Chapter 534 - 58: It’s Finally My Turn, Let’s Get a Little Tactical
Jessica Alba arrived in Dallas.
The last time, she had stormed out of Miami in a huff. She felt utterly humiliated because she believed Su Xi had stood her up to go on a date with Scarlett.
But Su Xi didn’t coddle her in the slightest, nor did he bother with sweet talk.
Su Xi wasn’t the kind of man to let a woman turn his life upside down.
So, Jessica came to find Su Xi in person.
Su Xi gave her an opportunity and told her his room number.
Jessica then came over to offer a sincere apology. She put in a great deal of effort; of course, she was also operating on a "revenge" principle, determined to more than make up for what she had missed in Miami.
However, she had her limits. Su Xi did not.
Her eagerness backfired. She was soon overwhelmed by Su Xi’s even more powerful counter-assault, leaving her completely undone.
When she finally surrendered, she was a boneless heap.
Su Xi couldn’t resist lecturing her. "Why bother? You shouldn’t bite off more than you can chew. You need to learn how to share. Don’t always get jealous—it’s not good for you."
Su Xi said, "I’m playing two games here in Dallas. Think carefully about whether I’m right or not."
Su Xi always had a way of making his lessons enjoyable, using practical action to show them what they ought to do.
After all, this was a man with a magic wand.
...
Eddie Curry didn’t have a magic wand, but he was finally making his comeback, and he was thrilled.
He was filled with excitement for the upcoming game; he could finally participate in the Finals.
However, before the game, Su Xi told him, "You’ll come off the bench to start. We’ll bring you in if the situation calls for it."
Eddie Curry wasn’t emotionally down about it. After all, the Knicks had been winning, and putting him on the court suddenly could potentially disrupt their chemistry.
The Finals atmosphere in Dallas was intense. The fans were thrilled about the team’s first-ever trip to the Finals, and the entire city was steeped in the excitement.
By the time they entered the American Airlines Center Arena, over 20,000 people were already roaring for the Mavericks. Even though they had suffered two straight losses on the road, the Texas fans were confident their team would take care of business in the next two home games.
When the Knicks players took the court, they were met with a storm of boos and curses.
Especially when Su Xi was introduced, the boos from the crowd were like a tidal wave.
Texas really lived up to its reputation as the United States’ warrior clan.
But Su Xi didn’t care. In fact, he almost wanted to laugh.
’After all, he’d been through Auburn Hills in Detroit. Could these rednecks’ insults be any fouler than those of the blue-collar workers in Detroit?’
TWEET!
The whistle blew, and the game began.
The Knicks’ starting lineup tonight remained the same: Su Xi, Crawford, Ariza, Tony Battie, and Jerome James.
The Mavericks also hadn’t changed their starting lineup.
Little General Johnson seemed to be in pretty good spirits today.
That was because he hadn’t stayed up all night studying the Knicks’ tactics. It was useless, anyway. They were pure freestyle on the court. However Su Xi wanted to play, his teammates seamlessly adapted to play along with him, their chemistry as smooth as silk.
So, what was the point of studying them?
Little General Johnson was finally getting a taste of what it was like to be Isaiah Thomas. ’What a joy,’ he thought.
But he was only experiencing the tip of the iceberg.
He couldn’t possibly imagine the true joy Isaiah felt.
The most Little General could do was skip pre-game preparation. He couldn’t be like Isaiah Thomas, who did no prep whatsoever, as carefree as a wandering cloud.
Isaiah Thomas stood on the sideline, looking refreshed and full of vigor.
He was very pleased with his outfit today: a custom Armani suit, a Hermès belt, and a pair of handmade leather shoes, all paired with his rainbow socks.
’What a tasteful middle-aged Black man I am.’
At this thought, he couldn’t help but slightly hitch up his suit trousers.
Still not quite satisfied, he sat down on the bench and crossed his legs, showing off his socks.
Tsk, tsk.
He admired his own taste.
’No wonder they say you can’t judge a man’s taste by his suit and belt—you have to look at his socks.’
’A man like me, with a somber exterior but a rich inner world, truly deserves the adoration of the 1.3 billion young women across the globe.’
Thomas thought to himself.
Just then, a voice piped up beside him out of nowhere. "Isaiah, did your preferences change? My gay friends tell me that rainbow socks like yours are the hottest thing in their community right now."
It was Zach Randolph’s voice.
Coming from Randolph, that was an authoritative statement.
He was the Knicks’ resident fashionista, and as everyone knew, the fashion world was full of gay men.
Huh?
Thomas quickly uncrossed his legs. "Is that really a thing?" he asked.
"You better watch your back. I’m telling you, gay guys love old dudes like you. All saggy and easy to... break in."
"You..."
Goosebumps broke out on Isaiah Thomas’s arms. He subconsciously rubbed them and then quickly shot to his feet.
To distract himself, he even started yelling at the court. "Hey, fellas, run with more energy! Get on them, don’t be afraid of contact! Give them a taste of New York toughness...!"
Watching Thomas yelling on the sideline, Little General was stunned for a moment. ’Did I just force out Isaiah Thomas’s final form? The score is only 5-0!’
The Mavericks came out swinging tonight, immediately landing a blow on the Knicks.
First, Dampier won the opening tip-off.
Then, Josh Howard decisively drained a 3-pointer from beyond the arc.
Subsequently, Su Xi passed to Tony Battie for a jump shot, but it missed.
