snorted. "Just some college classmate. She has a little money, so she acts like she’s better than all of us."
A calculating glint flashed in the man’s eyes. "They say all meetings are destined. Since we’ve run into her, why don’t we all have dinner together later?"
