Chapter 226: Probability
Zhang Yi beamed and said, "Mr. Cheng, my name is Zhang Yi. I’m the leader’s secretary. Could we exchange numbers? My superior is quite busy, so if you run into any trouble in Beijing, feel free to call me."
"Of course."
Cheng Yuan and Zhang Yi exchanged numbers. Then, Cheng Yuan bid farewell to He Hongting, "Uncle He, you don’t need to see us out."
He Hongting gave a slight nod and turned back toward the He Mansion. He was going to check on his daughter.
Zhang Yi took his leave, eager to please. "Mr. Cheng, I have a lot of work back at the office, so I’ll head back now. No matter what trouble you run into in Beijing, please don’t hesitate to give me a call."
"Alright, Secretary Zhang. Thank you."
After Zhang Yi left, Cheng Yuan finally let out a huge sigh of relief.
’Fate is a funny thing.’
Back on the plane, He Zhendong had nearly backed him into a corner. The He Family had been like a great mountain, its weight so immense that Cheng Yuan could barely breathe.
He never expected that in the blink of an eye, the He Family would become his patron.
Once everyone had left, Housekeeper Zuo, who had been waiting respectfully off to the side, finally dared to step forward. He admitted his fault with sincerity, "Divine Doctor Cheng, I was the one who tipped off the Young Master. Punish me as you see fit, whether by beating or scolding. I will have no complaints."
Cheng Yuan waved a dismissive hand. "You were just being loyal to your master. You are very loyal to Zhen Dong. What fault is there in that?"
Housekeeper Zuo’s eyes grew warm. "Thank you for your magnanimity, Divine Doctor Cheng. The Young Master has prepared a car for you to use while in Beijing."
"Thank Zhen Dong for me."
"Huzi, from this day forward, you are Divine Doctor Cheng’s personal driver. You are to follow his every command without question. Understood?"
"Yes!"
Cheng Yuan and Hu Shishi didn’t refuse He Zhendong’s kind gesture and got into the car without hesitation.
Huzi asked respectfully, "Divine Doctor Cheng, Miss Hu, where to?"
Cheng Yuan didn’t say anything, turning to look at Hu Shishi instead.
Hu Shishi took out her phone and called her best friend, Xiao Xun’Er.
"Xun’Er, thanks for setting this up. We got the consultation fee."
Xiao Xun’Er giggled. "Shishi, I did you such a huge favor. Don’t you think you should treat me to a nice dinner?"
"Of course! You pick the place, anywhere you like!"
"In that case, I won’t hold back! Let’s go to the Cheng Mansion Banquet! We’ll have Master Cheng himself cook for us!"
Hu Shishi’s eyes lit up.
The Cheng Mansion Banquet was a private kitchen with the best reputation in Beijing, bar none. Its head chef, Master Cheng, had served as the lead chef for Dragon Country’s state banquets for decades.
Master Cheng’s signature dishes were Mao’s Braised Pork and Marshal Shrimp, both of which had fascinating stories that were often retold.
Master Cheng had been retired for years. Getting him to cook for you would cost several million at least, and that was only if he was in the right mood.
"Deal! We’ll go find Master Cheng! We’re going to feast to our heart’s content tonight!"
"Hahaha, it’s a date, then. See you at the Cheng Mansion Banquet."
Hu Shishi hung up and said, "Huzi, to the Cheng Mansion Banquet."
"Yes."
The car started up and headed straight for the Cheng Mansion Banquet.
The Cheng Mansion Banquet was located on the shores of Houhai. Its storefront was extremely low-key; you could easily miss the entrance if you weren’t looking carefully.
Of course, with a reputation like the Cheng Mansion Banquet’s, it didn’t need a sign.
"Divine Doctor Cheng, Miss Hu, we’ve arrived at the Cheng Mansion Banquet. Why don’t you two head in? I’ll go find parking."
"Alright."
Cheng Yuan and Hu Shishi got out of the car and looked at the Cheng Mansion Banquet with interest.
Hu Shishi was very interested in Cheng Yuan’s Broken Blade. She asked with a smile, "Xiaoyuan, can I see your Broken Blade?"
"Of course."
Cheng Yuan took out the Broken Blade and handed it to Hu Shishi.
Hu Shishi gripped the hilt, which resembled a hand made of bone. With a SHING, she drew the Broken Blade.
In the sunlight, the Broken Blade emitted an eerie red glow.
Hu Shishi shuddered violently. Incredibly gory images flashed through her mind. It was as if she had become a female demon, stopping at no evil, wielding the Broken Blade to slaughter the people of an entire city!
"Ah! Stay away! Stay away from me! I don’t want to kill anyone!!"
Hu Shishi’s face twisted into a savage expression as she swung the Broken Blade around wildly.
Cheng Yuan quickly snatched the Broken Blade from her and shouted, "Sister Shishi, snap out of it!!"
Cheng Yuan’s voice was so loud it made Hu Shishi’s ears ring.
It worked. Hu Shishi gradually came to her senses. She stared in horror at the Broken Blade in Cheng Yuan’s hand. "Xiaoyuan, that blade is too evil! Get rid of it! Throw it away right now! I’m worried you’ll fall under its influence and become a homicidal maniac who stops at nothing!!"
Cheng Yuan gave the Broken Blade a few light swings and said with a smile, "I’m fine, Sister Shishi. What happened to you just now?"
"Blood! Blood was everywhere! Dismembered bodies everywhere! It was me! No, it was the person holding this Broken Blade who did it! I’m really worried you’ll lose yourself to it."
"Sister Shishi, I’m really fine. It isn’t affecting my mind. Perhaps that’s the reason it and I are fated to be."
Hu Shishi stared intently into Cheng Yuan’s eyes. After confirming he was truly unaffected by the Broken Blade, she breathed a small sigh of relief. "Maybe it’s because your Spiritual Power is stronger, Xiaoyuan, so you aren’t affected by it."
As they spoke, a fiery red Ferrari pulled up beside them. A girl in a white martial arts uniform sat in the passenger seat.
The girl had fair skin, large eyes, and a delicate nose. Her features were soft and gentle, giving her the look of a classic southern beauty.
A dashing young man sat in the driver’s seat. He had one hand on the steering wheel, and he put the fingers of his other hand to his lips and let out a sharp whistle.
"Shishi, that’s not cool! How could you come to Beijing and not even say hello? I had to hear it from Xun’Er."
The young man was Han Zhongming, a squad leader in the Dragon Flame Celestial Dragon Camp, who possessed the power of the Quasi-Divine Early Stage.
Among Beijing’s younger generation, he ranked in the top twenty.
Hu Shishi rolled her eyes. "Han Zhongming, we’re not that close. Why would I tell you I was coming to Beijing? What, are you following Xun’Er to freeload a meal?"
Han Zhongming replied, "Shishi, I am absolutely not here to freeload! Did you two come to the Cheng Mansion Banquet without a reservation? Good thing I booked a table here two months ago. Otherwise, you’d never get to taste Master Cheng’s cooking today."
Hu Shishi’s expression softened slightly. "Han Zhongming, you’ve finally done something decent for a change."
Han Zhongming retorted, displeased, "What do you mean I never do anything decent?"
Seeing that the two were about to start bickering again, Xiao Xun’Er quickly changed the subject. "Shishi, aren’t you going to introduce us?"
Hu Shishi made the introductions. "This is Cheng Yuan, my fiancé."
"This is Xiao Xun’Er, my bestie. And that’s Han Zhongming, Xiao Xun’Er’s devoted follower and childhood friend. There’s a ten-percent chance he might be her future husband."
Han Zhongming protested, "Why only a ten-percent chance? I’m so amazing, it should be ninety-nine point nine nine percent, at least!"
The words had barely left his mouth when a mocking voice cut in, "You’re right, Han Zhongming. You have at least a ninety-nine point nine nine percent chance... of striking out."
