Chapter 170 - 68: Fight in the Private Room, Hiring Private Bodyguards
Shen Yanzhi ruffled Jiang Li’s hair. "I’m sorry. If it weren’t for..."
Jiang Li placed a finger on Shen Yanzhi’s lips. "Weren’t you the one who said it? We’re a married couple."
Meeting Shen Yanzhi’s questioning gaze, Jiang Li spoke again. "There’s no need for ’thank you,’ which means there’s definitely no need for ’I’m sorry.’"
Shen Yanzhi chuckled. "Alright. I won’t say them anymore."
’If I could, I would have even said I love you.’
Even though they were up against eight men, four of them mercenaries, it hadn’t been the least bit challenging.
After they had subdued all the men, Jiang Li immediately dialed 911. "I said I’d let you go, but you came back looking for trouble. So don’t blame me for taking this to the authorities."
Seeing Jiang Li about to call the police, the man with the full beard immediately dropped to his knees and begged. "Don’t! Please, miss, I’m begging you, don’t call the cops!"
Jiang Li’s finger, which had been about to press the dial button, froze. She looked at the men. "Then give me a reason not to."
"Don’t you want to know why we came for you?"
Jiang Li shrugged. "What other reason could there be? It’s because of a woman, obviously."
Another man immediately chimed in, "She’s in our private room right now. We tied her hands and feet. You can do whatever you want with her."
Jiang Li raised an eyebrow. "We live in a society with laws, you know. Are you trying to get me thrown in jail?"
"As long as you don’t call the police, we’ll pretend we don’t know a thing!"
"Yeah, we just came here for dinner tonight. Nothing else happened."
"That’s right. I just came out for some barbecue with the guys. Never saw you, never saw anyone else."
Jiang Li glanced at Shen Yanzhi, asking for his opinion with her eyes.
Shen Yanzhi’s expression turned serious. "Do you have a way to send her abroad?"
The man with the full beard puffed out his chest. "Guaranteed! We’ll ship her out of the country tonight and turn her into a whore for thousands of men to ride!"
He couldn’t make promises about other things, but sending someone abroad? That was practically a sure thing.
Shen Yanzhi nodded. "Let’s exchange contact information. When it’s done, I want to see the full video."
"Don’t you worry. We’ll do a clean job, so clean the cops won’t find a thing no matter how hard they look."
The chance to get Guo Yao sent abroad without getting his own hands dirty was something Shen Yanzhi was more than happy to see happen.
After they exchanged contact information, he finally let the men leave.
Before they left, he had them carry away the staff member they’d knocked unconscious in the private room.
Once the eight men were gone, Jiang Li and the others took their seats.
Jiang Li’s gaze kept lingering on the four men, making Shen Yanzhi a little jealous.
But he couldn’t win a fight against those mercenaries, and he couldn’t bring himself to scold Jiang Li, so all he could do was sulkily place pieces of food on her plate.
With something on her mind, the barbecue tasted like wax to Jiang Li. Finally, she couldn’t hold back any longer. "Can I be bold and ask you all a question?"
The man sitting next to her looked up. "If you know it’s bold, then maybe you shouldn’t ask."
Jiang Li grinned and batted her eyelashes. "How much do you guys make in a month?"
But none of the four men answered, acting as if they hadn’t heard her at all, which left Jiang Li feeling a bit dejected.
However, thinking of her own safety, Jiang Li put down her utensils and took a deep breath. "Let me put it another way. Would you be willing to be our private bodyguards? The pay is ten million a month. You’d only need to protect us when we go out. You could still take other missions in your free time."
Shen Yanzhi’s hand, which was grilling some meat, twitched. ’Ten million a month per person... that’s forty million for all four. That’s a considerable expense over a year.’
’Still, if it means protecting Jiang Li, forty million a month is worth it.’
’I was here tonight, but what if I hadn’t been?’
’Thinking about it that way, hiring them as bodyguards is a very wise choice.’
’It all just depends on whether they’re willing.’
Seeing their varied expressions, Jiang Li dropped another bombshell. "If you agree, I can even open a security company in your names. You would be in charge of all its operations."
’Why do people become mercenaries?’
’For the money, of course!’
’Now I’m offering not only money but power, without all the constant fighting and killing. Even an idiot would know what to choose!’
In truth, the idea had come to her on a whim. But she was afraid of encountering another situation like the one tonight, which was why she thought of hiring them as her private bodyguards.
It was one thing when she didn’t have a child, but now that she was pregnant, she found herself valuing her life a lot more.
"You can all think it over carefully. There’s no rush to give me an answer."
