Chapter 130: An Accident Happened
Seeing Lin Ruoxi like this, Cheng Yuan would have to be a fool not to understand!
With trembling hands, Cheng Yuan undid the buttons of her pajamas, revealing a stomach as flawless and smooth as warm jade.
What captivated Cheng Yuan the most was her navel. It was a slender, vertical line—the kind only fitness enthusiasts could boast.
It was clear that while Lin Ruoxi didn’t do heavy weightlifting, she must regularly practice things like yoga. Her figure was maintained to absolute perfection.
Cheng Yuan kissed her navel with reverence. In the future, his and Lin Ruoxi’s child would be conceived and grow inside this very belly.
A warm smile graced Cheng Yuan’s face at the thought of that day.
Cheng Yuan carefully helped Lin Ruoxi out of her pajamas. He looked up, gazing at her stunning face, and whispered in the gentlest voice, "Ruoxi, here I come."
Lin Ruoxi didn’t answer. Her lips were slightly parted, and her breathing was even and steady.
Cheng Yuan was completely thrown!
’He was locked and loaded, but the enemy had fallen asleep?’
’What the hell...?’
If Cheng Yuan woke her, Lin Ruoxi would most likely play along and go a few hundred rounds with him, but he just didn’t have the heart to do it.
Lin Ruoxi had been so tired lately, under so much pressure. Today, she’d been busy right up until this moment; her body and mind were pushed to their absolute limits.
Cheng Yuan kissed her forehead with heartfelt tenderness, then pulled her close and drifted off into a deep sleep.
The morning sun shone on Lin Ruoxi’s face. She furrowed her brow and slowly opened her eyes.
As consciousness gradually returned, she saw a handsome, sleeping face beside her.
Then, she realized something was wrong. She wasn’t wearing her pajamas!
What’s more, she was held tightly in Cheng Yuan’s embrace, their legs practically tangled together...
Lin Ruoxi’s heart skipped a beat. ’Did Cheng Yuan take advantage of her while she was asleep?’
She instinctively looked down. Her underwear was still on.
In that instant, Lin Ruoxi breathed a sigh of relief. Cheng Yuan still cared for her. He knew she was exhausted and hadn’t forced things.
But then, a strange, new feeling bubbled up inside her.
’She had given her silent consent for everything last night, and Cheng Yuan actually held back?’
’Am I that unattractive?’
As if to punish Cheng Yuan for his ’cowardice,’ Lin Ruoxi pouted and traced little circles on his chest with her delicate, orchid-like fingers.
In his sleepy daze, Cheng Yuan thought a little ant was crawling on him. He subconsciously raised a hand to swat it, but instead grabbed Lin Ruoxi’s small hand.
Her hand was so soft and delicate. Cheng Yuan slowly opened his eyes and saw Lin Ruoxi, mere inches away.
The sight of Lin Ruoxi’s flirtatious pout instantly captivated him!
In that moment, Cheng Yuan finally understood why some ancient emperors would skip their morning court sessions.
Cheng Yuan looked at Lin Ruoxi with a predatory gaze. "Ruoxi, are you all rested up?"
Lin Ruoxi’s heart fluttered. She knew he was sending a signal. As long as she gave him the nod, everything would happen naturally.
"I’m rested."
Lin Ruoxi’s voice was soft; she no longer feigned modesty.
After several days of observation and all the back-and-forth testing the waters, Lin Ruoxi felt that the mood and the moment were finally right. She could give herself completely to Cheng Yuan.
Besides, they were already a legally married couple.
Cheng Yuan’s face flushed with excitement as his trembling hand reached for the clasp of her bra.
’He’d practiced this many times over the past few days. He had some experience now and had figured out the trick to undoing the clasp.’
Just as the clasp was about to come undone, Cheng Yuan’s phone suddenly rang!
Cheng Yuan snatched his phone in annoyance. He couldn’t help but frown when he saw the screen.
’Captain Wu?’
’What could she possibly want?’
==========
「One hour earlier.」
「Patrol Office.」
Wu Mengyao had spent the entire night in the surveillance room, poring over footage. Her eyes were bloodshot.
But she hadn’t found a single clue!
The suspect was extremely familiar with Luocheng’s layout, taking routes with minimal surveillance coverage.
And to make matters worse, the cameras at several key locations were broken!
Wu Mengyao knew with certainty that it would be impossible to find the suspect within 24 hours. Her only option was to ask the City Lord for help.
Wu Mengyao dragged her weary body to the Municipal Government Office.
Wu Fei was a little surprised to see his sister.
"Sis, what are you doing here? Is something up?"
"I’m in trouble. I need to see the City Lord."
"Okay, I’ll go let him know. Wait here a moment, Sis. The City Lord is meeting with the head of the planning department right now."
"Mm."
About ten minutes later, the head of the planning department left the office. Wu Fei then entered, walked up to Shen Jiangnan’s side, and said quietly, "Sir, Captain Wu is here. She’d like to see you."
’Captain Wu?’
Shen Jiangnan paused. His mind raced for a moment, and then he realized who Wu Fei was talking about.
Shen Jiangnan was a very busy man, with people requesting to see him every day. Normally, a mere patrol captain wouldn’t be qualified to speak with him directly.
However, Wu Mengyao was Wu Fei’s sister, after all.
He had to extend that courtesy.
Shen Jiangnan glanced at his watch and said in a heavy tone, "Let Captain Wu in. She has two minutes, max."
"Yes, sir."
Wu Mengyao knocked twice. Hearing an authoritative voice from within, she gently pushed the door open.
Wu Mengyao strode steadily forward, stopping about a yard from the desk. "Sir."
Shen Jiangnan nodded slightly. "Captain Wu, no need to be so formal. We’re all on the same team here. Please, have a seat."
Shen Jiangnan was being courteous, but Wu Mengyao didn’t dare to be so casual. She politely refused, "I’m fine standing, sir."
Shen Jiangnan didn’t insist. "Captain Wu, the matter of your promotion has already been discussed in our internal meetings. Barring any surprises, the personnel department will be speaking with you in a few days."
"Sir, there has been a surprise. A very big one."
Shen Jiangnan’s expression turned serious. He had strongly backed Wu Mengyao in their internal meetings. If something went wrong on her end, wouldn’t that be a slap in his own face?
"Captain Wu, what kind of surprise?"
"It’s like this... so, this is definitely a conspiracy targeting me. Please, sir, I need you to help me seek justice."
Shen Jiangnan’s brows furrowed deeply.
He had thought that successfully cracking the trafficking case meant he was finally getting a handle on the situation. He never imagined it was all just a facade created by his opponents.
"Captain Wu, do you have any proof that it was Director Dai who ordered you to transfer the suspect to Pan Guang?"
Wu Mengyao shook her head. "Director Dai called me into his office and gave the order face-to-face. There are no recordings or written records."
"That makes things difficult. The most I can do is get you an extension on the deadline for a few days. Ultimately, the only way to clear your name is to recapture the suspect."
"Thank you, sir. I will definitely recapture the suspect before the deadline!"
"You may go."
...
Wu Mengyao left the City Lord’s office with an incredibly heavy heart. Though she had made the bold promise to recapture the suspect within the deadline, deep down, she wasn’t confident at all.
"Sis, why don’t you ask Brother Cheng? He’s got some uncanny skills; maybe he’ll have a solution."
Wu Mengyao’s eyes lit up. She’d been so frantic she’d gone silly. How could she have forgotten about Cheng Yuan?
Cheng Yuan had helped catch the suspect in the first place. Maybe he really did have a solution!
And even if he couldn’t help, she’d at least get to see him and work with him again. That thought alone was enough to lift her spirits.
Wu Mengyao quickly took out her phone and dialed Cheng Yuan’s number.
