Chapter 1694 - 1996: Danger in the Restaurant (1)
Back at Dragon Tiger Hall, Ling Chen personally arranged a place for Ren Donglin to stay.
"Mr. Ling, I know the situation Dragon Tiger Hall is in right now, so I won’t rush you. Once you’ve handled everything, we can sit down and discuss how to deal with Netherworld Snake."
"Thank you for understanding, senior." Ling Chen offered his thanks, then left the room, letting Ren Donglin rest alone for a while.
When he got to the office, He Ziyun and Tong Zhentian were both there, sitting on the sofa with cups of hot tea in hand, chatting idly. Ling Chen walked over, greeted the two elders, then sat down beside them.
"Was this trip to Luofeng Town smooth?" Tong Zhentian asked.
Ling Chen replied with a smile, "More than smooth—extremely smooth. This time I invited the elder Ren Donglin to help. With his joining us, I’m a bit more confident. But right now the most important thing isn’t Netherworld Snake, it’s the alliance of the Dark Pavilion, the Heavenly Dragon Sect, and the Dangyang Sect. Yesterday when I mentioned this to Tian Xiong, from the way he talked, those three major forces will be taking action very soon. All we need to do now is wait for them to walk into our trap."
He Ziyun reminded him, "Confidence is good, but you can’t blindly believe in your own strength. Those three forces are no pushovers; we must handle this carefully." Saying that, he suddenly asked, "How is Master Su doing?"
"She’s okay. When I saw her yesterday, she was still blaming herself for the destruction of the Heavenly Mechanism Pavilion. I tried to comfort her a bit, hoping she can pull herself together as soon as possible." As he spoke, they saw Zhu Qing walk in from outside. She glanced at the three of them, then walked over to Ling Chen’s side and whispered a few words into his ear.
No one knew what Zhu Qing said, but Ling Chen’s eyes lit up.
"Mr. He, Elder Tong, something urgent came up. You two take your time chatting, I’ll head out first." With that, Ling Chen left the office quickly with Zhu Qing.
Watching Ling Chen hurry away, He Ziyun said with a helpless smile, "What’s that kid up to now, all mysterious like this, not even letting us know."
"Let him be, as long as he doesn’t stir up trouble."
...
"Hey! Sis, when are you and Mom planning to come back?"
In the president’s office of Hongyu Group, Nanrong Hao, who was acting president, was sitting in the boss’s swivel chair, holding his phone and talking with Nanrong Wanqing across the ocean.
"The company here has only just gotten on the right track, there’s still a lot to handle, so it might be hard to get away for a while. Why, is something urgent?"
"It’s nothing urgent, but Grandpa’s birthday is in half a month. Are you two not planning to come back to celebrate?"
"Look at my memory, I almost forgot something this big." Nanrong Wanqing said with a wry smile, "Of course we have to go back for Grandpa’s birthday. How about this, I’ll work out my schedule when the time comes and hurry back with Mom as soon as possible."
"Alright, if there’s nothing else I’ll hang up first."
"Wait!" On the other end, Nanrong Wanqing hesitated for a moment and asked, "How has he been lately?"
"He?" Nanrong Hao held back a laugh and countered, "Sis, which ’he’ are you talking about?"
"You’re clearly pretending you don’t know. Is it because I’m not around to keep an eye on you that you’ve gotten bolder and even dare to make fun of me?"
"No, no, no, I wouldn’t dare, I was just joking. Sis, you don’t have to take it seriously." Nanrong Hao said with a fawning smile, "I’m not too sure how Chen has been lately either. I only know he’s very busy. It’s been almost a month and I haven’t seen him once. Sis, if you’re worried about Chen, why don’t you just give him a call?"
"I... forget it! Since he’s so busy lately, I won’t bother him. Alright, I won’t talk to you anymore, I still have work to do." After saying that, Nanrong Wanqing hung up the phone directly.
Nanrong Hao put down his phone and shook his head helplessly. He really didn’t know what was going on between Chen and his sister—clearly they missed each other, yet neither was willing to take the initiative to call. It’s just a relationship, does it have to be this complicated?
At this moment, in a city thousands of miles away, Nanrong Wanqing was sitting in a spacious office, holding her phone in both hands. Staring at that familiar name in her contacts, her thumb rested on the call button, but she never pressed it.
After a long while, she let out a soft sigh, closed the contacts, picked up a file, and continued working. Just then, there was a knock of "knock, knock, knock" at the office door.
"Come in."
As soon as the words left her mouth, Jiang Yue’e walked in from outside. Seeing who it was, Nanrong Wanqing quickly stood up to greet her, but after just a few steps, her gaze was drawn to the person who appeared behind Jiang Yue’e.
"Yang He?" Nanrong Wanqing was slightly stunned. "What are you doing here?"
Standing behind Jiang Yue’e was a young man of about twenty-seven or twenty-eight, with a straight posture and regular features. The smile on his face was full of sunshine and energy, giving off a very warm feeling.
"Wanqing, we meet again." The young man named Yang He greeted her first with a smile. "I’m here today to invite Mrs. Jiang to a meal. You know, my parents stay in China most of the year, and I’m the only one working hard overseas. It’s hard for me to see them more than a few times a year. Thankfully, Mrs. Jiang is here, letting me feel the warmth of family. So whenever I’m free, I hope to spend more time with Mrs. Jiang."
Hearing this, Nanrong Wanqing nodded and didn’t say much.
"Wanqing, come eat with us later, and we can go stroll around the mall."
"Mom, I still have a lot to do. I’ll just order takeout later, you two go ahead."
"How can that do?" Jiang Yue’e took Nanrong Wanqing’s small hand and said earnestly, "Work is important, but your health is even more important. You have to eat less takeout from now on and pay more attention to your health. Alright, stop turning us down. Lately you’ve put all your energy into the company and haven’t spent much time with me. Fortunately, Yang He is a good kid and keeps me company shopping and watching plays when he’s free. You should learn from him in this regard."
Nanrong Wanqing said calmly, "Mom, President Yang is also a very busy man, don’t keep taking up his valuable time."
"It’s fine." Yang He chimed in from the side, "We have senior executives at the company, most things are handled by them. I just need to keep an eye on the big picture. As for Wanqing, she’s my role model. Even with Hongyu Group growing so big, she still handles things personally. That dedication alone is something we should learn from."
Jiang Yue’e shook her head with a smile. "Don’t keep praising her. You’re not bad yourself, both of you are models among the younger generation. Alright, enough of that, let’s go eat first." With that, she ignored Nanrong Wanqing’s protest and pulled her out of the office.
Watching her mother chatting happily with Yang He, Nanrong Wanqing sighed inwardly, not quite sure what she should say.
