Xie Wan nodded. "I understand."

Only then did Jiang Li walk toward the elevators, satisfied.

After going upstairs and showing their invitation, the two of them headed toward the venue.

The event probably hadn’t started yet. The men, all in suits, were chatting in small groups.

The women, on the other hand, were in evening gowns, each one dressed to the nines as if they were at a matchmaking event.

Jiang Li glanced around but didn’t see anyone she knew.

She took her seat according to the number given by the staff. Just as she sat down, a man’s voice sounded beside her. "Excuse me, miss. Are you in the wrong seat?"

Jiang Li turned to see a man in his early thirties. He was dressed sharply enough, but the disdain in his eyes made her very uncomfortable.

She took out her number card. "I’m not sure if I made a mistake. Why don’t you check for me?"

The man glanced at the card, and his eyes instantly flew wide. He pointed a finger at her. "You... you... you..."

Jiang Li frowned. "I don’t like being pointed at. If you don’t lower your hand right now, I can’t guarantee what will happen next."

The man immediately lowered his hand and couldn’t help but gulp. "Which family’s young lady are you? How come I’ve never seen you before?"

After all, he had attended several charity auctions jointly hosted by Kyoto Bank and Fengdu Bank. He was practically a regular, yet he had never seen Jiang Li before.

The seat numbers were ranked according to personal assets. With Jiang Li ranked first, one could only imagine the fortune to her name.

Jiang Li narrowed her eyes. "And what does that have to do with you?"

The man smiled sheepishly. "They say every meeting is destined. I just wanted to get to know you, miss. I have no other intentions."

Jiang Li tilted her head and smiled, but her eyes were filled with ice. "But I have no interest in getting to know you."

’A guy like him wants to get to know me? He should take a good look at himself and know his place.’

’He wasn’t even fit to carry Shen Yanzhi’s shoes.’

Even after being rejected, the man kept the smile plastered on his face. "My beautiful miss, you don’t have to be in such a hurry to refuse."

’Are you kidding me? This was seat 001! If I could get on her good side, I could probably skip twenty years of hard work.’

’In the past, the person in seat 001 always had assets in the trillions, at the very least. Now that Jiang Li was number one, her financial power was not to be trifled with.’

Just as Jiang Li was about to have Xie Wan get rid of the man, Cao Wenzhou suddenly strode over from the side. "Miss Jiang, you’re here."

Jiang Li nodded. "Chairman Cao."

Cao Wenzhou said with an apologetic look on his face, "My sincerest apologies. I had intended to come and greet you personally, but I got tied up with something else."

Jiang Li waved her hand dismissively. "It’s fine. It was just a short walk."

’It’s not like she was a three-year-old who needed an escort.’

His gaze landed on the man beside her, and he asked suspiciously, "You don’t seem to belong in this row, do you?"

This event was jointly hosted by Kyoto Bank and Fengdu Bank, after all; he knew exactly who was supposed to be in the front row.

Jiang Li had been worried about offending someone important, but seeing Cao Wenzhou’s attitude, she couldn’t help but say, "Chairman Cao, if you don’t know him, then have security show him to his proper seat!"

The man’s face flushed with embarrassment. "I’ll go myself."

He always networked this way before the auction started. He never expected to be so utterly humiliated this time.

At first, he had assumed Jiang Li was some tycoon’s mistress; it turned out she was the wealthy one herself.

’What a miscalculation. If only my attitude had been better, I wouldn’t have ended up in this mess.’

Even though Jiang Li hadn’t said a word, Cao Wenzhou had a good idea of what had just transpired.

He wiped a bead of sweat from his forehead. "Miss Jiang, my apologies. This was an oversight on our part. Please don’t be angry."

Jiang Li chuckled. "You make me sound so petty."

Cao Wenzhou awkwardly touched the tip of his nose. "It seems I was the one judging a noble person by my own petty standards."

He glanced at the time on the large screen. "The auction is about to begin. There’s a cocktail party afterward, and I do hope you’ll be able to stay for it, Miss Jiang."

"We’ll see."

’If she managed to win something she liked at the auction, then the cocktail party might be worth attending.’

’But if she didn’t win anything suitable, the party would probably be pointless. It was just an opportunity to network, after all.’

Although Jiang Li hadn’t agreed, she hadn’t refused either. Cao Wenzhou let out a silent sigh. "Very well, I’ll go attend to my duties then."

Jiang Li waved her hand. "Yes, go on."
