Chapter 1766: A Battle with This Sword Saint
After a long silence, Ling Feng took a deep breath and slowly lifted his head.
He had made his decision. If he could only keep one, then he would never abandon the Blood of the Emperor.
Clarity returned to his eyes.
Taking another slow breath, Ling Feng regained his composure.
"Oh? You've decided so quickly? I thought you would struggle with it much longer," the Great Desolation Sword Saint said. He smiled faintly before looking at Ling Feng. "So, you've made your choice?"
Ling Feng nodded. "I have. If inheriting the Ancestor-Dragon bloodline means losing my own bloodline, then I choose not to accept your inheritance."
The Blood of the Emperor was the foundation that had carried him this far. From having nothing at all to standing where he was today, every step of his journey had depended upon the Blood of the Emperor.
There was no way he could abandon it. In a sense, the Heavenly Dao Clan's bloodline might even surpass the Ancestor-Dragon bloodline. Otherwise, why would the so-called immortals and divine beings have feared the Heavenly Dao Clan so deeply? Why had the Heavenly Dao Clan once ruled the Immortal Domain?
Even all Ten Great Ancestor-Dragons together had only accomplished what the Heavenly Dao Clan had once achieved.
The Great Desolation Sword Saint chuckled. "Heh. You have surprised me, young man. You were actually able to resist the temptation of the Ancestor-Dragon bloodline. It seems you have tremendous faith in your own bloodline."
Then he smiled again and continued, "Fortunately, you have cultivated the Eight Desolations Body Refinement Art. In that case, allowing both bloodlines to coexist isn't completely impossible."
Ling Feng nearly cursed aloud. "Damn it..."
He had agonized over this decision, torn between the two choices, only for the old man to casually announce that both bloodlines could coexist. Was he deliberately messing with him?
"Heh. Young man, were you just cursing me?" The Great Desolation Sword Saint looked at Ling Feng with obvious amusement. A teasing smile hung at the corner of his lips.
Ling Feng laughed awkwardly. "I wouldn't dare..."
Anyone in his position would have wanted to curse.
The Great Desolation Sword Saint nodded with satisfaction. "Hehe. I was merely testing your martial heart to see whether your conviction was firm enough and it seems you really are qualified to inherit my legacy. That said, whether you can actually obtain it still depends on your own ability."
Ling Feng drew a deep breath. His expression turned serious. "Please enlighten me, Senior."
The Great Desolation Sword Saint fixed his gaze upon Ling Feng. A flicker of battle intent appeared in his eyes as he said, "Draw your sword."
"Uh..."
For a moment, Ling Feng wondered if he had misheard. Did this old man actually want to pass on his legacy? Or was he simply bored and playing games with people?
The Great Desolation Sword Saint smiled playfully. "What? Are you afraid? Relax. We are only comparing swordsmanship. I won't bully the younger generation."
"Senior, I really don't know the meaning of fear."
Hearing that it would be a contest of swordsmanship alone, Ling Feng felt noticeably relieved.
No matter how powerful the Great Desolation Sword Saint had been in life, what remained now was only a remnant soul. After enduring tens of thousands of years, his power had undoubtedly diminished to a fraction of what it once was.
If Ling Feng still could not defeat him in swordsmanship under those conditions, then what right did he have to challenge the Heaven-Patrolling Clan? How could he ever hope to avenge the Heavenly Dao Clan?
Besides...
He still possessed the Eye of the Emperor.
It was practically a cheat.
If they were competing solely in swordsmanship, then even if the Great Desolation Sword Saint himself from tens of thousands of years ago stood before him, the odds would be no worse than fifty-fifty.
A surge of heroic spirit rose within Ling Feng's chest. "Come!"
How many people could only dream of crossing swords with an ancient Sword Saint?
The Great Desolation Sword Saint laughed loudly. "Excellent! I knew I hadn't misjudged you. You really are an interesting young man!"
