Chapter 81 - 39: Kyoto Bank, Cao Wenzhou
When Jiang Li woke up, she was completely disoriented, with no sense of time or place.
She reached out, fumbling for her phone on the nightstand, and unplugged it.
A glance at the screen showed it was 3:30 in the afternoon.
Jiang Li shot up in bed, but the sudden movement pulled on a certain sore spot, making her hiss in pain.
She flailed her arms and legs, punching the air in frustration as she couldn’t help but curse, "Jerk!!!"
But then she remembered how unusually forward she had been last night. ’Did Shen Yanzhi do something?’ she couldn’t help but wonder. ’Or did he drug me?’
Just as she was about to confront Shen Yanzhi, she noticed several unread messages on her phone.
As someone who couldn’t stand unread notification badges, Jiang Li tapped the red dot, and the chat screen for Zheng Qi immediately popped up.
Jiang Li opened the chat suspiciously. After reading the few messages from Zheng Qi, she was about to explode.
It turned out Zheng Qi had made a delivery mistake. He had sent her aphrodisiac incense meant for another client and was now apologizing profusely.
Jiang Li facepalmed in resignation. ’So that’s why I was so forward,’ she thought. ’It was the incense.’
But what was done was done. Blaming Zheng Qi wouldn’t change anything.
She replied that it was fine, then went back and opened her pinned chat to ask Shen Yanzhi when he would be home.
The seafood they bought yesterday wouldn’t be fresh if they didn’t eat it today.
The moment she sent the message, a video call from Shen Yanzhi came through.
On the other end of the call, Shen Yanzhi was dressed in a suit, his hair impeccably styled. He wore glasses and sat in an executive chair, staring intently at his phone screen. "Did you just wake up?"
Jiang Li cleared her throat awkwardly. "You still haven’t told me when you’re coming back."
’I refuse to answer that question.’
’We both went through the same ordeal, yet not only did he wake up before me, he even had the energy to go to the office.’
Shen Yanzhi shook his head with a helpless smile, his eyes filled with affection. "Did you forget something?"
Jiang Li blinked blankly. "Huh? What?"
Shen Yanzhi chuckled lightly. "Your parents are coming over for dinner today."
Jiang Li couldn’t help but slap her forehead. "Look at my memory. We just talked about this a couple of days ago, and I completely forgot."
’If Shen Yanzhi hadn’t reminded me, I really wouldn’t have remembered.’
She shot Shen Yanzhi a reproachful glare. "And you! Why didn’t you tell me sooner?"
Shen Yanzhi raised both hands in surrender. "It’s all my fault. I should have told you earlier."
"Well then, come home a little early and pick up some more groceries," Jiang Li instructed. "I only bought seafood yesterday."
Shen Yanzhi nodded. "I’ll be home in about an hour."
The implication being: you have one hour to get yourself ready.
Jiang Li covered her face. "Okay, I’m hanging up now."
’I just got up. I haven’t even had time to wash up, let alone get dressed and put on makeup.’
She sent a message to Xie Wan, then placed a quick order for some fruit.
Only then did she quickly get out of bed to wash up and change her clothes.
When she went downstairs to the dining room, the chef had already prepared a bowl of beef noodle soup.
Looking at the bowl brimming with noodles and topped with a thick layer of beef, Jiang Li couldn’t help but sigh in appreciation. "You really can’t beat the portion sizes at home."
Having not eaten for nearly a whole day, on top of expending so much energy last night, Jiang Li’s mouth started watering just from the smell.
Xie Wan, standing nearby, nodded in agreement.
’Are you kidding me?’ Xie Wan thought. ’You wouldn’t survive in this house if the portions weren’t big enough.’
Then, remembering something, Xie Wan asked, "Miss Jiang, some computer parts, clothes, and jewelry were delivered throughout the day yesterday. What would you like me to do with them?"
It didn’t register with Jiang Li at first, but then she belatedly remembered the things she had bought yesterday.
"Have a courier service come by later and take everything away," she said, slurping her noodles.
Xie Wan nodded without offering any opinion.
She was just the housekeeper; naturally, she did whatever Jiang Li said.
"Oh, right. My parents are coming over later. Could you see to getting the house ready?"
"Of course," Xie Wan said with a nod of understanding. "You go on and eat. I’ll go inform the others."
’Having a housekeeper is the best,’ Jiang Li mused. ’I don’t have to worry about a thing—just give the orders.’
After finishing her noodles and letting out a satisfied burp, Jiang Li finally headed upstairs.
She put on some makeup, picked out a soft, sophisticated outfit, and then called Jing Shiyun. "Hello? Mom, have you guys left yet?"
It sounded like Jing Shiyun was in the middle of a mahjong game. "Not yet."
Not wanting to hold up Jing Shiyun’s game, Jiang Li kept it brief. "Okay, I’ll send you the address in a bit. You and Dad should head over soon."
