Chapter 1776 - 2078: A Secret Kiss (1)
"Okay, I know you’re impressive. Since the server’s been hacked, pull out the data inside so I can have a look."
Hu Fei responded and opened a folder, within which appeared many sub-documents.
Ling Chen pointed to one of the sub-documents named ’Deep Hypnosis’ and said, "This is it."
Upon opening the document, Hu Fei immediately found the one marked with the words ’Tang Shiyun’. On the screen was an electronic report; from the report’s date, it seemed Tang Shiyun had been subjected to the experiment a week ago, right when she was captured.
Besides the electronic report, there was also a video documenting the entire experiment involving Tang Shiyun. After watching the whole video, Ling Chen asked, "Fatty, Shiyun should still be in East Sea City. Can you find a way to track them down?"
Though there were already technical personnel handling this, Ling Chen had blind trust in Hu Fei, possibly because the latter had never let him down.
"Relax, leave this minor task to me. As long as they appear in East Sea City, I assure you, I can find them."
"Alright, then I’m counting on you." Pausing for a moment, Ling Chen continued, "There’s one more thing. Help me print out some information on deep hypnosis, I need it later."
Ten minutes later, Ling Chen was holding the data and entered the room where Bai Zhangqiu resided.
"Mr. Ling." Bai Zhangqiu enthusiastically welcomed Ling Chen inside and asked, "What can I do for you?"
"Mr. Bai, take a look at this information first."
Bai Zhangqiu carefully examined the data, word by word. Reaching the end, he couldn’t help but praise, "This idea is excellent. Why didn’t we think of it before?" He looked up at Ling Chen and asked, "Mr. Ling, where did you get this information? If possible, I would like to have a proper exchange with the person who proposed this idea."
"Mr. Bai, I’m afraid you won’t meet that person," Ling Chen said, "I came to ask you about the difference between the effects of deep hypnosis and the Netherworld Snake’s number six reagent."
"To be precise, there’s not much difference between the two. Although the methods differ slightly, the achieved effects are essentially the same—they both aim to alter human memory. However, the deep hypnosis method is not only simpler than the number six reagent, it’s less dangerous too, and the effects are uncompromised. In fact, this method is more convenient than the number six reagent, though the reagent’s effects might be a bit more stable; once memory implantation succeeds, external forces find it hard to alter."
"Then, if deep hypnosis experiments are performed on someone injected with the number six reagent, can their memory be restored?" Ling Chen asked; this was his true concern.
Upon hearing this, Bai Zhangqiu’s eyes instantly lit up, and he nodded immediately, "Shouldn’t be a problem—we can use the deep hypnosis method to evoke her hidden memories, and it’s gentle, it won’t cause harm to the subject’s brain."
"Mr. Bai, I only have this data on deep hypnosis. If you were to undertake this, could you master it in a short period?"
"Absolutely." Bai Zhangqiu said, brimming with confidence, "The information records every step of deep hypnosis in detail. However, to be safe, I can run a few test experiments to ensure no errors."
"Alright." Thanks to Bai Zhangqiu’s assurance, Ling Chen’s sharply defined face finally revealed a hint of a smile.
Once Bai Zhangqiu masters deep hypnosis methods, Nanrong Wanqing and Tang Shiyun will be saved. "Mr. Bai, may I ask, what are your plans for the future?" Ling Chen asked, shifting the conversation.
"Me?" Bai Zhangqiu shook his head and said, "I haven’t thought about it yet. Why do you ask, Mr. Ling?"
"Mr. Bai, you previously worked for the Netherworld Snake. Now, although you’ve broken away from them, you still hold substantial secrets about Netherworld Snake. Given their ways, they likely won’t let you go easily. Even if you escape abroad, you may not be free from them. I have a proposition—why not stay here with me? If you wish to continue your research, I can provide you with the most advanced lab and top talent. Moreover, your family can relocate to East Sea City; I’ll have dedicated personnel to ensure their safety. What do you think?"
"This..." Bai Zhangqiu hadn’t anticipated Ling Chen’s offer to retain him and was momentarily indecisive.
Seeing this, Ling Chen smiled and said, "Mr. Bai, you’re truly talented, and naturally, you aim to fulfill your aspirations. While my resources may not compare to the Netherworld Snake’s, you’ll at least face fewer restrictions here. Of course, it’s just a suggestion; I’m not forcing you—the decision is yours alone."
"It’s my honor that Mr. Ling values me. But, this is so sudden. Could you give me a few days to think it over?"
"No problem!" Ling Chen smiled, rose up and said, "I won’t disturb you anymore. Get some rest."
Upon leaving Bai Zhangqiu, Ling Chen was heading towards his room but stopped when he noticed the lights in the medical room were still on. Curiously, he turned into the medical room. He opened the door and glanced inside, seeing Zhu Xiaozhu clad in a white lab coat, engrossed in the adjoining lab, so absorbed she hadn’t noticed Ling Chen entering.
At the office desk in the medical room, the doctor assisting Zhu Xiaozhu rested his chin on his hand, drooling in his sleep, unaware of how long he’d been resting. Ling Chen approached and gently tapped the doctor’s shoulder, startling him awake. Upon seeing Ling Chen, the doctor’s expression changed slightly, and he swiftly stood from his seat.
"You’re tired—why not rest in your room?"
The doctor glanced at the busy Zhu Xiaozhu in the lab and smiled wryly, "Miss Zhu is still working; how dare I leave."
"How long has she been at it?"
"Almost two days now. Miss Zhu said your time is running out and insisted on quickly developing the antidote. I advised her to rest and avoid exhausting herself, but she refused to listen and worked through day and night, not resting for two days. Mr. Ling, please persuade her."
Ling Chen asked displeased, "Why didn’t you inform me earlier?"
"Miss Zhu forbade me, so I..."
"Enough!" Ling Chen pointed towards the door and said, "Go take a rest first."
"Yes."
Once the doctor left, only Ling Chen and Zhu Xiaozhu remained in the medical room. At the moment, Zhu Xiaozhu still hadn’t noticed Ling Chen in the adjoining room. Though separated by a sheet of glass, Zhu Xiaozhu’s gaze remained fixed on her computer screen.
Ling Chen quietly approached the lab, moving behind Zhu Xiaozhu, gradually closing the gap until only two centimeters separated them. They say focused men are most attractive, but the same holds true for women, particularly for a beauty like Zhu Xiaozhu. Watching her fair profile, Ling Chen felt a sudden impulse in his heart.
