Chapter 1740 - 2042: Reunion with an Old Friend (Part 2)
"Mom, let’s go."
Jiang Yue’e nodded, took a deep look at the shadow inside the car, and then got into the Rolls-Royce with Nanrong Wanqing. As soon as they got in the car and saw Nanrong Wanqing appearing safe and sound in front of him, Yang He’s expression immediately turned excited.
"Wanqing, it’s so good that you’re okay, I’ve been worried sick."
"Yang He." Nanrong Wanqing called out his name with delight. Before he could react, she had opened her arms and rushed forward, wrapping her body around his. Her eyes reddened, and her lips trembled slightly as she murmured, "I thought I would never see you again."
Watching Nanrong Wanqing’s voluntary embrace, Yang He was stunned in his seat, his mind going blank. This... what’s going on? He couldn’t react for a moment. He had known Nanrong Wanqing for quite some time and understood her personality well; she was definitely not a casual person. Even after a narrow escape, she wouldn’t display such behavior. This kind of intimate words and actions could only be directed at a boyfriend, yet in Nanrong Wanqing’s eyes he was just a very ordinary friend.
After a moment of daze, Yang He awkwardly extended his hands to embrace Nanrong Wanqing’s delicate body, and then shifted his gaze to Jiang Yue’e inside the car. The latter merely smiled, saying nothing.
"Well... Wanqing, let’s head back first." Seeing Jiang Yue’e remain silent, Yang He had no choice but to gently push Nanrong Wanqing away. Although he greatly enjoyed this contact, there were others present, and he felt awkward continuing.
After leaving the dump, the Rolls-Royce headed straight towards the downtown area of Jin Hai City. Before long, the car parked in front of a five-star hotel.
Once inside the presidential suite, Jiang Yue’e said, "Wanqing, go take a bath and have a good rest."
Nanrong Wanqing responded and walked straight into her bedroom. As soon as she left, Yang He impatiently asked, "Mrs. Jiang, what happened to Wanqing? It’s only been a few days, why such a big change?"
"Don’t you like it?" Jiang Yue’e asked in return.
"Well..." Yang He hesitated for a moment then said, "Although I really want to be that person in Wanqing’s heart, her changes seem a bit inexplicable, and I wasn’t prepared for it at all. Mrs. Jiang, please honestly tell me, what has Wanqing been through?"
"I promised you before," Jiang Yue’e said flatly, "As long as you help me, I definitely won’t disappoint you." She paused, then continued, "Don’t carry any psychological burden. Wanqing’s affection for you is destined; I just accelerated the process. Now, apart from her family, you are the most important person in her life. In short, you must cherish her well, and don’t let me down."
Yang He nodded and said, "Mrs. Jiang, rest assured, I will wholeheartedly be good to Wanqing, and never let her suffer in the slightest."
After speaking, as if recalling something, Yang He asked curiously, "Mrs. Jiang, one more thing, back at the dump, what did you give that person?"
At the mention of this, Jiang Yue’e’s expression immediately turned somber and she replied coolly, "Don’t ask things you shouldn’t know. It’s late, everyone should get some rest. We’ve delayed here for quite a while, and we must hurry back to East Sea City first thing tomorrow."
...
At this moment, Ling Chen was taking a taxi directly to a villa in the suburban area. After getting out of the car, he handed the driver several hundred-dollar bills and asked him to wait nearby. Then, he walked alone to the wall of the villa and peered inside.
Even though it was already past midnight, the lights inside the villa were still on. However, Ling Chen’s gaze fixed on a car parked in front of the villa. Seeing the license plate on that car made him secretly nod. Hu Fei’s information was correct; this car was indeed parked here.
Seeing no one guarding the villa’s perimeter, Ling Chen carefully climbed over the wall, moving to the side of the villa’s exterior wall. Soon, he silently approached a window. Because curtains were hanging inside the window, he couldn’t see the situation inside, so Ling Chen had to rely on listening for any sounds.
The villa had three floors, and Ling Chen heard faint footsteps on the first floor. Judging by the footsteps, there might be two to three people. Unfortunately, he couldn’t ascertain if there were people upstairs.
After thinking for a while, Ling Chen moved to the back of the villa. Seeing an air conditioning unit mounted high on the outer wall, he jumped up, grabbing the air conditioner’s support rack with both hands, and slowly climbed upwards. Soon, he reached the balcony on the second floor. The balcony was connected to the bedroom, separated by a glass door. Ling Chen looked inside the bedroom; it was dark, without lights or sounds, probably nobody inside.
Accordingly, he slowly pushed open the glass door, cautiously stepping out from the balcony into the room. Once inside the bedroom, he quickly scanned the surroundings. Although it wasn’t illuminated, under the bright moonlight, objects in the room were barely visible.
Seeing there was no one in the room, Ling Chen secretly breathed a sigh of relief. At last, he was inside!
Arriving at the bedroom door, Ling Chen gently pushed the door open to reveal a slit, then glanced outside. Beyond the door was a corridor with a red carpet and lights glowing at the top. As the door slit widened, Ling Chen’s view became clearer, allowing him to observe the whole corridor.
There were three bedrooms upstairs, all with closed doors, and it was impossible to determine which room Nanrong Wanqing was in. From the conversation with Bai Zhangqiu, he was fairly certain Nanrong Wanqing must have gotten into the car outside. Since the car was parked here, it indicated that Nanrong Wanqing was also in this villa.
Biting his lip, Ling Chen summoned his courage, quickly dashed out of the room, and then reached the bedroom next door. Regardless of whether it was occupied, he directly pushed open the door and rushed inside.
Upon seeing the empty room, Ling Chen furrowed his brows. No one here either; might she be in the other bedroom? Thinking this, without hesitating, he moved to the opposite bedroom. However, the result was the same—no one was in any of the three bedrooms.
Having searched the second floor with no results, if Nanrong Wanqing was indeed here, she must be on the first or third floor. The first floor had people, increasing the likelihood of being discovered. For safety, it’s best to search the third floor first.
Ascending the stairs, Ling Chen tread lightly up to the third floor. Upon arriving, he focused his eyes, finding the layout peculiar, as there was a large living room with dim lighting. He stealthily approached a corner and scrutinized it. Near the window, there was a single sofa with someone sitting on it. Unfortunately, the person was facing the window, their face hidden, leaving only the back of their head visible.
