The security guards looked at each other. "Ma’am, perhaps you should go to the hospital and get those cuts treated first?"

There were several scratches on her face and neck. Besides the scratches, the skin was also a bit swollen. If she didn’t get it treated at a hospital, there was no telling if it would get infected.

But Guo Yao was a stubborn mule. Right now, all she wanted was to see who the man was that went inside with Jiang Li.

As for the injuries on her face, they weren’t important.

It wasn’t like they were going to kill her, anyway.

’Isn’t Jiang Li only so brazen because she found herself a rich husband?’

’If I can find proof that Jiang Li is cheating, she’ll be finished.’

She put on her down jacket, zipped it up, and smoothed her somewhat messy hair.

Noticing the security guards were still nearby, Guo Yao asked irritably, "Aren’t you guys leaving?"

"We have to ensure your safety!"

If something happened to her, their salaries would be down the drain.

Guo Yao took a deep breath and forced a smile, but in the eyes of the security guards, it looked very strange.

"Don’t worry, I’m fine. I just want to go get something to eat."

Seeing that the guards still weren’t moving, Guo Yao said impatiently, "You heard me. I know them. That woman, Jiang Li, was my college classmate."

One of the guards asked a devastating question, "If you know her, why didn’t she come help you when you were getting hit?"

Guo Yao bit back her frustration and explained, "She’s just a weak woman. If she came to help, she would have just gotten beaten up along with me."

"But she had a male companion with her."

Guo Yao gritted her back teeth and demanded, "Are you guys done yet?"

"We’re just concerned about your health and well-being."

She pulled her undamaged phone from her bag. "How about I transfer some money to each of you, and you all just leave?"

The men looked at each other. "One thousand each."

Four people, even at 1,000 each, was only 4,000.

But getting proof of Jiang Li’s cheating—that would be a different story.

Not only would Jiang Li be kicked out of her home, but she might also have to face the wrath of a rich man.

Just thinking about it was motivating.

She had the guards pull up their QR codes, scanned 1,000 yuan to each of them, and then hurried toward the restaurant entrance without a moment’s delay.

The guards, having gotten their money, immediately dispersed. They didn’t care what Guo Yao did next; the money was in their accounts, so it didn’t matter if their wages were docked.

But before she could enter the restaurant, a waiter immediately stretched out an arm to block her. "You need to register for the waitlist."

Guo Yao’s hands, by her sides, clenched into fists. "I have friends eating inside. I’m with them."

The waiter pressed, "Then what table are they at?"

’How am I supposed to know what table Jiang Li is at!’

’If I knew, I would’ve rushed right in.’

She could only bite the bullet and reply, "I don’t know. She didn’t tell me."

"Then I’m sorry, but you can’t go in."

Guo Yao’s anger flared. "Is this how your restaurant treats its customers?"

"First, if you are here to dine, you are welcome."

"Second, you claim to have friends dining inside, yet you don’t know their table number. I therefore have reason to suspect you’re here to cause trouble."

"Finally, our hospitality is not for you to comment on. If there were a problem, other customers would have reported it."

Guo Yao was trembling with rage. She hadn’t expected a mere waiter to be so sharp-tongued.

Desperate to get inside, Guo Yao played her trump card. "Let me in, and I’ll give you 1,000 yuan."

Who knew the waiter would be so incorruptible? "Forget 1,000. Even if you offered me 100,000, if you don’t register today, you’re not getting through this door."

But this wasn’t a matter of integrity. There was a security camera right overhead. If the manager found out, the waiter would have to pay a penalty of ten times the amount.

If she took Guo Yao’s 1,000, she’d have to pay the restaurant 10,000. She’d have to be insane to take Guo Yao’s money.

Guo Yao never imagined a mere waiter would be so unyielding. But with no other choice, she said, "Then register me."

The waiter immediately put on a smile. "And your last name, ma’am? How many in your party?"

Guo Yao’s heart was as still as water. "Guo. Party of one."

The waiter tapped on a screen for a moment, then handed Guo Yao a numbered ticket. "Alright, you’re registered. Number A607. Please listen carefully for your number to be called."

Guo Yao took the ticket, her face a mask of despair. "How many tables are ahead of me?"

"Only six more! Please wait a moment!"

Fine, six tables it was. She refused to believe her luck was so bad that Jiang Li’s party would be done eating by the time she got in.

But as soon as she sat down on a stool, a sharp pain shot through her rear, and she immediately jumped back up.

"Jiang Li! I swear, you and I cannot coexist!"
