The Being Who Existed Before the Omniverse

Chapter 49: The Most Beautiful Day Beneath the Endless Sky

Sponsored

The night passed peacefully.

The stars slowly faded.

Darkness retreated.

And eventually-

Morning arrived once again.

Golden sunlight spread across the world.

The forests surrounding Black Mountain swayed gently beneath the breeze.

Birds flew through the clear sky.

The rivers sparkled like liquid crystal beneath the radiance of dawn.

Far away, valleys awakened beneath blankets of mist.

Mountains stood proudly beneath the heavens.

The world itself seemed to breathe.

Everything felt calm.

Everything felt alive.

And inside the castle-

Astraith was sleeping.

Again.

At this point, Vlox was beginning to suspect that dragons spent ninety percent of their existence asleep.

The silver-haired dragon lay sprawled across the enormous bed.

Three blankets had somehow ended up on the floor.

One pillow rested near the window.

Another had mysteriously disappeared entirely.

Meanwhile-

Astraith occupied almost the entire bed by herself.

One leg hung over the edge.

Her silver hair had become a chaotic mess during the night.

And despite all of this-

She somehow looked completely comfortable.

Vlox stood nearby with folded arms.

Observing.

Judging.

Questioning reality.

The castle possessed hundreds of bedrooms.

Entire wings that remained unused.

Yet somehow-

Every morning ended exactly the same way.

No matter where he slept.

No matter what room he chose.

No matter what precautions he took.

Astraith would inevitably appear.

Then somehow claim ownership of the entire bed.

The process remained a mystery.

Even to the creator of the Omniverse.

Eventually, Astraith slowly opened one eye.

She noticed Vlox.

Then immediately smiled.

A bright smile.

A warm smile.

The kind of smile capable of melting glaciers.

"Good morning."

"You stole the entire bed."

"I was protecting it."

"From what?"

Astraith thought for a moment.

Then pointed dramatically.

"Potential invaders."

"There are no invaders."

"There could have been."

"Astraith."

"Yes?"

"You are the invader."

The dragon blinked.

Then nodded thoughtfully.

"Fair point."

Vlox laughed.

The dragon smiled proudly.

As if she had somehow won the argument.

Which, somehow-

She always did.

After breakfast-

A breakfast large enough to terrify ordinary humans-

The two left Black Mountain once again.

No destination.

No plans.

Just another peaceful day together.

The weather was perfect.

The sky remained cloudless.

Warm sunlight illuminated the land.

The grass swayed gently beneath the breeze.

Flowers bloomed beside forgotten roads.

Streams flowed peacefully through the countryside.

Everything felt strangely vibrant.

As though the world itself had finally relaxed.

For centuries-

Wars had scarred countless lands.

Entire kingdoms had burned.

Civilizations had fallen.

Heroes had risen and disappeared.

But now-

The wounds were healing.

Life was returning.

And for perhaps the first time in a very long while-

The future seemed bright.

Astraith happily walked beside Vlox.

Holding his hand.

Occasionally swinging their joined hands back and forth.

Like an excited child discovering the world for the first time.

At one point-

She began humming.

A soft melody.

Something she had probably invented on the spot.

At another-

She started collecting flowers.

Then-

She attempted to place flowers in Vlox’s hair.

The creator of the Omniverse stared at her.

Astraith stared back.

"..."

"..."

"...Why?"

"Because it looks cute."

Vlox sighed.

The dragon immediately placed another flower behind his ear.

Then stepped back.

Examining her work with the seriousness of a master artist.

A few moments later-

She nodded proudly.

"Perfect."

Vlox looked completely unconvinced.

Astraith looked completely convinced.

The disagreement remained unresolved.

Several hours later-

The two reached a vast field.

Countless flowers stretched toward the horizon.

Red.

Blue.

White.

Gold.

Purple.

Pink.

Every color imaginable painted the landscape.

The sight was breathtaking.

A sea of flowers dancing beneath the sunlight.

Even Vlox paused for a moment.

Astraith’s eyes widened.

"It’s beautiful."

"It is."

The dragon immediately ran into the field.

Without hesitation.

Without dignity.

Without any concern whatsoever.

The flowers parted around her like waves.

Silver hair fluttered behind her.

Laughter echoed across the open plains.

Bright.

Carefree laughter.

The kind he hadn’t heard during the war.

The kind he wished he could hear forever.

For a moment-

Vlox simply watched.

The woman running through the flowers.

The woman who had once stood fearlessly before armies.

The woman who had challenged monsters capable of destroying worlds.

The woman who now looked happier than ever because she had discovered an unusually large flower.

A small smile appeared on his face.

Eventually-

Astraith returned.

Holding a flower crown.

Vlox immediately knew trouble was coming.

And unfortunately-

He was correct.

"Astraith."

"Yes?"

"No."

"You don’t even know what I’m going to say."

"Yes I do."

The dragon smiled mischievously.

Then placed the flower crown on his head.

Silence followed.

Astraith stared.

Vlox stared.

The flowers stared.

The universe probably stared.

Then Astraith suddenly covered her mouth.

Trying very hard not to laugh.

Unfortunately-

She failed.

Completely.

The dragon burst into laughter.

Vlox sighed.

"Astraith."

"You actually wore it."

"You put it on my head."

"And you didn’t stop me."

Vlox had no defense.

Because she was right.

The dragon eventually calmed down.

Then looked at him.

And smiled.

A soft smile.

A genuine one.

"You know..."

"Hm?"

"You’re really handsome."

For the first time all day-

Vlox looked surprised.

Astraith’s cheeks immediately became pink.

But she didn’t look away.

Instead-

She continued smiling.

And somehow-

That simple moment felt more valuable than any treasure in existence.

The wind blew gently through the field.

Flowers swayed around them.

Time itself seemed to slow.

Neither rushed to speak.

Neither felt the need to.

The silence wasn’t empty.

It was comfortable.

Peaceful.

The kind of silence that only existed between two people who truly understood one another.

Later that afternoon-

The two reached a small village.

Thin trails of smoke rose from stone chimneys.

Children played near wooden fences.

Farmers worked in nearby fields.

The scent of fresh bread drifted through the air.

It was a simple place.

An ordinary place.

The sort of place most legends never noticed.

Yet somehow-

It felt more precious than many kingdoms.

The villagers immediately recognized them.

But unlike before-

Nobody treated them like distant legends.

Nobody looked afraid.

Nobody knelt.

Nobody worshipped them.

Instead-

People smiled.

Children waved.

Several villagers greeted them warmly.

The atmosphere felt comfortable.

Natural.

Human.

Astraith seemed to enjoy it.

Especially when an elderly woman offered her homemade pastries.

The dragon accepted immediately.

Without hesitation.

Without shame.

Without even pretending to refuse first.

Several minutes later-

Astraith was eating pastries.

Again.

Vlox wasn’t surprised.

The elderly woman laughed.

"She really likes sweets."

Vlox nodded.

"You have no idea."

Astraith continued eating.

Completely unbothered.

One pastry disappeared.

Then another.

Then another.

The villagers watched in amazement.

A little girl whispered-

"Where does all that food go?"

"Magic."

Astraith answered instantly.

The child gasped.

The adults laughed.

And for a little while-

The village square became filled with smiles.

As evening approached-

The villagers invited them to stay for a celebration.

Nothing grand.

Nothing extravagant.

Just a small gathering.

A peaceful evening shared among friends.

The village square soon filled with people.

Tables were arranged.

Lanterns illuminated the streets.

Food was prepared.

Music began playing.

The atmosphere felt warm.

Comfortable.

Human.

And strangely-

Vlox found himself enjoying it.

Astraith certainly was.

Mostly because the tables contained food.

A lot of food.

Roasted chicken.

Fresh bread.

Vegetable stew.

Honey cakes.

Berry pies.

Fruit juice.

Sweet pastries.

The dragon’s eyes sparkled.

The villagers noticed.

Several laughed.

One little boy whispered-

"She’s definitely going to eat all of that."

The prediction proved surprisingly accurate.

Hours passed.

People talked.

Laughed.

Shared stories.

Children played games.

Musicians performed songs.

Old friends reunited.

Families sat together.

The celebration wasn’t magnificent.

It wasn’t historic.

No great legends would ever be written about it.

Yet somehow-

That made it even more beautiful.

Because this was what peace looked like.

Not glorious victories.

Not triumphant heroes.

Not monuments built from stone.

Just people living.

People smiling.

People existing without fear.

The very thing countless lives had been sacrificed to protect.

And for the first time in a long time-

Vlox felt completely at peace.

No responsibilities.

No enemies.

No threats.

Just life.

Simple life.

The very thing they had fought to protect.

Eventually-

The celebration began winding down.

People slowly returned home.

The music faded.

The laughter softened.

The village became quieter.

Only a few lanterns remained illuminated.

The streets grew calm.

The stars emerged above.

Countless lights scattered across the endless darkness.

Astraith and Vlox sat together on a hill overlooking the village.

Watching the night sky.

The dragon leaned against his shoulder.

A comfortable silence settled between them.

Below-

The village rested peacefully.

Above-

The stars shone endlessly.

For a long while-

Neither spoke.

Then she quietly spoke.

"Vlox."

"Yes?"

"Do you know why this is my favorite day?"

Vlox thought for a moment.

"Because of the food?"

Astraith immediately laughed.

"That too."

"I knew it."

The dragon smiled.

Then looked up at the stars.

Her voice became softer.

"But that’s not the real reason."

Vlox listened.

Astraith gently squeezed his hand.

"The war is over."

Silence followed.

The dragon continued.

"For so long, it felt like there was always another battle waiting."

"Another enemy."

"Another responsibility."

"Another crisis."

Her golden eyes reflected the stars.

"But now..."

A smile appeared on her face.

A peaceful smile.

The kind that came from the heart.

"I can finally live with you."

The simple words carried incredible weight.

Because she was right.

For centuries-

Her life had been shaped by conflict.

By duty.

By sacrifice.

She had witnessed countless tragedies.

Seen worlds burn.

Watched civilizations rise and fall.

Faced enemies capable of shaking existence itself.

There had always been another battle.

Another burden.

Another reason to keep moving forward.

Yet now-

For the first time in a very long time-

Astraith could simply exist.

Together with Vlox.

Nothing more.

Nothing less.

Vlox looked toward Astraith.

The moonlight illuminated her silver hair.

The stars reflected in her eyes.

And once again-

He found himself thinking the same thing he always did.

That no matter how many universes existed...

No matter how many stars filled the sky...

No matter how many wonders creation contained...

Nothing was more beautiful than the woman beside him.

Astraith eventually noticed him staring.

Her face immediately turned red.

Again.

"Aren’t you tired of doing that?"

"No."

The dragon covered her face.

Vlox laughed softly.

Astraith groaned.

Then leaned closer to him.

And remained there.

Neither spoke.

Words weren’t necessary.

The stars continued shining above.

The village rested peacefully below.

The wind drifted softly through the night.

Far away-

Crickets sang their endless songs.

Lanterns flickered gently in the darkness.

The world felt quiet.

Safe.

Whole.

And for the first time in what felt like forever-

There was no tomorrow Astraith needed to fear.

Only a tomorrow Astraith could look forward to.

A future built not upon war.

But happiness.

Not upon sacrifice.

But life.

The kind of future Astraith had dreamed of during countless battles.

The kind of future Astraith had nearly died protecting.

And now-

At last-

It belonged to her..

Astraith slowly closed her eyes.

A small smile remained on her face.

Vlox wrapped an arm around her shoulders.

The dragon immediately moved even closer.

Predictably.

Comfortably.

As though that was where she belonged.

Perhaps it was.

The moon continued its journey across the heavens.

The stars remained eternal witnesses.

And beneath their gentle light-

Two souls who had survived countless storms simply sat together.

Enjoying the peace they had earned.

Enjoying the happiness they deserved.

Enjoying the most beautiful day.

And for a little while-

The world felt perfect.
