Chapter 399: Stop Your Pathetic Performance
Chen Ping was like a failing student who had suddenly aced a test, rushing excitedly to Wan Liang, hoping for praise.
In Chen Ping’s mind, Cheng Yuan was Wan Liang’s rival—the enemy!
He had stolen Cheng Yuan’s glory, which, in his mind, was a great service to Wan Liang.
Wan Liang would surely praise him handsomely!
However, to Chen Ping’s surprise, an undisguised look of disgust flashed across Wan Liang’s eyes.
During the afternoon hunt, Chen Ping’s sunscreen had caused their traps to fail.
And during the fight with the black bear just now, Xiang Fei and Luo Hou had at least shot their arrows and even charged in with their knives to fight!
Only Chen Ping had held back, not lifting a finger.
Worst of all, Chen Ping was the one least lacking in supplies; he had at least twenty arrows in his room!
If Chen Ping had acted sooner, even if his aim was poor, he could have at least lightly wounded the black bear and distracted it.
But Chen Ping never made a move.
He only came out to steal the kill when the bear was on the verge of death!
SLAP!
Wan Liang slapped Chen Ping viciously, his face swelling up instantly.
Chen Ping was stunned. He instinctively covered his face. "Young Master Wan, I killed the black bear! It’s one thing not to praise me, but why did you hit me?"
SLAP!
Wan Liang slapped him again!
"Chen Ping! Have you no shame? Brother Cheng clearly hunted that bear with his blade! What does it have to do with you?"
Feeling utterly wronged by the beating, Chen Ping could only look pleadingly at Xiang Fei and Luo Hou, hoping his two brothers would speak up for him.
"Xiang Fei, Luo Hou, back me up here! I’m the one who killed the bear! If you don’t believe me, go check! Didn’t my arrow hit the bear’s heart?"
After witnessing the battle with the black bear, Xiang Fei and Luo Hou were now completely in awe of Cheng Yuan.
The two of them looked at Chen Ping with contempt.
"Chen Ping, can’t you have some shame? Mr. Cheng hunted that bear with his blade! What difference did your one arrow make?"
"Chen Ping, you have at least twenty arrows in your cabin! If you’d helped Young Master Wan sooner, this bear would have been dead long ago! But you just cowered and did nothing! You only struck when the bear was about to die! Someone like you doesn’t deserve to be our friend!"
The three women also began to mock Chen Ping mercilessly.
"Chen Ping! Have some damn dignity, will you? What were you doing when the bear almost ate us? What were you doing when it was attacking Young Master Wan’s cabin? Why didn’t you just wait until Cheng Yuan was skinning and gutting the bear before you made your move?"
"I think it would’ve been safer to wait until we were roasting the bear paws!"
"Goddammit! I’ve never met anyone so disgusting! You did nothing, just swooped in to steal the credit, yet you’re acting so self-righteous!"
Chen Ping was cornered and overcome with shame, but since he’d already said it, he couldn’t back down now.
Chen Ping defiantly stuck his neck out. "Say whatever you want! I’m the one who pierced the bear’s heart! I dealt the fatal blow! Not Cheng Yuan!"
Everyone glared at Chen Ping, but they couldn’t refute him. From the angle of the arrow in the bear, it really did look like it had hit the heart.
They could condemn Chen Ping for his shamelessness, but they couldn’t deny the lethality of that shot.
Only Cheng Yuan snorted in disdain.
But Cheng Yuan was not the kind of person to let someone else steal his kill.
The moment he heard the arrow whistling through the air, Cheng Yuan had activated his Double Pupil’s Mystical Object Ability, using all his power to sap the arrow’s kinetic energy.
As a result, the arrow did indeed strike the heart’s location, but it failed to pierce through.
The arrowhead stopped less than five millimeters from the heart.
Those five millimeters were like an impassable chasm.
Cheng Yuan pulled out his Broken Blade and stabbed it fiercely into the black bear’s chest.
Soon, Cheng Yuan had sliced open the bear’s torso.
SCHLICK! SCHLICK!
Cheng Yuan severed several major blood vessels connected to the heart.
Blood splattered everywhere.
Cheng Yuan smoothly cut out the black bear’s heart.
Expressionless, Cheng Yuan pulled the black bear’s heart out of its chest cavity.
The scene was too gruesome. The three women couldn’t bear to watch and instinctively turned away.
The other boys watched Cheng Yuan with curiosity, wondering why he was cutting out the bear’s heart.
Under the boys’ dumbfounded gazes, Cheng Yuan cupped the bear’s heart in his hands, slowly walked over to Chen Ping, and held it out.
What Cheng Yuan found strange was that any normal person would feel uncomfortable seeing such a sight.
Even Wan Liang, an experienced hunter, was dry-heaving a little. Xiang Fei and Luo Hou were in worse shape; their faces were pale, and they threw up all the vegetable soup they had drunk that afternoon.
But Chen Ping’s expression was calm, as if such a scene were a daily occurrence for him.
Chen Ping asked in a low voice, "Mr. Cheng, what is the meaning of this? Are you giving me the heart as a souvenir?"
Cheng Yuan rolled his eyes in annoyance. ’This Chen Ping, he sure wishes!’
"Chen Ping, open your damn eyes and look closely! Is there even a single scratch on this bear’s heart?"
Chen Ping stared intently, then grew bewildered.
’What’s going on? I clearly hit the bear’s heart just now! Why isn’t there an arrow hole in the heart?’
Wan Liang, Xiang Fei, and Luo Hou fought back their discomfort and leaned in for a curious look. Their faces twisted into incredibly strange expressions.
There really wasn’t an arrow hole!
The three of them burst out laughing, looking at Chen Ping with contempt.
"Chen Ping, oh, Chen Ping, you can’t even steal a kill properly! You didn’t hit the heart at all!"
"Hahaha, that’s hilarious! With his pathetic strength, Chen Ping could barely break its defense, let alone touch the heart. And he still wanted to steal the kill?"
"Chen Ping, if you’re so useless, you should go cry to your mommy! You had a dying bear right in front of you and you still couldn’t even hit its heart!"
Chen Ping was on the verge of madness. "Impossible! Absolutely impossible! I drew a fifty-kilogram compound recurve bow to a full draw! How could it not pierce the bear’s heart?"
Wan Liang looked at Chen Ping with disgust. "Cut the pathetic act! From this day on, I, Wan Liang, have no brother like you! Get lost! And never show your face in front of me again!"
Chen Ping stared at Wan Liang in disbelief. "Young Master Wan, I was standing up for you! How can you tell me to get lost? If anyone should get lost, it should be that guy surnamed Cheng!"
SHIING!
Wan Liang drew his Hunting Blade and pointed it at Chen Ping. "If you dare insult my Brother Cheng again, believe it or not, I’ll cut you down!"
Xiang Fei and Luo Hou also picked up their machetes, watching Chen Ping coldly. If Wan Liang made a move, they wouldn’t hesitate to follow.
"Fine! I’m leaving! But you all just wait!"
Chen Ping snorted coldly and turned to leave.
’Damn Wan Liang, damn Xiang Fei, damn Luo Hou! For the sake of our brotherhood, I was going to spare you and not harvest your kidneys. You forced my hand!’
Chen Ping took out his phone and dialed a familiar number.
"Cha Meng, I’ve got a batch of top-grade goods over here. I need you guys to make a trip to the Hundred Thousand Mountains, supply point A3."
