Chapter 38: Purifying Karmic Obstacles
The expressions of the three Mei Family members flickered. ’Isn’t this Master Cheng’s price a bit too outrageous?’
They had spent over three hundred million to buy that plot of land back in the day. Even if they couldn’t rezone it, they wouldn’t lose money using it for vegetable greenhouses or to grow cash crops.
But they had no other choice!
’We’ll just have to chalk it up to spending money to ward off disaster!’
Mei Xing’an swallowed the bitter pill and gritted his teeth. "If Master Cheng can solve this problem completely, then that plot of land is yours!"
Cheng Yuan was inwardly ecstatic, but his face was a mask of reluctance.
"Sigh... I’ll give it a try, then. This will likely consume more than half of my Merit and over a decade of my good fortune."
Led by Cheng Yuan, the group soon arrived at the location of the nearest female corpse.
The Evil Daoist was dead and the Nine Yin Yang Rejuvenation Array had automatically stopped running, but the nine female corpses were still ceaselessly absorbing the Power of the Earth Veins.
However, they no longer needed to convert Pure Yin Qi into Pure Yang Qi to nourish the Evil Daoist; instead, they could now nourish themselves.
In just that short time,
the female corpse had grown slightly stronger.
Cheng Yuan wasn’t bluffing to scare Mei Xing’an. If these corpses were left unattended, they would, in time, truly evolve into terrifying entities.
As they stepped into the villa’s living room, a wave of cold air, noticeably more intense than before, washed over them. The four of them shivered involuntarily, goosebumps breaking out all over their skin.
Liang Zhen whispered in Mei Xing’an’s ear, "Chairman, the Yin Qi here seems to have grown stronger. Master Cheng’s words are highly credible."
Mei Xing’an nodded slightly and turned to Cheng Yuan. "Master Cheng, we’re counting on you."
Cheng Yuan gave a slight nod and issued a stern warning. "From this moment on, no matter what you see, do not make a sound. Otherwise, you risk being haunted by a Fierce Ghost. Understood?"
The four of them nodded hurriedly.
Cheng Yuan took a deep breath and activated the Celestial Witch Heart Method. Wisps of black energy began to pour out of his body.
Shrouded in the black energy, a strange smile spread across Cheng Yuan’s face, giving him a sinisterly alluring look.
The four exchanged glances. ’Why does Master Cheng seem even more demonic than the Undead?’
Cheng Yuan began to chant.
"Oh, spirits of Heaven and Earth, lend me your power! Witch God, grant me the Divine Power to cleanse this soul! I tread upon the ground of the Cyan Dragon and White Tiger, the Golden Sail Soul-Guiding Banner in my hand! I sweep the East of its Wood! I sweep the South of its Fire! I sweep the West of its Metal! I sweep the North of its Water! I sweep the Center of its Earth! Let the spirit of the departed rise to the heavens!"
As if possessed by a spirit-medium, Cheng Yuan’s movements became unnaturally stiff. He hopped about like a man performing a shamanic ritual, making sweeping gestures back and forth across the villa’s living room.
Although Cheng Yuan’s actions should have been comical, none of the four could bring themselves to laugh. Instead, a chilling sensation crept over their scalps.
Because as his chant grew louder and more sonorous, the chill in the living room intensified.
Suddenly!
A figure in white burst forth from the floorboards, circling endlessly around Cheng Yuan.
She was a beautiful woman, but her face was deathly pale and bloodless. A look of utter confusion flickered in her eyes, as if she couldn’t comprehend why she had appeared here.
After a moment, the woman seemed to recall something. Her expression twisted from terror into a ferocious snarl.
"Don’t kill me! Please, don’t kill me! I haven’t even been married! I haven’t had children! I’m still young! Why did you have to kill me?! I’ll devour you!"
The woman’s face grew increasingly frightful as she lunged at Cheng Yuan, ready to tear him to pieces.
The scene was so terrifying that the four onlookers trembled uncontrollably. But they remembered Cheng Yuan’s warning and clamped their hands over their mouths, stifling any sound.
Utterly unflustered, Cheng Yuan pointed a hand at the woman and continued his chant.
"Witch God, grant her clarity! Merit, illuminate her soul! Expel all evil! Purify her Karmic Obstacles! Go!"
Cheng Yuan recited the Spell with incredible speed. Two streams of energy shot from his finger: one, a black, ghostly witch energy, and the other, the golden Power of Merit.
The black and gold energies intertwined, forming a black-gold aura. This new power was vast and majestic, exuding a sacred divinity that completely lacked its earlier sinister quality.
SIZZLE!
As the black-gold energy fell upon the woman, thick smoke billowed from her form as if she were being scorched.
Yet, instead of showing pain, the woman’s expression was one of pure bliss.
For what was being burned away were her Karmic Obstacles.
Soon, the smoke ceased to rise. Her aura, once savage, became balanced and peaceful. She now looked like a simple, kind-hearted young woman.
The woman gazed at Cheng Yuan and gave a graceful bow. "Thank you, Master, for helping me cleanse my Karmic Obstacles and allowing me to find peace in the afterlife. In my next life, I shall burn incense and pray for your well-being every day."
Cheng Yuan secretly sighed in relief. ’This is my first time helping an Undead pass on. I can’t believe it went so smoothly.’
Of course, Cheng Yuan wasn’t about to look so relaxed. He circulated his True Essence, forcing beads of sweat to pop out on his forehead, and began panting heavily, putting on an act of extreme exertion.
Cheng Yuan gave the woman a slight nod and began a new chant.
"Let the living soul depart, let the dead soul enter. Spirit of the departed, enter your casket!"
As he chanted, Cheng Yuan raised a hand and sketched in the air, forming a casket out of the black-gold energy.
The woman bowed to Cheng Yuan once more, then slowly floated up and lay down inside the casket.
CLICK.
The casket lid shut.
"Casket of dark gold, ferry this departed soul! Enter the cycle of rebirth, and find your peace!"
Cheng Yuan pointed a finger. A vortex abruptly appeared in the empty air, and its pull drew the dark gold casket into its swirling depths.
Once the casket had vanished completely, the vortex dissipated as well.
As the vortex faded, the bone-chilling cold also began to recede.
The four observers even began to feel a pleasant, comforting warmth spread through them.
THUMP. As if utterly spent, Cheng Yuan collapsed to the floor, panting for breath and looking as though he had exhausted every last bit of his True Qi and mental energy.
The four onlookers had been staring, dumbfounded. They were completely stunned by Cheng Yuan’s performance. When had they ever witnessed such a mystical spectacle?
Their faces were flushed with excitement, but since Cheng Yuan hadn’t given them permission, they didn’t dare speak. They could only stare at him with eager eyes.
Cheng Yuan spoke in a weak voice, "The female ghost has been guided to the afterlife. You can speak now."
Only then did the four of them relax, and they immediately began showering him with praise.
"Master Cheng, that was incredible! That five hundred million was more than worth it!"
"Master Cheng, compared to you, all those other so-called masters are nothing but clowns!"
"So Undead are actually real... I always thought they were just old legends passed down by our elders."
Cheng Yuan waved a hand weakly. "There are still eight more corpses that need to be guided on. Allow me a moment to rest and recover my True Qi and mental energy."
