Chapter 1737 - 2039: Battle of the Stronghold (Part 3)
Although the entire laboratory was pitch black, through the sounds of fighting from Yang Chen and Wei Jiahao’s side, Ling Chen quickly locked onto their position. "Seventh Brother, Eighth Brother." Ling Chen called softly, taking an arrow-like step forward and instantly reaching the two of them.
Seemingly aware of Ling Chen’s arrival, the assassin attacking Wei Jiahao immediately retreated, disappearing into the darkness without a trace.
"Eighth Brother, are you alright?" Ling Chen asked with concern. Wei Jiahao was skilled at mechanical techniques; though he knew some martial arts, his strength was mediocre and not considered expert, so Ling Chen was worried and feared Wei Jiahao might be injured.
"Sixth Brother, don’t worry, I’m not that easily troubled."
Ling Chen nodded and said, "Let’s go, let’s regroup with everyone." In such an environment, it was better to stay together for safety; even if there’s danger, they could look out for each other.
However, after taking only a few steps, Yang Chen suddenly stopped in his tracks and said in a deep voice, "There’s someone above." Hearing him speak, Ling Chen raised his head, ready to locate the enemy, but before he could lock onto them, there were already sounds of something cutting through the air by his ears. Then, a cry of pain rang out from above, accompanied by a dull thud, as if something had fallen to the ground.
Although it was hard to see clearly, Ling Chen could tell from the sound that the Netherworld Snake assassin had been hit by something.
Without time to think further, the three quickly retreated to join Qiu Yong and his group.
"Seventh Brother, it’s up to you now." Qiu Yong said.
"No big deal." Yang Chen replied calmly, seemingly unbothered by the crisis at hand. After all, he was born blind and had trained his hearing since childhood; in this aspect, even Heavenly List experts couldn’t match his sharp ear. In this environment, it might be best for the Netherworld Snake assassins to act, but for him, it made no difference whether there was light or not.
"Left, nine meters away." With Yang Chen’s report, Zhang Zhongfeng beside him immediately drew his bow without hesitation and shot out. Suddenly, a tragic scream was heard.
"Southeast direction, about five meters, three meters from the top."
Without saying a word, Zhang Zhongfeng fired another arrow. Within moments, two Netherworld Snake assassins were taken out, without even getting a chance to get close.
After taking care of two assassins, Yang Chen’s lips curled slightly as he smiled and said, "A bunch of cowards." Through the subtle sounds around him, he could clearly understand the situation. Originally surrounding them, the Netherworld Snake assassins were slowly retreating. Probably due to the fate of their two companions, they were scared, and no one dared to approach.
For a moment, the Netherworld Snake assassins stopped their attack, leaving Ling Chen and his group on defense. After a brief standoff, Ling Chen spoke up: "This is getting us nowhere, it’s wasting too much time."
"Sixth Brother, to your left, about fifteen meters away, there should be three people. Sir Chen, twelve meters behind you, there are five people. They haven’t moved, so I can’t accurately judge their position."
Listening to Yang Chen’s report, Ling Chen responded with a sound, and the Nine Yang Qiankun Step was instantly activated as he charged straight toward the location Yang Chen mentioned. Meanwhile, Chen Junfeng flicked his silver spear and dashed towards the five Netherworld Snake assassins.
Their goal was not to kill but to force the opponents to move. Only by keeping them moving could Yang Chen accurately determine their positions through sound. Shortly, with Yang Chen’s help, Ling Chen and Chen Junfeng seemed like they were on a roll, and even without seeing the enemy, they easily took down six Netherworld Snake assassins due to Yang Chen’s positioning.
"Seventh Brother, where are the others?"
"Gone, they all ran."
Upon hearing this, everyone breathed a sigh of relief. Thanks to Yang Chen, otherwise, they wouldn’t have passed through so easily. Before long, under Ling Chen’s protection, Wei Jiahao found the laboratory’s main switch. Soon, the entire lab was restored to brightness.
Seeing the Netherworld Snake assassins sprawled across the ground, Ling Chen withdrew his gaze and said, "Everyone, let’s hurry and search every area thoroughly."
The group responded in unison, splitting into pairs and spreading out. After wandering through the laboratory, Ling Chen was surprised to discover that there were quite a few patient rooms. The leftovers in the rooms indicated that before their arrival, these patient rooms were occupied and later hastily evacuated. Some IV bottles were still hanging by the bedside, and the medication inside hadn’t been administered completely.
After searching for a while, Ling Chen arrived at room number five in the lab. As he opened the door, a faint fragrance immediately wafted into his nose. Glancing at the tidy room, Ling Chen was about to leave. But then, he seemed to notice something, his gaze intensified, and he quickly stepped into the room.
On the table in the corner of the room lay a pile of clothes, among which Ling Chen spotted a familiar garment—the dress Nanrong Wanqing wore at Nanrong Yong’s birthday banquet. Picking up the dress, Ling Chen smelled it, finding remnants of Nanrong Wanqing’s scent.
It seems Hu Fei’s judgment was correct; Nanrong Wanqing indeed came here and even stayed in this room. The room... Ling Chen furrowed his brows slightly, a hint of confusion in his eyes. He couldn’t understand why Jiang Yue’e brought Nanrong Wanqing here and arranged for her to stay in a patient room. Could it be that Nanrong Wanqing was sick?
Thinking this, Ling Chen scanned the room again and thoroughly checked it, including the trash can inside the room. As the contents of the trash can were emptied, Ling Chen’s gaze was immediately drawn to several transparent medical tubes. Picking up one of them, he saw the words ’Reagent No. 6’ written on the surface.
"Reagent No. 6... What is this?" After pondering, Ling Chen pocketed the tubes, planning to ask Zhu Xiaozhu for assistance when he returned. Zhu Xiaozhu is a doctor, so she might be able to determine the function of this reagent.
"Sixth Brother." At this moment, Wei Jiahao’s voice came from outside.
"I’m here." Ling Chen replied and then got up to leave the room. Seeing Wei Jiahao approaching him, he asked, "Eighth Brother, what’s up?"
"Big Brother and Seventh Brother found something; they want you to go have a look."
"Alright." Ling Chen nodded and immediately followed Wei Jiahao’s lead. Soon, in the eastern corner of the laboratory, they saw more than ten researchers in white lab coats raising their hands, slowly walking out.
"Big Brother, where did you find these people?" Ling Chen walked straight to Qiu Yong’s side and asked.
"Thanks to Seventh Brother’s ears." Qiu Yong said with a smile: "He heard sounds from behind the wall, which enabled us to find them. Judging by their clothes, they should all be laboratory staff."
