Chapter 102 - 46: Collaboration with Gu Mingyuan
Jiang Li had expected Mr. Gu to be like the CEOs in novels, wiping the stool and table over and over again with a tissue.
But he just sat right down, showing no signs of discomfort.
Jiang Li took a sip of hot tea, feeling warmth gradually return to her body. Only then did she remark with some surprise, "I didn’t expect you to be so adaptable, Mr. Gu."
Gu Mingyuan said calmly, "It’s a place to eat. There’s no distinction between high and low class, so what’s there not to be adaptable about?"
Jiang Li nodded. "Alright. Just for that, I’ll invest in your project."
Before Gu Mingyuan could even process his shock, Jiang Li pressed on, "How much money do you need for the initial phase?"
Gu Mingyuan swallowed hard. He thought it wouldn’t be so easy to secure the deal, but he had succeeded just like that.
He pushed up his glasses. "We’ll need about 10 billion."
Jiang Li snapped her fingers. "Okay. Get a hard copy of the contract ready. As soon as it’s signed, the money will be there."
Gu Mingyuan shot to his feet. While Jiang Li was still looking confused, he gave her a deep, 90-degree bow. "Miss Jiang, on their behalf, I thank you in advance."
Jiang Li rubbed the back of her neck, a little embarrassed. Before she could say a word, Gu Mingyuan added, "Miss Jiang, please wait here for a moment. I’m going to print the contract right now." Then he turned and strode away purposefully.
’Since things have already gotten this far, I absolutely have to lock down this contract first.’
’Until the contract is signed, nothing is certain.’
’Even a sure thing can slip through your fingers, let alone an unsigned contract.’
’It’s a good thing I carry the company seal with me, or I really wouldn’t be able to sign with Miss Jiang in time.’
Jiang Li looked at Xie Wan, completely baffled. She pointed at Gu Mingyuan’s rapidly disappearing back. "Seriously? Is he in that much of a hurry?"
Xie Wan shrugged. "Until the contract is signed, nothing is set in stone."
"I don’t get it."
’It’s not like I’m going to run away. I don’t know what the big rush is about.’
Xie Wan retracted her gaze and cupped her teacup. "Right now, he’s like a man wandering in the desert who has just spotted an oasis. Of course he’s going to want to claim it as quickly as possible."
Jiang Li stared intently at Xie Wan for a long moment before asking, "Have you ever thought about changing jobs?"
Xie Wan understood immediately. Jiang Li wanted to bring her into her inner circle.
She stood up at once, her eyes sparkling. "I am honored by your offer, Miss Jiang. If there’s any way I can be of service, I won’t hesitate."
Jiang Li gestured for Xie Wan to sit down. "I’m very satisfied with your work. Would you be willing to become my personal assistant?"
"I’m willing!"
But in the next second, she deflated like a wilted vegetable. "However, I still have five years left on my contract with my company. I probably can’t become your personal assistant right away."
Jiang Li said, "That’s a small problem."
’If it’s something money can solve, then it’s not a problem at all.’
’It’s just a five-year contract. As long as I can pay the penalty for breach of contract, she can resign in minutes.’
She’d been observing Xie Wan for several days and found that not only was she meticulous and discreet, but she was also an excellent planner. For her to be just a housekeeper was a waste of her talents.
"As long as you’re willing, I’ll take care of it for you."
Xie Wan’s voice was a little choked with emotion. "I am willing."
’Jiang Li wasn’t the first person to offer to help her leave her job, but all the other offers had fizzled out.’
’But just because others couldn’t do it doesn’t mean Jiang Li can’t.’
’The fact that she’s bringing it up now means she recognizes my professional abilities.’
’That being the case, why would I refuse?’
’It’s obvious that Jiang Li can offer me a much bigger platform.’
"Alright, leave this matter to me."
’With Xie Wan around, my quest for a life of leisure has taken another step forward.’
Just then, the server arrived with fried rice noodles and egg fried rice. Jiang Li grabbed a pair of disposable chopsticks from the container, unwrapped them, and said, "Let’s eat."
Xie Wan was already starving. "Okay."
When Gu Mingyuan returned, the two had just finished their meal. He handed a contract to Jiang Li. "Here’s the hard copy I just printed."
Jiang Li took it and read it over carefully. After confirming it was identical to the digital version she had seen earlier, she took the pen from Gu Mingyuan’s hand and swiftly signed her name.
She signed both copies, then pulled a lipstick from her purse and used it to press her thumbprint onto the documents.
Jiang Li moved so quickly that Gu Mingyuan hadn’t even had time to take the ink pad out of his pocket.
She pulled a tissue from the dispenser, wiped her thumb, and took out her phone. "I’ll send you 20 billion for now. If that’s not enough, just ask for more."
The moment Jiang Li’s voice fell, a notification chimed on Gu Mingyuan’s phone: "Alipay transfer received: 20 billion yuan."
The corner of his mouth twitched. "Actually, we won’t need nearly this much."
