Chapter 156 - 64: No Blood Relationship, Gift Money
Ten minutes later, the man produced a paper report. "Sir, according to this report, you and this child are not related by blood."
Upon hearing the results, Shen Yanzhi immediately turned to Jiang Li. "Xiao Li, did you hear that? It has nothing to do with me."
Jiang Li couldn’t help but sigh in relief. ’Thank goodness Shen Yanzhi didn’t betray my trust.’
Song Ning, however, stumbled back two steps in disbelief. "How is that possible? I remember we..."
Shen Yanzhi held up a hand, cutting Song Ning off. "Regardless, this child isn’t mine, and there has never been anything improper between us. Now, it’s time to discuss compensation."
Jiang Li had already contacted Jiang Yuemo the moment Shen Yanzhi mentioned compensation. With a lawyer on site, she wasn’t the least bit worried about Song Ning disagreeing.
Song Ning, however, seemed trapped in a world of her own, muttering over and over, "How could he not be your child!"
Lu Zhi’an poked Shen Yanzhi’s arm. "Hey, has this woman lost her mind?"
Lu Zhi’an could say with confidence that during their years abroad, Shen Yanzhi had been incredibly self-disciplined and had never once messed around with women.
He was almost always surrounded by men; even most of his company’s employees were male.
At one point, he’d even wondered if Shen Yanzhi wasn’t straight.
But Shen Yanzhi had declared with the utmost gravity, "I’m saving myself for Jiang Li and eliminating any possibility of getting involved with anyone else."
’He really deserved to have a wife.’
Now that it was clear Shen Yanzhi and Song Nian had no connection, Jiang Li gestured with her chin toward Song Ning. "Jiang Yuemo, go take care of this."
Jiang Yuemo nodded. "Of course, President Jiang."
After the scene Song Ning had caused, Jiang Li had lost her wedding spirit.
’Anyway, the rings are on and we’ve kissed. I even hired a pop star to perform. I might as well just treat this as a concert.’
She crooked a finger at Shen Yanzhi, who immediately bent down to lean closer.
Jiang Li cupped her hands around his ear and whispered a few words. Then, she patted his shoulder, motioning for him to take care of it.
A few minutes later, after the on-stage performance had ended, the emcee tapped the microphone. "Ladies and gentlemen, I’m sure you’re all wondering how that little drama from before is going to conclude."
Once he had everyone’s attention, he continued smoothly, "According to a professional institutional analysis, Mr. Shen and Miss Song’s son share no blood relationship whatsoever. Mr. Shen is innocent, and Miss Song was spreading slanderous rumors."
The moment he finished, the entire hall erupted in an uproar.
"Oh my God, I really thought Shen Yanzhi was a scumbag. I can’t believe there was a twist like this."
"How did Song Ning even dare? She was so adamant before, I actually thought she was telling the truth. Turns out it was all just some obsessive fan’s delusion."
"She thought she’d had her crush’s baby, but it turns out she doesn’t even know who the father is. If I were her, I’d be too embarrassed to ever show my face in Capital City again."
Seeing the discussion getting heated, the emcee clapped his hands. "Alright, now that the truth is out, let’s welcome Zhou Huainan to the stage with his performance of ’A Song of Love’!"
If Song Ning’s slanderous accusations were a bombshell, then Zhou Huainan’s appearance was an even bigger one.
After all, Zhou Huainan was the hottest star of the moment, and his appearance fees were typically calculated by the minute.
With that, the crowd’s conversation shifted. They were no longer focused on Song Ning, but on speculating just how much money Jiang Li and Shen Yanzhi must have.
After all, the banquet hall alone must have cost a fortune, not to mention Jiang Li’s wedding gown and her traditional Qipao.
And now, on top of all that, they’d hired a top-tier celebrity. They were truly spending money like it was water.
Jing Shiyun cleared her throat, a little embarrassed. "Xiao Shen, Mom was too quick to judge earlier. Please don’t take it to heart!"
Shen Yanzhi waved a hand. "Of course not. You only said that because you were looking out for Xiao Li. I understand. You and Dad have nothing to feel embarrassed about."
Jiang Bowen let out a heavy sigh. "I know I already said this during the ceremony, but I feel I must say a few more things now."
"I, Jiang Bowen, have only this one daughter, Jiang Li. Since she was a child, I’ve doted on her as the apple of my eye. It may not have been to the point where she was waited on hand and foot, but I truly did hold her in the palm of my hand, afraid she would fall; I held her in my mouth, afraid she would melt."
Jiang Li had been thrilled by Zhou Huainan’s arrival, but upon hearing her father’s words, she couldn’t stop the tears from pattering down her cheeks.
