Chapter 14: A Promise Beneath the Moonlight
Silence filled the battlefield.
The battle that had shaken countless realities had finally come to an end.
Fragments of broken dimensions drifted through the endless void like shattered glass.
Distant universes slowly reconstructed themselves.
The scars left upon existence gradually disappeared.
And at the center of it all stood two figures.
One remained standing.
The other knelt before him.
Astraith lowered her gaze.
For the first time in fifteen hundred years, she had been defeated.
Yet strangely-
She didn’t feel disappointed.
She didn’t feel frustrated.
Nor did she feel humiliated.
Instead...
She felt happy.
Genuinely happy.
Because after centuries of searching, she had finally found someone who could stand beside her.
Someone who understood the loneliness hidden behind overwhelming strength.
Someone capable of reaching heights she could only dream of.
Most importantly...
Someone who never looked down on her.
A faint smile appeared on Astraith’s lips.
Vlox approached slowly.
The chaotic energies surrounding the battlefield faded with every step he took.
Soon, he stopped directly in front of her.
Then he extended his hand.
"How was the fight?"
His voice remained calm.
The same calm voice he had maintained throughout the entire battle.
Astraith stared at the offered hand.
For a moment, she simply looked at it.
Then she slowly accepted it.
Warm.
That was the first thing she noticed.
After spending centuries surrounded by power, destruction, and endless solitude...
The warmth of another person’s hand felt strangely comforting.
Vlox gently pulled her to her feet.
Astraith looked away immediately.
Her heart had begun beating much faster than usual.
Which was absurd.
She was a Celestial Dragon.
A being capable of erasing realities and vast multiple multiverses.
Yet somehow standing this close to Vlox made her more nervous than fighting him.
"It was everything I hoped for."
Her voice was quieter than before.
A faint blush appeared on her cheeks.
Then she added honestly,
"Actually... it was even better."
Vlox smiled.
The simple smile somehow made her heart race even faster.
Astraith immediately cursed herself internally.
What was happening to her?
Why was she acting like this?
She had faced cosmic horrors older than creation itself.
Yet one smile from Vlox was enough to leave her completely defenseless.
Several seconds passed.
Neither spoke.
The silence became increasingly awkward.
Astraith could feel her courage slowly disappearing.
If she didn’t say it now-
She might never say it.
After all...
She had already waited fifteen hundred years.
Enough was enough.
Astraith clenched her fists.
Took a deep breath.
Then called his name.
"Vlox."
"Hm?"
The casual response nearly destroyed all the courage she had gathered.
Almost.
Almost.
But not completely.
Her face turned red.
Then redder.
Then somehow even redder.
The mighty Celestial Dragon looked as though she was about to explode.
Finally-
She spoke.
"You’re my husband now."
The words escaped before she could stop them.
The moment she realized what she had said,
Her entire body froze.
Silence.
Complete silence.
Even the surrounding realities seemed shocked.
Astraith’s golden eyes widened.
Her face became completely crimson.
Then panic arrived.
"Idiot."
A light punch landed on Vlox’s shoulder.
"Idiot."
Another one.
"Idiot."
Punch.
"Idiot."
Punch.
"Idiot."
Punch.
"Idiot."
Punch.
"Idiot."
Punch.
The attacks carried absolutely no power behind them.
For someone who could shatter realities with a thought, they felt less dangerous than a gentle tap.
Vlox simply stood there while watching the embarrassed dragon completely lose control of herself.
"You really said it."
Astraith immediately covered her face.
"I know!"
"Very confidently too."
"I KNOW!"
"Several realities probably heard it."
"I SAID I KNOW!"
The Celestial Dragon looked as though she wished reality would erase her from existence.
Then something unexpected happened.
Vlox laughed.
Not mockingly.
Not cruelly.
A genuine laugh.
Warm.
Relaxed.
Honest.
Astraith slowly lowered her hands.
For a moment, she simply stared at him.
Then she found herself smiling too.
A small smile.
A genuine one.
Perhaps the first truly carefree smile she had shown in centuries.
The embarrassment remained.
But strangely-
She didn’t regret saying it.
Not even slightly.
Then Vlox looked directly into her eyes.
His expression became gentler.
"Then I suppose that makes me your husband."
The moment those words entered her ears-
Astraith’s brain stopped functioning.
Completely.
Absolutely.
Entirely.
The mighty Celestial Dragon stared blankly.
Her face became even redder.
A feat that should have been impossible.
Then-
She fainted.
Vlox caught her before she hit the ground.
"...Seriously?"
He looked down at the unconscious dragon.
A helpless smile appeared on his face.
Even while unconscious, Astraith’s cheeks remained bright red.
Vlox shook his head.
Then gently lifted her into his arms.
The strongest dragon he had ever met.
A being capable of shaking infinite realities and vast multiple multiverses.
Currently unconscious because of embarrassment.
The situation was surprisingly amusing.
With Astraith resting peacefully in his arms, Vlox glanced toward the endless void surrounding them.
The battle was over.
There was no reason to remain here.
He slowly raised one hand.
Space folded instantly.
Reality bent.
Dimensions opened.
A path appeared before him.
Without hesitation, Vlox stepped forward.
The surrounding scenery changed immediately.
The endless battlefield disappeared.
The broken dimensions vanished.
The shattered universes faded away.
Moments later-
Black Mountain Cave appeared once more.
The cave remained exactly where they had left it.
Silent.
Ancient.
Lonely.
Vlox looked around.
Then looked down at Astraith.
A thought crossed his mind.
"This place could use some improvements."
The next moment-
Reality obeyed.
The cave began transforming.
Ancient stone walls became polished marble.
Dark tunnels widened into magnificent hallways.
Crystal chandeliers appeared overhead.
Golden decorations covered the walls.
Beautiful furniture materialized from thin air.
Massive windows formed where solid rock had once existed.
Moonlight poured into the newly created structure.
Within seconds, the lonely cave had become something entirely different.
A luxurious castle hidden within Black Mountain.
A place worthy of a Celestial Dragon.
And perhaps...
A future home.
Vlox walked through the silent corridors.
Eventually, he entered the largest room within the castle.
A magnificent bedroom awaited.
The room overlooked endless mountain ranges through enormous crystal windows.
Silver moonlight illuminated everything inside.
The atmosphere felt peaceful.
Calm.
Comfortable.
Vlox approached the bed and carefully laid Astraith down.
His movements were surprisingly gentle.
The Celestial Dragon shifted slightly in her sleep.
Then relaxed.
A faint smile appeared on her face.
Even unconscious, she looked happy.
Vlox sat beside the bed for a moment.
The room became quiet.
Outside, the moon hung high above the mountains.
Stars illuminated the night sky.
For several minutes, Vlox simply watched the peaceful scenery.
Then his gaze returned to Astraith.
The dragon who had spent fifteen centuries searching.
The woman who had challenged him despite knowing she couldn’t win.
The warrior who had smiled even in defeat.
And the person who had somehow managed to make him feel less alone.
A faint smile appeared on Vlox’s face.
For the first time since arriving in this world-
He felt something unfamiliar.
Not power.
Not curiosity.
Not responsibility.
Something far simpler.
Belonging.
Outside the castle, the night continued peacefully.
The stars shined brightly.
The mountains stood silent.
And within the luxurious room hidden deep inside Black Mountain-
A Celestial Dragon slept peacefully with a smile on her face.
While beside her sat the only person she had searched fifteen hundred years to find.
The future remained uncertain.
Countless adventures still awaited them.
Powerful enemies still existed.
Mysteries remained unsolved.
Yet for this one quiet night-
None of those things mattered.
Because after centuries of loneliness...
Neither of them was alone anymore.
