Chapter 1718: The Eighth-Tier Skeleton King
As he continued deeper into the fourth level, finding sword tombs was not particularly difficult with Despicable Donkey's guidance.
Because of what had happened with Wang Bodang, Ling Feng had been holding back a simmering frustration. More than ever, he wanted to grow stronger as quickly as possible.
Even so, he did not let impatience cloud his judgment.
As he traveled through the fourth level of the underground palace, the invisible sword pressure tempered him every moment. He could clearly feel the two Great Sword Wills within the depths of his Sea of Mind steadily growing stronger.
At this point, both had nearly reached a bottleneck.
Only a final push remained before they could advance from Advanced Sword Will to the Minor Perfection stage.
"Stop for a moment."
Suddenly, Despicable Donkey's voice rang out in his mind.
There was an unusual seriousness in his tone.
"Kid, I think we've stumbled onto something incredible this time!"
Despicable Donkey sounded rather pleased with himself.
"When the rewards show up, don't forget to save a share for me!"
Ling Feng rolled his eyes.
"You make it sound like you'd accept being left out."
"Hehe, the gains this time are going to exceed your wildest expectations!"
Drawing a deep breath, Despicable Donkey began directing Ling Feng toward a new destination.
Before long, following the donkey's senses, Ling Feng found a sword tomb unlike any he had seen before.
"Holy shit! This is an Ancestor-tier sword tomb!"
Despicable Donkey burst into loud laughter.
"Ling Feng, you've really hit the jackpot this time. An Ancestor-tier sword tomb!"
Ling Feng rubbed the bridge of his nose.
As far as luck was concerned, ever since the Sunset Heaven Selection, his fortune had already reached the level of a hundred-zhang Heavenly Dragon.
If someone with his level of fortune could be called unlucky, there probably weren't many lucky people left in the world.
"An Ancestor-tier sword tomb..."
Ling Feng gazed at the enormous sword monument before him, anticipation stirring within his heart.
If Despicable Donkey was right, then this tomb should contain the sword inheritance of an Ancestor-level expert.
An Ancestor-level expert!
To Ling Feng, even Sacred-tier experts were lofty figures he could only look up to.
As for Ancestor-level beings, they stood among the absolute pinnacle of the world.
"Hurry up and open it!"
Even Despicable Donkey sounded excited.
"An Ancestor-tier sword tomb might contain more than one treasure! Wakaka! Ling Feng, you've heard the saying, right? Finders share half!"
Ling Feng rolled his eyes.
"If it's a Sword Dao inheritance, it won't do you any good anyway."
"I don't care! This divine beast still wants it! Got a problem with that?"
Despicable Donkey's eyes gleamed.
Sword techniques and Sword Dao secret arts were indeed useless to him, but if the tomb contained treasures capable of strengthening physical vitality or spiritual consciousness, he would cling to Ling Feng relentlessly until he got his share.
Taking a deep breath, Ling Feng placed his palm on the monument just as he had done countless times before.
Suddenly, a terrifying chill surged toward him.
The freezing energy nearly turned his entire body into ice on the spot.
Ling Feng's eyelids twitched.
He immediately activated his Fourth-Phase Devouring Flame and dispersed the invading cold before channeling his Sword Will into the massive sword monument.
"Not good! Ling Feng, watch out!"
Despicable Donkey suddenly cried out in alarm.
Ling Feng immediately withdrew his hand.
At that moment, the sword tomb before him had already begun undergoing an abnormal transformation.
Creak! Creak!
The sound resembled a giant stone gate being forced open.
In the next instant, a chilling noise echoed through the air.
It sounded as though something had crawled out from the depths of the Nine Nether Hells.
Then, from within the cracked sword tomb, a ghastly white skeletal arm slowly emerged.
Only a single arm bone had appeared, yet it was thicker than Ling Feng's thigh.
One could easily imagine how enormous the entire skeleton would be once it fully crawled out.
"A Tomb Guardian Spirit!"
Despicable Donkey let out a low roar.
"Ling Feng, I forgot to tell you! Ancestor-tier sword tombs are usually protected by guardian spirits!"
"The hell do you mean you forgot?!"
Ling Feng cursed loudly.
The aura radiating from the guardian spirit filled him with an instinctive sense of dread.
"I've never encountered one before either!"
Despicable Donkey's voice trembled.
"Dammit! That thing is probably an Eighth-Tier Skeleton King! Damn it all, that's a Half-Saint level monster! Move! Kill it before it fully crawls out!"
Despicable Donkey practically screamed.
His voice was filled with panic.
"Kill it?"
The corner of Ling Feng's mouth twitched violently.
A Half-Saint level Skeleton King?
This damn donkey had to be joking.
Even so, Ling Feng acted immediately.
He drew the Bow of Yi and took out three Bloodthirsty Soul-Chasing Arrows.
The power of eighty Dragon-Elephant Divine Strengths erupted to its limit.
Three arrows shot forth simultaneously.
Whoosh!
Whoosh!
Whoosh!
Three piercing sounds tore through the air.
Dark-golden streaks of light cut across the void like tangible rainbows, carrying terrifying destructive force as they slammed directly into the Skeleton King's skull.
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
Sparks exploded in every direction.
All three Bloodthirsty Soul-Chasing Arrows were violently deflected.
The enormous skull remained completely unharmed.
Ling Feng sucked in a cold breath.
An immortal artifact-grade bow combined with eighty Dragon-Elephant Divine Strengths had failed to leave even the slightest mark.
"ROAR!"
The Skeleton King unleashed a thunderous roar.
It felt as though tens of thousands of tons of explosives had detonated simultaneously throughout the void.
The resulting shockwave blasted outward.
Ling Feng was thrown backward more than a dozen steps by the violent gale alone.
He immediately thrust the Eradicator of Realms into the ground.
The blade carved a long trench across the stone floor before he finally managed to steady himself.
"Damn it!"
Ling Feng swallowed hard.
This was a Half-Saint Skeleton King.
Not only that, it was an ancient Half-Saint Skeleton King from a bygone era.
How could someone at his level possibly hope to fight such a monster?
